The home, the location was wonderful! We really enjoyed our stay. Though we are older folks, the only dining room table was a high top. We always dine together and it was a little difficult for some of us to climb onto the chairs.Everything was great otherwise! So much room and very comfortable. Beautiful views and freat location close to town yet still surrounded by trees and lake front.
This was our third time vacationing in this beautiful home. We enjoy the large living area and updated kitchen. The fishing was great and we love the private beach and dock. Great place for large families to gather and make memories to cherish!
We all loved our week at this lovely home on Little Birch Lake. It felt very private. We enjoyed the sandy beach and swimming area, and in the evening enjoyed fires at the fire pit down on the beach. When not in the boat, we caught fish right off the dock and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets! This was one of our favorite destinations on Birch Lake!
This property is well placed right on the edge of Hackensack, so that enjoying the town amenities was easy. It is also well placed on the beautiful clear waters of Birch Lake. My family and I really enjoyed the home.
There were 11 of us and we never felt crowded, lots of inside and outside space. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. The communication with the owner was great. Everything was wonderful, we will be back!
We had a family reunion with 7 adults & 7 kids and loved the location! The bike trail is so close & we were able to bike to town for ice cream everyday. The place feels very private and perfect for young swimmers as it is shallow & sandy. We all found places to sleep & the kitchen fully stocked for all our cooking needs. Michelle responded quickly to questions and we made so many beautiful memories here! A few things my relatives think could make the VRBO even better would be keeping the broom/dust bin in a handier location for guests & reminding the cleaner to empty the vacuum. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful spot with us!
Our group had a good time fishing and enjoyed the large house, the only negative was the few chairs in the dining and living room offered limited seating. The bedrooms and the kitchen was well stocked with all that was needed. We would definitely rent it again.
Location is terrific - right on the lake, close to town for ice cream, tennis, pickle ball, and also to state trails for walking and biking. The house is well-equipped, everything you need in the kitchen, tons of sheets, towels, blankets, and lots of windows for light and views of the kids playing on the beach. There’s a nice dock for fishing - lots of sunnies and bass. It’s feels very secluded and private.
Booking this property was such a wonderful experience. It easily fit 11 people and did not feel over crowded. The area surrounding had many great places to go within walking distance if needed. Highly recommend the brewery downtown by the lake. The lake itself was beautiful! The beach on the property is a perfect spot with shallow clear water. One side of the lake is super shallow and the other side is about 30ft deep and was awesome for surfing. 10/10 would recommend!

Great outdoors, not so great indoors
We loved the lake and outdoor amenities. This was the highlight for our group of 8, and the only reason for this higher rating. The house was not clean, we left it cleaner than it was when we arrived. Garbage left throughout the house, including receipts from over six months ago. The main bedrooms do not have doors (there are curtains), which isn't terrible, but may be noisy if folks are early risers or night owls in your group. Lower level is completely unused, aside from a bathroom, which seemed a bit awkward given the large amount of space.

Thank you for your feedback, I am surprised to hear about the cleanliness of the home as we were the guests prior to your stay and cleaned the home thoroughly. The only place I can think that would have a receipt was in the garage. The lower level is an unfinished space as we have plans to completely redo this space and is not necessary as the main level is so large. The cleaner did state the home was very clean so thank you for taking care of our home during your stay.

Previous Guests Provide Cleaning for Next Guests
Maybe we missed it in the original listing, but an email from the owner the day of our arrival indicated that the listing included no cleaning fee. Guests are expected to clean before departing in preparation for the next guests. When we arrived, the house was certainly not clean. The second day of our stay we found 2 plates in the middle of the stack in the kitchen cabinet that had about 1/8th inch of some type of filthy liquid standing on them. We found dirty towels hanging by one of the showers along with used bar soap in the shower.
All of the showers were filthy. The trash had been taken out, but nobody bothered sweeping the floors since we found food on them, including in rooms where there were signs asking that no food or drink be brought into the room. We absolutely left the house in better condition than we found it.
Access to the Paul Bunyan trail was excellent. The dock was nice. The "beach" was down a fairly steep hill from the house and was a minefield of goose droppings. There was a brand new gas grill, but no propane tank, and there was a charcoal grill.

Hi John, I am very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. And very surprised the home was not clean - we have never had someone complain about the cleaner previously - I will definately reach out and see what happend! The home was reported to be left in good condition - so thank you for that. We know the hill is a bit steep - we do intend to install stairs this upcoming year to ease the transition down the hill. We have done some research on how to keep the geese of the lawn - so far it has seemed to keep them away. Just a side note - anytime anyone asks if there is a "beach" we state there is a sandy area for kids to play however to hold the integrity of the lake shore and follow the lake association rules we do not have the sand going all the way into the water. I hope you find a wonderful vacation home to stay during your next adventure.
*** Stairs have since been installed for any easier trip down to the lake.
Me and my family enjoyed staying here!! The house was clean and was supplied well with whatever we needed. The garage had so many things in it to use. The sand, beach, and lake was awesome! Close to the Paul Bunyan Trail for bike riding was great also! I would highly recommend!
The house provided a nice base for our family lake vacation in Hackensack. The house is a bit dated which was fine for us. One concern (which could be a deal breaker for some) is the lack of doors on bedrooms, including the master. It feels strange to have only curtains separating living space from bedroom/bathroom/shower. The new stairs, dock, and lake access were wonderful as was the location close to downtown.
We loved our stay in Hackensack. The location of the property was walking/biking distance to town - perfect! The sandy beach, no weeds, plenty of space for the water toys. The house was spacious for our group of 8. The kitchen was fully stocked - wonderful. Only complaint is that the floors weren't very clean when we got there but we vacuumed and swept and it was all fine. The property manager was also very attentive.
Good experience renting this property. Owners were easy to get ahold about a couple of questions/issues and provided excellent support.

Enough space for a large family
Pros:
Large house to accommodate a big family.
Nice swimming area/beach.
Life jackets, tubes, grills, bikes, etc. provided. (never got grill to work however)
Cons:
Not enough supplies provided - (4 garbage bags total for 5 days & 14 people, hand soaps old and less than half full, kitchen soap under 1/4 full)
House was fairly dirty upon arrival (food on dishes in cupboards, lots of dog hair even though pets were not allowed) we spend time doing dishes and cleaning before unloading our stuff.
We were never able to get the TV's to work and host wasn't helpful in getting them working for us.
Some of the deck had loose railings and a rotten board that can be unsafe for children.

Thank you for the feedback. There was a full box of garbage bags under the sink. I had assumed you found them when you didn't respond after I let you know where to find them. We do understand you wanted to bring a pet to the home but we find that with the amazing outside area many guests do not clean up the yard messes and the home experiences much more wear and tare and this has a negative affect on others stay, with such an large outside space I would not be able to ensure all messes are cleaned up. The guests previous to you did not abide by this rule and they were appropriately reported. The home was professional cleaned prior to your stay, I apologize for the missed dog hair on the wheels of the TV stand (as you stated when you reached out to me) and if any previous guest put away dishes that had food still stuck on them after running them through the dishwasher. When you reached out about the TV - I explained that you have cable options or chromecast and you needed to change the input depending on which source you wanted to use, since I did not hear back from you, I assumed that had worked and did not know there was additional issues. The next guests did not report any issues with the TV. When you reported that the dishwasher didn't work, and I walked you through where the on button was - I again didn't hear back from you, so assumed you found the on button. We have had the deck railing system on the schedule to be replaced since last year, however every contractor has been extremely backed up with projects to complete. Thankfully it was finally our turn and the entire railing system was replaced July 16th - unfortunately a couple of weeks after your stay. Again, thank you for your feedback.
The property was just right for our group of 6 adults and 8 kids. Walk in access to the water, nice beach and a great dock for fishing. The owner was extremely responsive and the house was well kept and furnished. Highly recommended..
