We are local and stayed at the Duchess for a month while our primary residence was under construction. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed. It is on a cul de sac at the end of a street, so is quiet and was also nice for our kids to be able to play safely in the front without worrying about cars. The back patio is also super cute. Overall it’s a charming little house, and is very close to all the restaurants and shopping in Old Town.

The residence was clean and in a great location, especially in relation to Old Town Scottsdale.
The home was clean and decorated very well. It made it feel homey and comfortable. We were staying with another couple and we agreed that the biggest drawback was that it was overpriced and there were too many tasks required of us that we haven't experienced in other VRBO rentals. For example, before we left, we were instructed to strip the used beds and place the linens and towels in the laundry room. Also, we were instructed to take all of our trash, including bathrooms and kitchen, to the trash dumpster in the back alley way (half-way down the street) and clear the kitchen and refrigerator of any remaining food, and load all dirty dishes into dishwasher. It was also suggested that we roll the recycling bin to the curb on pick up day. None of these things are a big deal on their own, but when you're traveling, it's a lot to remember and do, especially when we paid a high fee for cleaning--added on when we initially booked the rental. Also, there is no network or cable stations available on the tv. The instructions say you can watch Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon, but we discovered, that is only if you have your own account and login using your own information. For example, because there was no network tv available (all that would be needed is an antenna), we were unable to watch the Oscars.

Mieka,
Thank you for your review, we always appreciate feedback and are always looking to create the best experience possible for our guests. Regarding some of your critical comments, we felt like some perspective / clarity should be provided for future guests. Regarding your comment on the home being overpriced, please keep in mind that you booked during the absolute most expensive time of the year - the weather is perfect, spring training is kicking off, there are all sorts of conferences, events, etc. To put that in perspective, right now, 3/14/2017, there is no availability at hyatt house, hyatt place, or the hyatt regency in Scottsdale. You could still book the hyatt place in Gilbert for $256 per night, but that's 23.7 miles or a 28 minute drive to Old Town Scottsdale. We have seasonal pricing on the Duchess and when demand is stronger, pricing increases. If you stayed at the Duchess in mid April, you'd probably feel that you got an absolute bargain since our non spring training rates are priced very inexpensively due to lower demand. But as it is, you could book a 1 bedroom at the hyatt place in Gilbert, AZ for $256 per night, plus taxes/fees or you could book our single family home that sleeps 8, includes free snacks, coffee, yard games, comfortable beds / furnishings, and is walking distance to Old Town Scottsdale for the current rate of $349 per night. Btw, our rates after spring training ends decrease to $179 per night. Regarding your comments on too many tasks required, we simply aim to keep a very clean, well appointed home, and be good neighbors in our community - we do not believe that taking out your own trash or tidying up the home before your departure is asking too much. We do not expect guests to clean or make beds, or take out someone else's trash, we're simply asking guests to be respectful of the home and not leave a huge mess for our cleaning service. We also provide our rental agreement at the time of booking, so if you had any issues with the rental agreement, perhaps we could have resolved that up front (we try to be flexible and accommodating to our guests). After your departure, we discovered that the wifi router needed to be restarted - I believe this is why you had issues accessing hulu, amazon, or the configured cable stations - if we would have known this was an issue for you, we would have taken care of that for you asap. But for future guests, you do have access to our amazon, hulu accounts / numerous channels
We thoroughly enjoyed The Duchess for our month-long stay in Scottsdale. Within walking distance to Old Town and the weekly farmers’ market, this property has easy access to 2 canal trails for biking or walking, and is near tennis courts, drug stores, and groceries. The house was as promised on a quiet cup de sac, spacious and comfortably furnished with all we needed. The patio area (with barbecue) was peaceful with daily visits from quail, doves, etc. Scottsdale itself was casual and relaxed, with lots to see and do. We had a great time.
This place has potential. Its decorated cute; and was fairly clean. That said, the dishwasher appears to not work (water does not go into machine). The refrigerator door needs repair. Ice maker doesn't work. The hall bathroom tub doesn't drain well. The faucets in the hall bath drip. The shower in master doesn't appear to work properly. Shower water temp sometimes impossible to regulate. Scalding hit water. Welcome packet says 2 rolls of TP in each bathroom. That was not the case. The welcome package indicated a take one leave one idea bottle of wine. There was no wine. The pictures on VRBO showed cornhole in the backyard. We were looking forward to that. No corn hole. The mailbox on front door is hanging open appears to be broken
We did have plenty of clean linens and towels.

Wish you had contacted us about your issues - would have made a point to get this things fixed asap. We contacted the appliance repair company and they are replacing the dishwasher pump motor and ordered some minor parts to for the fridge and icemaker - which should be repaired within the next week or so. The bathroom faucet did have a drip and that has now been replaced. I personally checked the master shower and it works fine - believe the previous guest may have had some operator error in pulling out the shower trim and turning it the correct direction to hot. Couldn't replicate any variability issues with the water temperature, but did follow up on that matter and functionally test. Unfortunately, the take one leave one policy is not followed by some guests - like socialism / communism - the notion is well intended, but in practice, it falls apart. I can't confirm or deny that the guest didn't have 2 rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom at their check in, but there is ample supply of toilet paper in the laundry room. Our apologies regarding the cornhole game, the AZ summer heat warped and deteriorated the boards - they were thrown out and it's our fault for not replacing - again, our apologies on that.
Small scale property, but still there was everything we needed. Positives: location and three solid bedrooms. Two slight negatives: kitchen a little tight for family cooking and backyard needs heat lamp/better lighting.
This property was a very comfortable place to stay. Especially the bed and pillows! The kitchen was well outfitted with everything we needed. It is located in a safe and very quiet neighborhood.
I would highly recommend this home as a place to stay.
We were happy to have found such a centrally located home for a last minute trip to Arizona (from Boston). It's obvious that care has gone into the property's decor, as well as bedding and towels, which were clean and comfortable. The house is located at the end of a cul-du-sac, so there is minimal street traffic (although some noise from a busy road abutting the street).
Owners were responsive to a few (hopefully exceptional) issues, and there were a few other areas needing some TLC or pre-occupancy checks (e.g., missing lightbulbs and nonfunctional lights in bathroom and bedroom, broken toilet paper holder, etc.). There is some underlying wear and tear to the house that might only be noticed by or matter to more discerning (?) guests.
Walking distance to Old Town Scottsdale was great, and the house is a straightforward, turnkey location for a comfortable stay and easy access to both Phoenix and surrounding sights/activities.

We LOVED "The Duchess"!
We were presently surprised when we walked in the front door. The pictures don't do justice for this home! 5 women stayed for two nights: Here are some of the comments I received:
~The pictures on VRBO do not convey how nice this house is. It is comfortable, clean and welcoming
~Opening the door was a pleasant surprise. Clean, nice and little touches everywhere. Very Nice!
~Very nice and clean. Perfect!
~The only negative to offer is that there were not enough face cloths.
Thank you to Christine and Jason. You have a wonderful home and we would love to come back again... We all live local to Scottsdale. This made the perfect weekend getaway to celebrate a birthday!

Quaint comfy home and location was perfect for us. Close to Old Scottsdale & road biking trails
The Duchess was perfect for what we needed as we were out at our sons baseball tournament so not home much.
The beds were extremely comfortable the house was very clean and everything worked great. Not a large home so easy to clean up at the end. I was glad the younger kids could figure out the TV and how that worked. All appliances appeared brand new so was able to cook many of our meals easily. The only thing I might suggest is to have more then one paring knife so more people can cut up veggies at the same time. We also contributed a couple more cookies trays so we could make a full meal of chicken wings at one time. 🤗 I loved the location as we brought our road bikes and tonnes of trails to choose from with easy access. Also could walk to shops and restaurants within 10 minutes. Also the dockless bike rentals in the Scottsdale area makes it easy to travel further and everyone can ride. We used the Lime Bikes and the app is simple and shows you where the bikes are parked.
The only disadvantage was there isn't a pool for the kids but for us it wasn't a necessity. I would definitely recommend and choose this location again. Thank you for making your home available for others to enjoy!

Great location and charming house - beds and furnishings are comfortable and aesthetically pleasing!
We enjoyed our stay- only a few suggestions for future.
More dinner plates (we borrowed some in order to have enough)
At least a couple of comfortable chairs for sitting and reading outside.
Some sort of small shelf for the master bath to hold cosmetics etc- surface space is so limited.

Perfect!
Staying at the Duchess made our recent visit to Scottsdale such a pleasure. The home is so cute, has so many amenities and is so comfortable. So near the heart of Old Town, this location is convenient to many attractions. The owners were extremely responsive during the booking process and texted us upon arrival to let us know of their availability should we have any issues. What a great stay! Thank you!
