About this property
Cycling/Beaches/Dining: Best of Costa Brava. Chic Stone "Castle"
in Village A/C
Roomy, modernized, stylish "castle" with tower and air conditioning in a medieval village 25 minutes from the best Costa Brava beaches. Ideal for weekenders or vacationing families, cycling groups, golfers, history buffs, and foodies. Dining/cycling/cultural sites nearby. 1 1/2 h from Barcelona with updated kitchen, bathrooms and heating system. Large communal spaces for dining and relaxing, with an outdoor terrace and garden. The house accommodates 10 guests. A bonus apartment next door is available for up to 4 additional guests for a surcharge if available. Next to (1 mile from) La Bisbal in a tiny medieval village with lush scenery, best beaches (19.5 km/12 miles away/24 minutes), renowned golf courses, quiet village living.
With 4 bedrooms plus bonus dormitory room/family room with an adjoining deck looking out on the countryside. Comfortably sleeps 10. It has four baths, and a newly remodeled, modern kitchen. It also has a large stone vaulted dining room off the kitchen. It has a spectacular view from the town's original 13th century watch tower and inviting terrace. Spacious and quiet enough for yoga practitioners, insulated enough for boisterous parties, and medieval enough that many of our young guests have called it "Hogwarts." There is an additional stone cottage adjoining to accommodate groups of 13 for a surcharge.
This home is perfect for the budget conscious traveler or group who enjoys authenticity and village life, but proximity to world class dining, beaches and cultural offerings.
For the more active traveler, Girona is a center for cycling, both road and mountain. Hiking trails have been well developed in the area. There is world class golfing in Pals. The house and area are ideal for any time of year, since there is radiant heat in the home and the year round beauty of the country side. We've had guests stay for a weekend, weeks, or even months. IDEAL FOR A BARCELONA DWELLER or family to escape the city for the quiet to work, hike, relax, and regroup. Can Torre is also an ideal home base for other European travel, since it is close to the French Border and 20 to the Girona airport which has cheap flights to destinations all over Europe.

About the host
Hosted by Kristen Sparrow
We're a San Francisco family. Two of our (grown) children live in town and are making a go of it, while one is in Los Angeles on the road to stardom. Kevin is from DC, Kristen from Berkeley. We lived in Spain during a boom time in Spain from 1995 to1998. We were so lucky to have lived in Barcelona. It is the best of the best, though, or course that might hurt San Francisco's feelings. But Barcelona has the size, history, and depth that warrants the accolades.
Why they chose this property
We bought this house at the tail end of a 3 year stay in Barcelona in 1998. Against all the naysayers in Spain , we managed to refurbish and renovate the house and have used it ever since. The old stone houses never lose their charm and resilience. We've had family to the tune of 17 strong in the house, and it didn't even wince, nor did the town. And the beaches, the countryside and the medieval towns are what bring us back. We never get tired of it.
What makes this property unique
The thing about this house/village/Costa Brava is the peaceful beauty, the range of beaches, and yet world class amenities in a country environment. This is why the cognoscenti from all over Europe come to the Alt and Baix Empordan.
