Rustic, restored cottage on secluded 24 acres overlooking Balingup.
Myrtlemae Farm is a 24-acre property hidden away behind state forest one kilometre from the town centre of Balingup. It features meandering gardens and stunning views over-looking the Blackwood River Valley. ‘Rustic’ is certainly a word you could use to describe Myrtlemae Cottage. It is also ‘cosy’, ‘charming’ and ‘comfy’. We think the cottage started life as a stables come work shed. Since then it has been through a few changes including the addition of flagstone floors using bricks rescued from the old Balingup Hotel. The cottage has been meticulously re-purposed. The interior living space is essentially one large room split over two levels. The upper level features a queen and two king single beds. On the lower level is the living area with lounge (which folds out to a double bed) and wood fire, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen has a stainless-steel oven, gas cooktop and fridge along with a toaster. kettle, and Nespresso including tea and complimentary coffee pods. Off the main space modern bathroom that also has a washer/dryer combo. There is also access to south facing deck (perfect for sunsets). There’s no TV, but you can stare out the widescreen window and take in the nature channel all day and there is a host of books, games and puzzles to entertain.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The views and surrounding scenery were absolutely stunning, perfect for anyone wanting to truly disconnect and be immersed in nature. The location strikes a great balance of feeling secluded while still being accessible. It was also fantastic that the property is pet-friendly. Our dogs loved it just as much as we did, with great walking spots so close by. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable being able to bring them along and explore the area together. One of our favourite parts was sitting out on the veranda, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, it was incredibly relaxing. In the evenings, the cosy fireplace made the space feel even more inviting and comfortable.Overall, it’s an ideal getaway if you’re looking for tranquillity, beautiful surroundings, and a place to unwind (with your pets too). We would definitely stay again
We loved the location - close to town but felt so secluded. And the cottage was really comfortable & cosy. Beautiful outlook over the farm as well. Was a chilly weekend so was great being able to have the fire going!

Thanks for your positive comments and review Helen. Glad you enjoyed your stay. A
A 'no fuss' pet friendly stay in a characterful place. Many mature trees on the property and scenic paddock views really made our birding trip memorable.
The property was absolutely lovely and so peaceful! I stayed there with my toddler and two dogs and we had really nice time. The house was super clean and stocked with everything we needed. The host was great to deal with and very patient. We will most likely be booking again in the near future! Highly recommend.
Lovely escape from the people world! Rustic and thoroughly enjoyed the scenic views! My kind of holiday! Feeling rested and relaxed

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Although the place was rustic we felt that some essentials could have been provided or at least informed they were not included - no microwave - no hanging for clothes as there was no where to unpack, no complimentary shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom - no hairdryer, only seating outside for 2 and the chairs have seen better days, the tea coffe and sugar were passed their sell by date too - communication was absolutely excellent but we felt it a bit on the expensive side for what was provided
The cottage was well presented, and communication was excellent from Al, the host. The rustic accommodation is perfect for a relaxing holiday, and the location is great. We would recommend!
Everything about this stay was incredible. The cottage was cosy and stayed super warm with the fire going. The property was so peaceful and stunning. Can’t wait to return!
We were down from Perth with our dog gor a weekend away. The accommodation was just what we needed, the photos are a good indication of the layout and amenities. Super clean, comfy bed, and a great fire and heater, so despite the cold weather we were cosy. Very relaxing and easy get away..

Thnaks for you kind review Sarah. So glad you, and your dog, enjoyed your time at Myrtlemae.
The cottage is a beautiful little getaway. Quiet, peaceful, minutes from the town of Balingup so you can drive in and get something from Foster's Bakery! Photos are accurate. Communication was very good. We would love to stay again.
We enjoyed the atmosphere in and around the accommodation. Greens, raindrops, birds and kangaroos. Woodfire gave us a relaxing time. Love this cottage.
The setting was beautiful and the view from inside lovely. We had a lot of little bugs inside and the trees on the roof were very noisy at night.
We enjoy the peace and quiet and loved seeing the horses. They were very friendly and happily ate carrots and apples from our hands.
A lovely stay with my daughter.
A peaceful and serene stay on the outskirts of Balingup, tucked away on a beautiful private property with gorgeous views & friendly horses that visit. No TV but a warm log fire, board games and books....perfect place to unwind with simple pleasures to entertain. Rustic simplicity at its best....thank you!
Nice quiet get away! Location was easy to find and kept clean. Unfortunately no hand soap which was an inconvenience till we brought our own. Bathroom could have been cleaned a little better.
Over all nice relaxing place with friendly horses.
Will return in the near future.
Property is looking a bit unloved and neglected. Needs a paint inside and garden needs work. Minor maintenance -doors hard to shut, family of lizards living on front deck, trees growing into windows. Air con not working to capacity. Someone has really done hard work initially on this restoration and this farmstay property could easily be beautiful again. Area is scenic and resident horses Jack and Bowie enjoyed our apples!

Hi Wendy. Thanks for your review. As it happens we are pausing accom bookings shortly to freshen up. The cottage is booked consistently so it gets well used, but also as a result gets a bit knocked around. It’s popularity also makes it tricky to find a window to do works. But we recognize it’s due. Hence the pause. We hope to have you back to visit when it’s refreshed. A
A lovely property set in a peaceful location and only a short driving distance to the township of Balingup. Once the fire is going, it's very cosy and warm. Wonderful views of the surrounding land. The water pressure to the bathroom basin was very low and it wasn't easy to regulate the shower temperature. Had to run the water for some time before we had hot water. Sink tap in kitchen had a leak and I used chux wipes around tap to try to stop water flooding the wood bench top. A plumber is probably needed to fix this. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. Thank you :-)
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Location is perfect, very peaceful and private, but only a couple of minutes out of Balingup. The fire kept me cosy at night, and the serenity was just what I needed. Listing is accurate….it is a rustic cottage! But modern bathroom and everything you could ask for. No wifi and no TV suited me perfectly. Good phone reception if you need to keep in contact. I will be back.
