Helen has done a marvelous job of remodeling a nice country Croft house, and converting it to a modern, well-equipped, and comfortable guest accommodation. This is a rare find. The house has absolutely everything needed for an enjoyable and carefree stay, and it’s perfectly situated for exploring Lewis and Harris. Helen is the ideal hostess, and she definitely has her holiday rental property in top form.
For my daughter and I, this house was the height of luxury. We each had our own bedroom, allowing some alone time. We each had our own couch in the living room to crash on after a busy day exploring the island. The kitchen was stocked with every possible cooking tool. The croft was centrally located to head out in all directions for sightseeing. I highly recommend Meadowcroft for families, friends or couples.
Host, Helen, met us at the cottage in Lacasaigh. Perfect location., and very peaceful after busy days touring the islands. Would recommend to friends considering visiting the Outer Hebrides.
We have stayed in a number of VRBO listed properties all over the world and we both agree this was the best overall. It is a great combination of being very attractive, but also extremely comfortable. The furnishings and design were well planned so that everything functioned well. We expecially appreciated the availability of the operation manuals for alll the appliances so that we could make good use of them - the lack of these has made it difficult in other rental accommodations. Helen was a wonderful host who provided us with a through introduction to the property, but also was available for any inquiries we had during our stay. We are home now, but are still reflecting on how much we enjoyed our stay! Thank you so much, Helen!
Helen is a wonderful host who delivers a very personal touch. Unfortunately myself and my husband could not go on our trip but my parents went instead. Communication with Helen was great and was lovely to speak to Helen on the phone. My parents had a wonderful trip, the cottage was spotless and beautiful. I shall be booking to stay with Helen again in the future. And my parents would not hesitate to return to the cottage.
We were met by the owner Helen on arrival. A most charming lady. She gave us a guided tour of the accommodation and left us many complimentary items which were lovely. The accommodation really was 5 Star and had everything we needed for our stay. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone and can guarantee they will have a great stay.
We stayed for 4 nights as part of our tour of the Hebrides. Such a well appointed house, immaculately clean. Plenty of space for a family of four. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. Excellent location for exploring all the sights of the island. Easy to find and not too far from the shops in Stornoway. The welcome basket was a really nice touch. We highly recommend!
Helen’s property was stunning. Extremely clean, lots of space, showers were great, beds very comfortable and a good range of kitchen utensils. The property is situated in a great part of Lewis which enables visitors to easily travel around Lewis and Harris.
We were pampered by our hostess. She helped us with maps for hiking. She packed a hamper of the best local foods. And a TV to watch the FIFA World Cup. We stayed 5 nights and wished we could stay longer. Everything was clean and modern.
Meadowcroft was the perfect home away from home, and our base to explore Lewis and Harris. Thanks to its location, it was easy to reach all the key sightings the isles have to offer within an hour.
The house is exquisitely furnished and very well equipped. The standards and qualities Helen chose for the property are superb, and satisfied our tastes and needs.
Whether you're looking for a retreat where you'll be comfortable spending the bulk of your vacation inside, or a base for your exploration of Lewis and Harris, Meadowcroft is an excellent choice!

Beautifully refurbished traditional cottage
Meadowcroft Cottage has been refurbished by the Mackenzies to an exceptional standard. It has been thoughtfully equipped and is cosy, comfortable and beautiful. We had taken our own maps, but the maps of the area provided in the house by our host were much more detailed and came in very handy for our exploration of Lewis and Harris. The information leaflets were likewise extremely useful. We also liked the additional touch of providing a basket of locally produced foods. Helen Mackenzie is a gracious, friendly and helpful host, it was a pleasure to meet her. The house and our host deserve 6 stars!
Lacasaigh was an excellent location for us - not far from Stornoway and central for our drives to the mountains, beaches, archeological sites and eagle country.
We didn’t want to leave.
