About this property
Best Of Both! Private Asheville Retreat Near Attractions and Surrounding Areas
Secluded, private retreat for guests desiring a place to relax with friends or family, yet only a 5 miles from any kind of store you could need. Private lake on 9 acres - hiking and fishing right out your door. We have wild turkeys, wild and domestic ducks, Canadian Geese, 20+ species of birds, Wild Blue Herons, turtles, bull frogs and the occasional Green Heron, fox, coyote or black bear (these wild animals have never bothered a person on the property). We have trails throughout the nine acres, which guests are welcome to enjoy.
The open floor plan is ideally suited for groups - the Great Room, Kitchen and Dining areas are all open - no walls in between. Bedrooms are all private, separate spaces with doors which lock from the inside.
In Fall of 2016, the two en suite bathrooms were completely gutted and renovated. The King Master Suite bathroom has two shower heads - one traditional, and one "hand held", which is on the side of the shower, next to a built in tile bench. The floor in this bathroom is seamless between the bathroom floor and shower floor, so anyone with mobility challenges will have a very easy time. The toilets in both en suites are comfort height toilets. Both en suite bathrooms have solid wood, double sink vanities, with lots of counter space and large mirrors. There is a blowdryer for guest use in the vanity in the King Master Suite.

We have all levels of puzzles, cards and games for inside fun, and ring toss, bocce, giant pick up sticks and whiffle ball for outside fun.

*Large Fire Pit area down by and overlooking the lake, with large chairs and rocks. There is also a safety glass topped patio table and four chairs. This is a favorite place to spend an evening, enjoying each other, telling stories and roasting hot dogs and making s'mores.

Coming up the driveway towards the house is a paved "pull off" for a car to park in front of the house. Near the lake, there is a paved strip of pavement as well.
*Laundry Room with Maytag Washing Machine and Driver, as well as a well stocked First Aid Kit. Iron (regular, not "heavy duty") and standing ironing board in house.
*Stone fireplace for cozy rainy or snowy days. Fireplace wood is conveniently stacked outside the front door under the porch.

*We have gone the extra mile to ensure our guests have peace of mind and a totally restful sleep. All beds at Wynn's Way have the most advanced, premium quality, locked mattress and pillow protectors as a foundational level of protection. The house undergoes a thorough, top level cleaning following the departure of any guests. All beds have been freshly made with soft, white sheets prior to guests arrival.
*Soft, white, cotton bath towels and wash cloths are provided for each guest. We ask that guests with make-up, medication or lotion on their face use the lavender wash cloths we provide, in order to keep our linens fresh and clean for all guests.
*Immediately behind Wynn's Way, there is a paved parking area for two large vehicles. There is also a "pull in" to a paved area which turns into forest, but would allow the other two cars to get out. As you approach the house, there is a paved "pull-in" to the left, in front of the house, with space for another car. In addition, when driving away from the house, at the bottom of the hill, the driveway splits. To your right is a paved road which dead ends into the forest, and would accommodate a trailer or larger vehicle. To the left, the driveway continues by the lake, past the Fire Pit and out to Merrill's Cove Road.
During COVID 19, we are not able to accept booking requests from groups who choose not to be vaccinated. We are sorry for this, but our team (and family) includes "high risk" individuals, so we must be very careful until this situation fully resolves. Thank you for your understanding.

About the host
Hosted by elisabeth haslam
Wynn's Way was built by our family in 1994 as a home for our son and his family, and has been a treasured place since that time. We started renting to select guests in the Fall of 2016, and have had the blessing of wonderful guests who appreciate the house and property. We have a NO SMOKING policy for the house and the property. We do not accept "blind bookings". Please give us a sense of the relationship of your group - who will be coming, what type of trip is planned and what you are looking for in your trip to the Asheville area. The house is located on significant acreage, as are all the homes in the area. The only other home you see from the property is the home of our gown son and his family, living in our family home, where he grew up, and is on its' own tract of acreage. We rent to groups of friends, families, groups on retreat, church or any groups who want to spend quality time together. The house is set up to sleep and meet the needs of many configurations of guests .
Our guests enjoy the rich natural beauty of Asheville, as well as the incredible cultural and gastronomic scene Asheville offers.
Our standard line is "If you are looking for a rental to get drunk and run naked through the woods, this is not the house for you". We have been fortunate to have guests who appreciate a well appointed home, and are looking for a place which is more like a home than a rental house.
Nowadays, outdoor sport is fishing - our lake has a "CATCH & RELEASE" policy.
Our home is unique in that there are animal heads from travels to Africa, the NorthWest Territory, Panama, North Carolina, Texas and other parts of the world. We are strong supporters of open lands, wildlife conservation and protecting endangered species - hunting has been a 250 year old family tradition, with all meat and hides going to feed and benefit others.
It is our hope you feel you are in a "home away from home", and the environment promotes rest and relaxation

Why they chose this property
This is not a typical "pack 'em in" rental house. The combination of a natural area, and being very close to everything is unique for what is available in the rental market.. Guests can get Downtown Asheville, The Nature Center, The Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village, the River Arts District, and Sierra Nevada Brewery in approximately the same amount of driving time - about 15 minutes. There are hiking trails right out your door, if you want to hike the property, and are very close to other hiking venues, kayaking, tubing, white water rafting and more.
Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Brevard and Black Mountain are all a 30 minute drive or less (Flat Rock, add another 5 minutes.)
We built the house on our existing property to have separate space for family who wanted to enjoy the natural beauty of Asheville. The property has over nine acres of private, open space hiking and walking trails. Wynn's Way is ideally situated. The location allows you to get anywhere you need to be in 20 minutes - from Downtown Asheville to Sierra Nevada Brewery! This property offers a private retreat, while being close to a myriad of activities designed for fun at every age. Day trips are easy, and coming back to a relaxing private and secluded retreat, or splitting up and letting each enjoy their own preferred type of amusement is super easy with this as a home base.
The two master suites have completely renovated en suite double sink bathrooms, one bedroom has a wonderful view of the pond and there is a bunk room which will hold four, with "under bed" storage and shelving. This home is surrounded by natural beauty on all sides. You walk out the door, and you are in a calm and peaceful space. There is a front deck on the house where you can sit in the early morning and watch the sun come up, enjoy getting some sun during the day, and watch the evening come to the pond.
A multitude of unique restaurants are a five minute drive away, as well as grocery and "big box" stores.

What makes this property unique
Although you are only a quick five minute drive from "civilization", the acreage and lake provides a naturally occurring "wildlife preserve". Because the surrounding properties of with large land holdings,, there is a myriad of wildlife, including Canadian Geese who have come and nested every Spring on their small island for 15+ years. In addition to wild ducks and other birds. Tt is normal to see chickens marching in a line towards their coop, often intermingled with ducks - both domestic and wild. We also host a wild turkey population, who brood and parade their newborns and then young fledglings as time goes by. The foliage is spectacular in any season, but Fall is incredible. Some days you can sit and enjoy the mist coming over the cove, or sit on the deck, with a cup of tea, dawn or dusk, and appreciate the activity taking place below on the water. There is a smaller pond above the lake, which is a nice smaller space to take young children exploring.
In addition, we have a wonderful large fire pit down near and overlooking the lake. There are large, solid chairs as well as a round patio table with four matching chairs at the Fire Pit area. This has been the scene of many family gatherings enjoyed by all ages - including teenagers! It is perfect for S'mores, roasting hot dogs and just hanging out and enjoying the fire by the lake.
There is a nice flat area to play the outdoor games at Wynn's Way. A favorite outdoor game for ALL ages has turned out to be Whiffle Ball, which we bought for youngsters to enjoy! If you happen to be an archer, one of our guests left us an archery target!
A very peaceful experience is to walk the perimeter of the lake. The land is flat to slightly sloped, and it is not a challenging walk. Great for people who want to get outside, but do not choose to take on a rigorous woods or mountain climb.
There is a paved road down by the lake, which will accommodate a large trailer or motor coach.
We have a land line with battery backup.
