Sea Breeze Cottage is a lovely terraced property, located in the quiet Hamlet of Cowbar, just a short walk away from the popular fishing village of Staithes, on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. This beautiful former miners cottage, is set up on the hillside, just yards from the cliff tops, dating back to the 1800’s, and has now been lovingly renovated. The ground floor boasts a living room with a multi-fuel burner and views over the North York Moors, as well as a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely, bright, southfacing dining room/conservatory with great views over the surrounding countryside. There are storage radiators in the living room, kitchen and both bedrooms.
Cowbar is on the route of the Cleveland Way, and is just a short stroll down to a foot bridge which allows access over Staithes Beck, where you will find traditional pubs, restaurants and a museum. Sea Breeze Cottage is perfectly located for those wanting to get out and explore the Heritage Coast or the North York Moors.
With its higgledy-piggledy cottages and winding streets, the town of Staithes was once one of the largest fishing ports on the north east coast and is now a well-loved base for exploring Yorkshire’s cliff top paths, and discovering the delights of rock pooling and fossil hunting on the small sandy beach. Whitby is just a short drive away, and was made famous by its links to Bram Stokers ’Dracula’, and the haunting Abbey standing over this bustling fishing town. Keep an eye out for the many events and festivals that take place throughout the year such as the Goth Weekender, Steam Punk Festival and the Whitby Regatta, just to name a few. The area is a beach lovers paradise, with miles of golden sands and bays hidden all along this stunning coastline, such as Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay. Perfect for nature lovers, take a walk on the Cleveland Way, or head inland to explore the hundreds of designated walking routes through the National Park. Comprising over 1,400 miles of natural beauty, this enchanting region is home to heather moorland, pine forests and rolling hills, not to mention badgers, deer and hawks. Look closer and you’ll discover historic abbeys, castles, priories, traditional pubs and ’hidden’ villages and hamlets. Take to the trees on a rope swing in Dalby Forest, or hire a bike and explore a landscape of ruins, legends and endless horizons. For something different why not take the steam train from Whitby right into ’Heartbeat country’, or take a drive through some of the countries most amazing scenery. Beach ¼ mile. Shop 2 miles, 1 mile on foot, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

This is a comfortable place to stay on the NE coast, 100yds from the clifftops. The stove on the fireplace catches well with the provided sticks and coal, the radiators work well too. The conservatory is snug and comfy giving a fine view over upper Staithes.A great base for touring the area.
Amazing location; lovely cottage. No WiFi but not a problem for us.

The location was better than I could have imagined! Ability to walk above the cliffs from the front
The location was better than I could have imagined! Ability to walk above the cliffs from the front door or wander down to the village for beach and rock pool access. We even met the neighbours who were lovely too. The conservatory was a great spot to sit and watch the sky in the evening. My only thoughts are that the sea view room could do with a new mattress and we struggled to get water hot enough to do the washing up with from the kitchen tap at any time of day - we resorted to boiling a kettle. This might have been why some of the crockery needed washing up before we used it on arrival. The same was true of the downstairs shower re hot water - it was warmer than the sea we decided, but the upstairs shower was fantastic!
Our stay at the cottage was very comfortable. For us it was all about location to Staithes as we went to paint and sketch.
The property is very small quite dark in the living area but not a problem as we where out most of the time even thought the weather was rather mixed. The downstairs shower and toilet facilities where rather cold for a shower so we just used the upstairs shower .
Could do with shelving in kitchen or cupboards for food supplies.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.
