Wonderful stay celebrating GF birthdays. Magical getaway so much to do and the location is gorgeous. Highly recommend for all ages. The barn was an extra benefit
From the moment we arrived, this farmhouse completely stole our hearts. The charm and character of the home are absolutely unmatched — every room feels like it’s straight out of a storybook. Knowing it was the filming location for The Longest Ride made it even more special; you can truly feel the history and romance woven into every corner. The decor was perfectly curated, with a balance of vintage touches and cozy comforts that made us feel instantly at home. Every detail, from the beautiful hardwood floors to the thoughtfully placed antiques, added to the overall experience. It’s clear the owners put so much care into preserving the authenticity of the home while offering all the modern amenities you could need. The setting is peaceful and breathtaking, making it the perfect getaway. We spent mornings with coffee on the porch, taking in the views, and evenings gathered around the cozy living room, feeling like we were part of a movie ourselves. This farmhouse is truly a hidden gem, and staying here was an experience we’ll never forget. We can’t wait to come back!
We loved the house and property so much everything we needed and more it is a very special place to stay! Laina was wonderful to work with and made everything so easy from beginning to end. We all want to come back again!
Gorgeous historic farmhouse with amazing fishing pond and river. Couldn’t ask for a more peaceful, picturesque setting that was not far from a major Highway. Owner is very responsive and communicative. Would definitely visit again in the future.

Great country home experience!!!
This home looks like a picture postcard in person. Great weekend away from it all with friends. The home was immaculate, well decorated and very comfortable. We will definitely return.
We were able to reserve the River house for our family's Christmas gathering and it was perfect! Our home is being renovated due to water damage so we needed a place for our children and grandchildren to gather for Christmas. There was plenty of space for us and the kitchen was fabulous for cooking our Christmas meal. It was very clean and comfortable. I'm pretty sure it will be a Christmas we will always remember. The setting is amazing and at night when you're sitting by the fire pit the only noise is the river flowing over the rocks. Great place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the land!
We had high expectations based on the photos and reviews, but the Mitchell arrived House still exceeded our expectations. Very well-appointed home, comfortable and tastefully. Stunning property. We spent most of our time on-site due to rainy weather, but we’re close to the vineyards. 30 minutes to Elkin if you want to dine out, go to a brewery, or hear live music. We did not want to leave and hope to return.
Our only regret was not being able to stay longer! Our friend was in a near by town and was able to join us, there was plenty of room. My favorite part is the property is not listed in the description at all — huge windows!!! There are huge windows overlooking the river/yard/porch! I sat by different windows to read throughout the weekend. Communication was wonderful and the house was fully stocked with everything we needed. We’re booking again!

Beautiful Home & Property!
A group of girlfriends and I stayed at the Mitchell River House for a weekend away and it did not disappoint! The house and the property were beautiful and in great condition. Our stay was perfect and the property owner Laina was so helpful answering our calls/texts with any questions we had. The surrounding area is really great as well - there is river tubing, a quaint downtown area in Elkin and countless vineyards. We event did a vineyard tour with a shuttle around to 4 different vineyards which I highly recommend as well. Even with all of the charms of the surrounding area I would have been just as happy to stay on the Mitchell River House property as there are lots of little nooks to explore and an amazing front porch to sit on with a book in hand :) I will definitely be back to visit this home again! Thank you Laina for your hospitality and for sharing this gem!
I worked with Laina to rent this property to host a post-wedding farewell brunch, as the wedding was in nearby Mt. Airy.
Once we arrived, our immediate reaction was “wow” look how beautiful. The family has left no stone unturned in the details.
Six of stayed at the house, but we had use of the “event barn” the next morning to host brunch. We used the large back porch off of the kitchen to serve (they had plenty of tables), and guests made they way to the barn to eat and have a few mimosas.
The kids enjoyed the river and once everybody departed we got the highlight of our trip—-the Longhorns!!!! OMG! Coolest thing ever!
We finished our evening with a nice fire under the starry sky around the fire pit.
Our one regret? We couldn’t stay longer.
Once you turn onto the road leading to the property, passing the Mitchell River on the right and the open fields on the left, you know you are in a different world. Then you cross the little bridge over the rushing river, you are in a different universe. Open spaces, a huge meadow with longhorns, the red and white barn with its rose bushes and the main house with the inviting porch mean you can let go of your "normal" life. The house dates back to the 19th century, and has been renovated to meet modern conveniences while still reflecting the history. Comfortable beds, two big sitting rooms, a beautiful kitchen with eat-in dining and of course, the porch. Then there is the barn with its upstairs space for "hanging out" indoors, or on a huge balcony overlooking yet another long vista. And the quiet..... Everyone is ready to return to recharge our batteries. Thank you, Laina, for anticipating all your guests' needs.
What an amazing location for our family’s Thanksgiving celebration. Everything was top notch. No detail was ignored. If you ever have a chance to stay at the Mitchell River House….DO IT!
We have stayed at this property many many times over the years. We absolutely love it. It is the perfect little escape. My husband loves to trout fish and love spending the day on the river just a short walk from the house.
We were only at this lovely home for 2 nights, and I wish we'd had more time to enjoy it. It would have been the perfect place to curl up with a good book or a movie if the weather hadn't been so gorgeous, but instead we enjoyed fishing on the nearby rivers. The house was perfectly situated to fish for a bit, come home for a good lunch & then head back out for more fishing.
There were only 4 of us this weekend, but there was plenty of space to spread out, and we would have been quite happy there as a much larger group.
The kitchen was well-equipped to cook for our crew.
The beds were really comfortable, and the rooms were dark and cozy. If we hadn't been so excited about the fishing, we would easily have slept much later.
We're looking forward to coming back so that we can have time to enjoy the view from the front porch, spend some time at the fire pit, and hang out with Arlo & Spot, the dog-like Longhorns, again.
We absolutely loved our stay here! You could hear the river from the rockers on the front porch and the longhorns were beautiful to watch. The entire property was peaceful and beautiful. The house had more than enough room for the 7 of us and the beds were very comfortable! We visited a couple wineries in the area and then relaxed by the fire pit with s'mores. We will definitely be coming back!
We stayed at the Mitchell River House while in town for a family wedding weekend. The house was exceptionally clean and there was plenty of room for our group of 6 adults and one toddler. Not only is the house gorgeous, but it is also very comfortable. Located in a quiet/rural setting, the property has a firepit (with a wood pile), an inviting front porch, a pasture with longhorn cattle, and a river all adjacent to it. We all agreed that we would love to return in the fall when the leaves turn - we wanted more time to explore local attractions and time to enjoy the property's amenities.
We have been to Mitchell River house many times over the past 10 years. This place is magical
