Cornerstone is a comfortable house for a holiday with family or friends. It has two queen bedrooms, one with ensuite, and third bedroom with two single beds. As well as the ensuite bathroom there is also a central bathroom with shower and toilet.
Cornerstone is off the beaten track. After a few k's on dirt roads you enter the property gate and then have a long driveway through ti tree. The house is deep in the coastal bush and there are no other houses within sight or sound. Some visitors have found this isolation unnerving so please bear that in mind when making a booking. But for people who like a bush setting and peace and quiet it is ideal - as well as being a short drive from a good flat white!
In the warmer months you may see snakes. Just keep your distance and they will slither away! Mosquitoes and sandflies can also be pesky at some times of year.
If you hear the patter of feet on the roof in the night please do not be alarmed they are probably only possums and other native creatures. there is a full solar system with battery backup for peace of mind when there is a danger of powercuts on the grid

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
I’d appreciate it if you would put rubbish directly into the skip on the driveway.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Fires are not permitted outside.
There are outside security cameras. Please let me know if you'd like them turned off during your visit.
Please be aware this is a nature reserve. Drive slowly to avoid hitting wildlife. As well as wallabies and wombats you might see snakes.

Cornerstone is a peaceful retreat for anyone who enjoys natural bush, wildlife, birdwatching and dark skies, just a short distance from the entrance to Wilson's Prom National Park.
The host was very welcoming and gave a lot of useful information about the property and the surrounding area. The amenities were very good and there was a lot of things to cook with and everything was easy to find.
A comfortable, cosy base to come back to after exploring the area each day. It was a peaceful location in a natural bush setting with only the birds and wildlife for company.
We had such a wonderful stay at this birdwatchers paradise!Plenty of different birds visiting the bird bath (which we could have spent hours watching), tracks to explore on the property, a cosy indoor fire, comfy beds & a well equipped kitchen for family feasts.Close to the entry to Wilsons Promontory for adventures & exploring and not too far from the sweet little town of Fish Creek for coffee & other delicacies (check out the incredible new bakery Pain Pardu!) plus amazing local artisans. We’d love to come back
Kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. Rooms were clean and comfortable. House was well maintained and comfortable for our stay. Lovely and quiet and peaceful with wildlife to be seen and heard. Good communication with host. Easy to check in and out of property. Very happy with our stay
We enjoyed our stay at this quaint property! Plenty of beautiful birds who loved the bird bath once we filled it up! The house was very tidy and we enjoyed being off the grid and having space! Easy drive into Wilson’s prom from the property
A lovely cottage for a few days stay. Tranquil location close to the Prom - easy for day walks. Great log fire for the cooler days and a well furnished kitchen. We greatly enjoyed our stay here.
Nice relaxing place on a property where you can spot animals/birds. The house has ample space & kitchen items for self-catering, etc. The road to the house was in good condition & fine for 2 wheel drive vehicles. Would stay again.
It's a beautiful place in nature. And a good spot to explore the Wilson Prom National Park. However, in our opinion the accommodation could be cleaner.
The place is surrounded by nature in a forest. Great to relax and let the hours float away. The proximity to the Prom makes it such a nice gateway to day hikes.
We enjoyed staying in this house because it was within walking distance of Corner Inlet and there was no traffic going past the front gate. Following instructions to get to the property was easy. Amanda
If you want to get away from the noise of city this is the perfect place to relax. The house itself was lovely but could use a TV upgrade. We definitely return at later date to enjoy this place once again
Loved watching the birds!
House needs AC when the weather gets over 35 degrees.
Beautiful spot, so quiet.

HI Bronwyn I am sorry that you hit the hottest day this summer! Over Christmas we were dreaming it might get properly hot. We feel it would not be environmentally reponsible to add AC to the house but its good to have your review up there so future visitors can make an informed decision. We have tried hard to make it warm enough for the cooler months of which there are lots!
Cornerstone was located close to the Prom, in a quiet / peaceful part of the area. It was lovely to get away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne, and back to nature. Louisa was a great host pre and during our stay, including tips on some great local walks. Thank you

The bird life was amazing. Close to Wilsons prom.
The place was clean and as advertised. Very unusual to see the property owners turn up unannounced on a few occasions while we were there. I presumed when renting a property that you had the privacy you paid for.

Hi Thomas. Sorry us coming around disturbed you. The first time was the middle of the day when I expected you to be out so I could drop off some extra toilet rolls. Being out in the bush I like to check things are ok as sometimes our city visitors feel isolated. I asked if it was ok with you if I came back as I needed some things from the garage and you seemed perfectly happy with that. If I had a clue you wanted to be left completely alone I'd have been happy to do that.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
Our stay was marred by the discovery of undisclosed security cameras. At no point on the property listing, or in the booking process were we informed of these cameras; we discovered them during a late-night walk. Two cameras were especially concerning, appearing to face the living room, backyard, bathroom windows, and a bedroom. This felt incredibly invasive, especially for a place advertised as private and secluded. We came seeking quiet and isolation but instead felt constantly watched. Walking in a towel or glancing out a bathroom window was uncomfortable. After contact, the owner said they’d turn the cameras off, but knowing they can be remotely reactivated was unsettling, and raised concerns about whether more cameras were hidden around or in the property.Other minor issues: the property could have been cleaner, blinds need improvement (none in living space, none for one of bedroom windows, translucent blinds in remaining bedrooms). While the property had nice nature surrounds, good location, and adequate amenities, the privacy violation overshadowed the experience. Stayz surveillance policies clearly state that cameras should be disclosed in the property description page, including their coverage. Their policies also state that bathrooms and bedrooms should not be under surveillance full stop. This property did not follow those policies, and we were left feeling that our privacy was disregarded. This was not the holiday experience that we paid for.

I’m sorry the cameras spoiled your stay. I can assure you that none of them can see inside the house they are there for outside security between guests. I have a very clear sign on the gate to the house saying there are cameras and I was happy to turn them off when you asked.
The house is isolated and we have had burglaries in the past so I had been looking into cameras and got them installed literally on the day you arrived.
About the host
Hosted by Louisa
Michael and Louisa are passionate about protecting land for nature. By visiting Cornerstone you are helping us maintain the 100+ acre Winkarlin bush island as a sanctuary. With its connection via the coastal reserve to Wilson's Prom the bush around Cornerstone is a very important natural resource.
Why they chose this property
Over 100 different species have been identified in and around Cornerstone. For example, there are flocks of Blue-winged parrots breeding there. We are always hoping to spot one with an orange belly! Most days you will see wallabies on the driveway and we regularly see wombats, blue-tongues and echidnas. Corner Inlet is a marine park and the bird life is stunning!
Cornerstone's main feature is its privacy. After leaving the beaten track and taking some unmade roads you will travel up a 500m drive way through dense ti-tree. There you will be surprised to find a pretty garden and comfortable house.
Click on the Satellite option on the map of Cornerstone and you will see the Winkarlin bush island and how it connects to the Coastal Reserve. Vistors are welcome to explore over 50 acres of bush around the Cornerstone house and we can suggest interesting directions to try. Our goal is to preserve this whole bush area in perpetuity and by staying at Cornerstone you are helping us make this vision financially viable!
What makes this property unique
Even the locals are surprised to find the loveliness and emptiness of Winkarlin Beach. It is only metres from Cornerstone's driveway to the entrance to the beach which is good for swimming at high tide and wonderful for exploring at all times.
For fishing enthusiasts you can try you luck off the 'flat rock' on Winkarlin Beach at low tide or walk along the beach to the seawall for high tide fishing.
