Another fantastic stay for our family. Eagles, Osprey, & Loons, on the lake to keep you entertained. Felt emersed in the northwoods for much needed R&R. Fantastic hosts and a property that has everything set for a comfy, cozy stay. Many amazing memories made!
Another amazing trip to The North 40! Everything was perfect as usual. This cabin is our happy place! We can’t wait for our next visit. Beautiful spot, lovely, comfortable cabin and an excellent host!
Another amazing stay at The North 40! What a beautiful time of year - the weather was perfect, and the cabin delivered as always. Clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Enjoyed early morning fires in the kitchen with coffee, hiking to town and all the wonderful close by supper clubs! Did a wonderful day trip to the Porcupine Mountains which can’t be beat during the Fall season. Our host, Carol, was amazing as always. Truly heaven on earth!
A stunningly beautiful location with a gracious and responsive host! We could not ask for more. This is a fabulous place to slow down, relax, enjoy nature and truly treasure the family you love.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our second annual Northwoods vacation. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and cozy. We enjoyed finishing from the canoe and kayaks. I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
We love everything about this cottage: the wood floors, the piano, the vintage bathroom tile, the loons, the fireplace, the quiet lake, and the screened in porch. There's something about this cottage that makes our family put down our phones, read, play games, listen to records, tell stories, laugh, and remember what is important.
This property is very well-loved and well-maintained by the family. We have stayed here many times and each year we see improvements made. The lake is very quiet - too small for large motorboat activities. It's an idyllic location for a quiet getaway with family or friends with plenty of room for all. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything needed for cooking.
This was our third visit and each year has been outstanding! The cabin is clean, well appointed and has a large screened porch which is lovely. The location is convenient to everything you need; gas, groceries, restaurants, casino, bike paths, etc. We particularly love the kitchen fireplace that we light on cold Northwoods mornings.
The lot is very private and the lake is on the quieter side despite being a full rec lake. Fishing is great too! We can’t wait to return again!!!
Another perfect week at The North 40! Beautiful vintage cabin in a beautiful setting and a great location convenient to everything you need and area attractions. Our host was and has always been wonderful and responsive to any inquiries.
We can’t wait to return next year!!! The cabin has everything you need and the screened in porch is a favorite place to relax. The owner recently upgraded the internet service which was excellent. An overall wonderful experience!
The property was way better then expected! It is clean, functional and has everything we needed and more.
It was spacious and oh so relaxing. We all truly enjoyed this trip! We had fun swimming, fishing, kayaking and biking. The books, puzzles and games were perfect entertainment while we cooked and before we started the bonfire.
It was amazing and peaceful to see all the wildlife. This is our first vacation where we only left the premises to shop for food. Normally we go exploring, but there were so many things to do and explore at the cabin, that we never left.
We absolutely loved the north 40. It is like stepping back in time. The cabin and grounds are so well cared for and the cabin has everything you need. We spent our days swimming, reading, playing games, and enjoying nature. The water toys were all used and we also brought a couple of paddle boards. Caught some Northern and Crappie. The teens loved the bunk house. We loved it so much we already booked for next year! Thank you for a blessed week of rest and relaxation. Unplugging and enjoying the beautiful surroundings were just what we needed.
This is our second year to the cabin and we loved every minute. The owners are so responsive and kind. The cabin is big enough without being too big. We love the retro and quaint feel. If you want all modern, new amenities, this cabin may not be for you, but we absolutely love it. The cabin has everything you need and nothing you don't. The new dock was an added bonus this year! Quiet and secluded, we clocked out of our busy schedules for a week and enjoyed the cabin and lake. We brought 2 stand up paddleboards which were really fun. Weather was perfect with a mix of cool/warm and sun/rain. We can't wait until our next visit! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us!
We had a great stay in the Northwoods. Carol Johnson is an excellent hostess, readily available to answer any questions. The cabin is fun in that it has the original garbage disposal and window cranks which takes you back to the 60's. We built a fire in the fireplace in the kitchen since the first few days were cool and rainy. If we weren't busy exploring the area by biking or canoeing, we played board games or read a book from their excellent library. Also, there is plenty of water sports' equipment to enjoy the lake. The guest cabin was a big hit offering privacy and a great view of the lake to the adult kids and their families. Beds were very comfortable. Only recommendation we have is bring any herbs or spices you may need. Great stay, would highly recommend this gem!
We brought our family back for another stay & so glad we did. Cozy, comfy and everything we could need, with adult kids, having the boathouse apartment let's everyone spread out nicely.
Loved having extra amenities like beach towels and a laundry line, we were in the lake almost every day! Falling esleep by loon call and waking up by it too, even to Eagle calls right over the cabin everyone slept so good! Great linens & bedding. Used the fans provided for one night but summer lake breezes took care of us the rest of the days and nights.
Saw Ospray swoop down catching fish while on the lake in beach floats (provided) was pure bliss. Everyone loved going out on kayaks too! We brought our own hammocks and napped in the trees, lakeside. Also had plenty of campfires (wood provided) and grilling out on the charcoal grill, we definately checked everything off our Northwoods Summertime bucket list. We definately did not miss having a TV either! Thanks for sharing your wonderful family friendly cabin!
My family and I had a fantastic stay! The main house and guest house were clean, well stocked, and incredibly comfortable. The nearby area was great as well. Would highly recommend for a family vacation.
This was our family's 3rd annual summer stay & somehow it was even better than before. This is such a great property, near town but yet quietly tucked away. The resident loons literally greeted us at the pier upon arrival and entertained us all week. Along with the Eagle and Osprey. Not to mention the plentiful pan fish at the pier!
We loved the new mattresses & the addition of Starlink wifi . It cooperated nicely even with the remote location, not that we used it much. The screened porch however was used a lot!! Along with the kayaks! It is just like a family cabin should be. Comfortable bedding, plenty of linens, soaps, & all the kitchen items you'd need. The well seasoned cast iron fry pans made the best pancakes and eggs! Hated to leave at weeks end!
I have stayed at numerous cabins over the years, and this is the only one that was even better in person than the pictures. I am originally from the UP and my grandparents lived on a lake about 30 mins from this cabin. It gave me all the warm fuzzies of those great memories. I do not have one negative thing to say about this property or the owners. I loved, loved, loved the bunkhouse. I could have just stayed there and my review would still be just as glowing. Anyone who loves the Northwoods and the simplicity of life - the sights and smells that trigger a memory of life before us will truly appreciate what this property has to offer. On a side note , the weather wasn't the greatest for August, but that made the fishing better. My grandkids were so thrilled with catching the sunnies off the dock with bacon and corn. Wished we could have stayed longer.
This is our 4th time staying at the North Forty. This family does fabulous upkeep of this property, with yearly maintenance. It is clean, and the property is very quiet (and the neighbors around the lake appreciate that the quiet be maintained). The lake is not ideal for large boats for waterskiing or tubing, but there are folks out fishing nearly everyday.
Beautiful vintage cabin on peaceful Crystal Lake in Northwoods Wisconsin. My siblings & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The screened in porch was heavenly. Hope to stay again at the North40 in the future.
We cannot say enough good things about The North 40! A beautifully maintained truly vintage cabin gave us the feeling of being kids again in the 1970s! The lot is very private and the lake very peaceful yet active. The beds were comfy and the kitchen fireplace on cold mornings and the large, inviting screen porch on warm evenings were our favorites! The boat house is charming and perfect for guest overflow or the kids! The dock was perfect and plenty of toys to play with. Enjoyed kayaking around the lake. Perfectly located 2 minutes to town, groceries, casino and all our favorite supper clubs! Our host was responsive and answered any questions in a timely fashion. We can’t wait to come back next year!
