Wonderful place to relax

My whole family had a great time at the farm stay. Cathy was a wonderful host, showing us around the place and running all the activities. The kids can't get enough of the place.

Kids dream

Thank you Cathy and her helpers for making our stay so fantastic. The kids loved their daily animal feeding run and pony rides. The cottage was clean, comfortable and warm even though it was rainy for some of our stay. There are toys for inside and out to keep the kids too busy to be bored. The country garden is fantastic for adults to relax in and kids to explore. Cathy went that extra step to make sure our stay was the best she could make it. I can't thank her enough for her care.

Relaxing family weekend

Host Cathy was friendly and fun. Accommodation was large and homely and had lots of toys etc for kids. Mostly comfy but the lounge room could do with an update - rug and two arm chairs quite old and discoloured so a bit grotty looking. Small vinyl couch was clean and fine but if more than two people staying I don't know where they would comfortably sit in lounge. The high chair was filthy - I spent a good 20 minutes cleaning it when we arrived. Floors and linen was clean as were basic surfaces in kitchen and bathroom but could do with a clean inside most cupboards etc. I am a stickler for cleanliness so perhaps it wasn't so bad, I am just fussy. Despite this, the place was still a lovely place to stay. Welcome basket provided. Kids room fantastic. Cathy made sure we were taken care of. Feeding times were not exact and often varied up to an hour so we were left wondering where she was (late replies to text messages etc. when we enquired if feeding was happening as we were outside waiting). Well set up for children - lots of cute animals and ways to get involved if so desired. Playground and trampoline. Fresh eggs to collect daily. Baby bunnies. Tux the soccer playing dog was the absolute standout for us - he was great. Good location -

Perfect for our 2 year old

Perfect first farmstay for our 2 year old daughter (and us.) Only a 40 minute drive from our home in Perth, but still has that foresty rural feeling. Daughter ADORED the kids bedroom with the abundance of toddler toys. She also loved the playground and sandpit which is immediately opposite the house. The cottage is 100 years old but excellently renovated with a nice kitchen. We went in late Autumn and it was 14 degrees overnight in our bedrooms without the heaters on, but the flannel sheets and doonas kept us excellently warm. (There's a heater in every room if you need additional heat.) The house is exceptionally well equipped for toddlers. It would be extra good if there were blackout blinds in the kids' room for day naps and summer nights. Our toddler was terrified of all animals prior to this trip and I was anxious about whether we were doing the right thing in taking her to a farm, but the gentle daily exposure to the animals worked wonders and by the end she was playing catch with Tux the dog. (Note - I asked Cathy to keep Tux inside when we very first arrived in order to ease my daughter into it, and Cathy was very willing to oblige.) In May 2016 Cathy was being supported by a young visiting horse worker from Europe called Sophie, and Sophie was absolutely gorgeous and gentle with my daughter who still talks about her daily. We ate lunch at a local licensed cafe called By the Brook and enjoyed it tranquil setting and its proximity to the cottage (5 minute drive). A lovely part of the world and a lovely farmstay.

Lovely Time

The property was beautiful. Cathy was really friendly and helpful. Lots of animals. We took teenage girls and they had a great time. They were able to just wander around the large property safely whenever they wanted to. Cathy's pets were all so friendly. (Dogs and cats) Big bonfire on Saturday night was great. Little house / cabin fully equipped with all the essentials. Beautiful fireplace. Heating in every room. Relaxing! :-)

Best family short break ever!

What a magical place! This is our second time here, this time with a 2.5 and 4 year old. From the moment we arrived the kids were entertained with the numerous toys and activities. The morning and afternoon feeding sessions with the animals was a hit. The kids loved their bedroom and we loved the peace and tranquility. All so close to Perth and everything you could possibly think of was supplied. Cathy and her trusty dog were fantastic with the kids going above and beyond their duty. Thank you!!! We’ll be back.

Wonderful!

Cathy was absolutely lovely and provided for a warm and comfortable stay at the cottage. Both Lauren and Cathy were wonderful with our small kids (2 demanding toddlers!) and truly left them with an unforgettable experience, especially the daily animal feeds and horse riding. The cottage is in a peaceful location, just a short drive away from daily conveniences, wineries, restaurants etc. Highly recommended for a family retreat!

Another great experience for the family

This is our second stay with Cathy after our first trip last year...the kids totally enjoyed themselves feeding the animals and wondering around the farm. Tux is still ever energetic and the first thing my son woke up was to walk out of the house to play with Tux who is very gentle with the kids (9, 6 and 3). Cathy was great in guiding the kids in handling the animals and we felt safe letting the kids play and wonder outside by themselves. My kids already missed the farm and wants to go back again next year. The house was well stocked with toys and kitchen equipment that it really feels like a home.

Fantastic family weekend!

Thank you Cathy for a memorable weekend at Gumleaf Cottage. The kids had an absolute ball feeding the animals, collecting eggs, riding in the hay cart, playing with Tux and riding the ponies. The house is so well equipped for young children with lots of indoor and outdoor toys and is very cosy and homely. We all enjoyed our stay, grown-ups and kids alike, and I've no doubt we will be back next year.

An unforgettable experience

Our stay at the farm is truly memorable. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable, with all the basic necessities provided. Cathy has even prepared complimentary fruits, pancake mix and snacks for us. Our kids really enjoyed riding on the wagon, feeding the animals,, collecting the freshly laid eggs and playing with the dog. Will definitely come back if we have the chance!

Wonderful family holiday

We just spent 3 nights at gumleaf cottage and had the most wonderful time. Our 2 and 4 year old girls loved it. They loved feeding the animals and just being on the property in general. Cathy was wonderful with them and very patient in showing them what to do. Our eldest loved the pony ride and cuddling all the rabbits. The property is so serene and the old cottage full of character. Loved every minute and would highly recommend. Our kids didn't want to leave!! Also plenty of good food places close by and lots to do in the swan valley. Thanks for a great holiday.

Quality Family Time

A weekend away, not far from the city left us all with everlasting memories. Our grandchildren loved feeding the animals, riding a pony and generally interacting with the bush and special animals at Gumleaf Farmstay. We were welcomed straight away by Tux, the amazing dog. His temperament is such that we were never concerned about the children playing with a dog they didn't know. Cathy is so gentle and incredibly patient. She spent so much time teaching the children about the animals and allowing them to experience the best of farm life. We were free to wander the farm at our leisure and everyone agreed that we had the best weekend away. We hope to come again in the future. Thankyou Cathy.

Best time ever

I could not agree more, we must have been the next guests after Tang and everything that has been said I completely agree with, my grandchildren whilst being driven to feed the animals in the trailer (plus hay carrots etc) just said "best time ever" totally unprompted, the constant smiles on their little faces priceless, Cathy has the patience and kindness of a saint, we will return without a doubt ... thank you Cathy x

Home away from home

We stayed 3 nights at Cathy's place and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Our son was in tears when we had to leave as he had grown attached to Tux, the sheepdog. Cathy is a wonderful host who pays attention to details--her cottage is well-stocked with utensils, dinnerware, cleaning equipment, etc. to make the cottage feel like home. We were worried about the cold in winter but it was not an issue as there was heating in every room (and comfy fleece robes too!). There was a lot of information about things to do in the vicinity (super accessible!). She left us a welcome basket and even marshmallows on the mantle so that urbanites like us can have a go at roasting marshmallows. Our children (3yo and 5yo) were entertained by the toys, books, stuffed animals in their bedroom. The place is very child-friendly with the availability of a high chair, baby bathtub, child guard for bed, trampoline and playground/sand pit. Cathy herself is a gentle soul with a heart for the animals and what she does--she was very patient in showing the children around the farm and encouraging them with the animals. This is a place run with a lot of love and offers an intimate experience into authentic farm life.

Great farmstay for the kids

We enjoyed our stay at the Gumleaf Cottage Farmstay very much. The kids had a great time interacting with the animals. We can see that Cathy takes great pride in her animals and has a strong bond with them which makes the place feel homely and welcoming. Every animal has a name! We especially loved Tux the dog who was ever ready for a game of catch or ball. The kids were given a chance to ride on a horse, cuddle the rabbits, collect eggs from the chooks and more. The cottage is homely and cosy. The toys in the kids room entertained the kids every evening (during the day we were too busy pottering around the farm!) Location was good, 7-10 min drive to nearby stretch of supermarkets/stores. 20 minutes from Swan Valley which made it a good base for exploring the wineries. Cathy herself is a lovely and accommodating host, and her part time help are also very friendly with us. We would definitely return one day if we have the chance!!

Great Fun at the Farm

We had a wonderful couple of days at Gumleaf Cottage Farmstay. Thank you so much Cathy for being such a fantastic host and for patiently answering ALL of the kids many questions! The cottage is delightful and the children room was perfect for our 6 and 2 year old. There was everything you could possibly need for a young family at the cottage and Cathy was the most helpful host even going as far as to hang out our laundry to dry after we had gone out for the afternoon. The children loved the sand pit and play area, the trampoline, the pony rides, the animal feeding, the constant cuddles and play with the Tux the dog and Possum and Smudge the cats ... and the adults loved the fact the children were so well entertained! The Cottage is well located for day trips in to Perth but the highlight was the peace and quiet of its location in the Maundering Hills. We would highly recommend for a farmstead experience particularly if you have young children.

Cathay was a great host! The farm was easy to find and the cottage was very cosy and homey! The kids (3 & 5yo) really enjoyed the farm, pony ride, sandpit and accompanying cathay in the mornings and evenings as she went on her rounds. Tux was a super friendly and playful dog and the boys enjoyed and looked forward to playing with him everyday! Definitely a great experience and very memorable! Thank u!!!
