What a fun place to stay. We enjoyed the ease of the location and the ability to relax in the hot tub and the living room. Great place to visit with family.
This place was perfect for my family . Plenty of space, great entertainment options and very clean. Chris and Kira were wonderful hosts, and the chickens were so fun. The only wrinkle we had was the fridge was small, so if you plan to stay for more than a couple of days, you may want to bring a cooler for larger items. Will definitely book again.

The suite is in a great location and you can’t find nicer hosts! The hot tub is terrific and quite private, the accommodations are comfortable and very clean. It was a nice place to hang our hats during our visit and we’d love to stay again if we’re back to this area! Thanks again to our hosts.

Perfect place for the four adults & one Great Dane to stop over before a big day at Butchart Gardens. Clean, quiet, great neighborhood for walking our dog and location was not far from local eateries. Beautiful view from backyard area and the owner’s residence landscaping is wonderful with abundant flowering rhododendrons all about. Perfect weather was also a benefit! Thanks for all!

Everything was super wonderful...the suite had comfortable furnishings and was easy to find the location. We did not get to stay and use the hottub or spend the night due to health emergency. Looking forward to another stay in the future.

Having the hot tub was a real treat! Good value for money. Host was very responsive. For our family group it worked great! I personally enjoyed the Original Six NHL collection, especially the Bobby Orr “shrine” (my fav player of all time). Thanks, Chris and Kira!

We are the sweetest couple? If so then you all (with maybe the exception of your Father) were just the cutest group and thanks again as you were a pleasure to host 🙌
Hosts were very helpful and had great communication! A bench press off the kitchen area, boxing gloves, hockey bobble heads what more do teenagers need? I like the bird in the tree that sung to us at dusk, was buzzed by a hummingbird, and awakened by chickens. The host has a whole bunch of different goodies for sale if you have the munchies. The lamps in our bedroom were beautiful but I did find my bed achy. My kids found the other beds to be fine for them. To be fair it took me 3 years to find a bed for home that didn’t make me achey. Would love to have more time on the island as there is so much to explore. My favorite spot is the Butterfly Zoo. Oh and the lovebirds enjoyed the hottub.

So THATS what my neighbors meant when they said they were going to call the police as they thought there was domestic happening 🫣😂🤣 We can see how that mattress may not have been to your comfort as you were only the second people sleeping on it as it is new. Come on back for another stay in a few months and try it out again 😊😉 Thanks for choosing us to host your stay and it means a lot to know everyone had such an enjoyable time 🥳🙌

About the host
Hosted by Kira
Hi! We’re Kira and Chris — a Navy couple who’ve proudly called Vancouver Island home for over 30 years. Originally from Edmonton, AB and Thompson, MB, we’ve created a peaceful hilltop escape that blends comfort with a touch of homestead life.
Over the years, we’ve opened our home to exchange students and Junior A hockey players, and now we love welcoming guests from all over the world. Whether you’re here to relax in the hot tub, explore nearby lakes and trails, or just recharge in nature, we want you to feel at home.
When we’re not tending our chickens, garden, or beehives, you’ll find us enjoying the view from the balcony or cheering on a hockey game (Chris still plays goal and has coached for years!). We also love sharing tips about local eats, scenic spots, and unique experiences — or giving quick garden tours for anyone curious.
Our home was once shared with Penny, our beloved pot-bellied pig who brought so much joy. Though she’s no longer with us, her gentle spirit still lives on here at Hilltop Retreat.
We live upstairs, so we’re close by if you ever need anything — but your privacy and comfort will always come first.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this hilltop location because it offers the perfect balance of peaceful privacy and everyday convenience. Nestled above the treetops, it’s a quiet, safe neighborhood with stunning sunsets, regular visits from deer and eagles, and a feeling of calm that’s hard to find — yet it’s just minutes from trails, lakes, pubs, shopping, and the Bear Mountain golf resort.
After years in the Navy, we were looking for a place to slow down and live more intentionally. This neighborhood gave us the space to grow gardens, raise chickens, keep bees, and build a life that feels rooted — all while staying connected to the community around us.
It’s a spot that makes guests say “Wow” the moment they arrive. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape, a work trip, or something in between, we think you’ll love it as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
Hilltop Retreat isn’t just a place to stay — it’s an experience. Tucked away at the top of a private road, the suite offers incredible peace and privacy with sweeping views, a private hot tub, and a cozy NHL-style media room for relaxing evenings in.
What makes us different is the character and care we’ve put into every detail. Guests love the thoughtful extras — like the home gym, Smart TVs, garden-fresh herbs, dog bed and bowls, and even a margarita maker on request.
We’re also an active urban homestead. Depending on the season, guests can visit the chickens (Salt, Pepper, Shake, and Bake), learn about our bees, or explore the garden beds that fuel our homemade food projects. These experiences often leave a lasting impression — many guests tell us it’s what made their stay truly memorable.
We’ve blended nature, comfort, and creativity into a guest experience that feels both professional and personal. Hilltop Retreat is where you can truly unwind, reconnect, and feel at home.
