We wanted a place that was secluded from sight and sound of others and this was it. Cabin has a large deck where we spent a lot of time just drinking coffee and admiring the views. Inside is very comfortable--kitchen was well equipped (there was even a milk steamer!) and the living area inviting with a fireplace and plenty of wood. The beds were comfortable, and the entire place very well cleaned and maintained. There is a grocery store in Fairplay so we were able to stock up on our way in. The host was responsive and his directions to the cabin were detailed and helpful. We'll definitely return.
Just 90 miles from Denver to Fairplay, Colorado and a very relaxing getaway. We enjoyed two nights of sitting on the deck with a glasses of wine and quiet Vistas. Side trips up 4 Mile Creek leads to hikes, old mines, wildlife and great mountain views. Stop in at the South Park Ranger Station in Fairplay for great into info before doing 4 Mile Creek.. We'll be going back!
Our family of four loved this cabin. It had everything we needed, including washer & dryer, complete kitchen, outdoor grill, wifi, TV screen. Everything clean.
Location was good - one trailhead was only 1 mile away, and many others were 15-30 minute drive. However, it is on a gravel road that is bumpy - we were glad we had a rental SUV. About 4 miles on gravel roads to the nearest paved roads.

Nice, but might be time to put a little TLC into the place.
The outdoor deck and furniture could use some love. The upstairs mattress needs to go... Also, some humming bird feeders would be welcome, as you relax on the deck. A relaxing place, easy to rent and stay at, no problems.

Both mattresses were replaced 3 months ago, they are brand new. Our cabin is at 11,000 feet, winters are harsh - we had 400% of normal snow pack. As a result, all deck furniture is either made of coated steel or pressurized wood. I am not sure what you mean by the cabin needing TLC - we keep it in pristine condition - as evidenced by 30 previous reviews. I don't really know what to say about our lack of hummingbird feeders other than we prefer to keep our hummingbirds alive. The problem is, if you do not change the high sugar content solution frequently - the solution becomes toxic ... and you end up killing them. I supposed we cannot make everyone happy.
A nice weekend getaway from Denver. Did snowshoeing/hiking off of Hoosier Pass, Colorado Trail, and others. The cabin is very warm and comfortable even in very cold temperatures. A great place to photograph the night skies. It's so dark, if you turn the lights off in the cabin at night, you can not see your hand in front of your face. You can even hear coyotes and mountain lions at night
A fun place.
Picture Perfect in Paradise - A Colorful Aspen Adventure!
My husband and I went to stay near our son in Fairplay, CO. This spot was absolutely perfect! Super close to town, yet dropped in the middle of Beaver Creek National Forest in Park County, CO. Quiet, nature at its best! The cabin was delightful. Just what you need to feel cozy and warm. Had the elegant, rustic decor, which I personally love. Deck was wonderful for stargazing and watching wildlife — Mama Moose came by with her two BIG babies:).
All in all, a terrific stay! Definitely booking again ...
PS Owners were fantastic to work with. LOVE FRANK! Responsive and personable — perfect combo, too.

Amazing Location; Great Host
Frank and this cabin receive full marks. Frank was easy to communicate with while planning and booking this location. It was a surprise for my girlfriend's birthday, so I needed to to be flawless. Working with Frank, he made booking easy and even gave directions to some nearby hiking. (The hiking trail is out the backdoor, actually...) He also surprised us with a bottle of bubbly when we arrived (I can't promise he does this for every guest, but he knew it was a surprise birthday and took it upon himself.)
The cabin itself is great. The kitchen is large to prepare meals, beds and baths are large and comfortable. The best part is the back deck, that looks down the valley. You won't need TV or internet with this serenity of this back deck. I think I saw a total of three vehicles the entire weekend we were there. It was so relaxing.
Great place. 5 Stars. Thanks!

A Peaceful Stay
We had a great time of meditation in God’s Word, breaking of bread and and prayer. Other than the
Place not being clean we made that house a sanctuary for God!
House was very cute and located in a great area. Lots of hiking close by, including some trails that are about a 5 minute walk from the house. We saw a brown bear walk past the living room window our first night there!
Great Location, The moose family was in the yard more than once. Cow and 2 calves and a yearling bull.. Elk bugling in the valley right across the road. The sound of coyotes nearby. Thank You Frank we would very likely stay here again.
Frank was friendly and easy to work with. The cabin was comfortable, well furnished and in a great location for hikers like us. We loved it and would definitely stay again!
This was a great location for our trip to CO! It was secluded enough to enjoy our nights and close enough for hiking! I would highly recommend this cabin!
Property was minutes from Fairplay if you needed anything but you felt away from it all and as if you had the mountain to yourself. The wrap around porch was perfect anytime of day for reading or socializing.. Homeowner was so helpful with nearby hiking trails and very responsive. I would definitely recommend and hope to go back someday!
We always enjoy our annual tradition of taking a Thanksgiving retreat and Frank’s cabin was a great choice this year. The view is beautiful and the surroundings so incredibly peaceful and quiet. Very good for the soul in 2020! The stars were magnificent and we were treated to a choir of coyotes one night. The fireplace made for cozy evenings. The nearby Beaver Trail was within a 7 minute walking distance from the house and even in snow made for a nice hike, as it was maintained. Communication with the owner was great. Thank you Frank!
This property is near several great hiking and exploring areas. We hiked the beaver Creek Trail and explored the surrounding area looking for wildlife. We went up and hiked Hoosier Pass and enjoy the views.
Cozy Mountain Escape Yet Close to Civilization if Needed
THIS is exactly what I had in mind for our CO mountain retreat. Tucked away from it all, quiet, every necessity available, nearby grocery store, restaurants, and Breckenridge if you want to leave. It is up there in altitude at 10,500'. Our young family had an incredible time just relaxing and getting back to the simple life. Grateful to have a washer/dryer available, comfortable beds, and amazing outdoor, quiet experiences. I'm disappointed that I cannot rate this higher! Host was informative, kind, and patient with all of my inquiries. Only downside was not staying longer. Highly recommend!
This is a great, clean place to get away from it all for a few days, but there is also internet and satellite TV if you need it! The deck is a great place to drink your morning coffee before walking down the road to the beautiful national forest trail to hike for a few miles. It's also a relatively quick, gorgeous drive into Breckenridge (the drive into Fairplay is also gorgeous). We highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. If you're looking to get away from city madness, this is the place to be. You can barely see your neighbors, and the property has lots of open space to sled, hike, explore or just have privacy when relaxing outside. There was plenty of space indoors for the 4 of us to either relax or our 3 & 4 year old to play games. Frank has toys, card games and board games to keep everyone entertained. It was easy to communicate with Frank and he made sure that we had everything that we needed during our stay. There's plenty of kitchen utensils and spices etc for making lunches and diners easy to cook at home. We'll definitely be staying again.
We had a wonderful time staying at Franks cabin. Frank was always available and quick to respond when we needed to contact him. His property is just far enough away from town that you have peace and quiet but still just a quick drive into town. The cabin was clean and perfect for our group of 6. I would definitely recommend this cabin.

About the host

My wife Amy and I have two children, Mia (16) and Margo (14). We moved to Denver from Chicago in 2001, but are originally from Minnesota and Pennsylvania (respectively).
Why they chose this property
When we come to the mountains, we like to get away. We chose Fairplay because can get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life - yet we're less than 30 minutes from skiing in Breckenridge.
What makes this property unique
Private, secluded location. Close to skiing, fly fishing and hiking. Barn has two stables, corral and water troughs if you have horse and would like to bring them to the cabin.
