Welcome to The Downs Ryokan, an architecturally designed villa inspired by Japan, where guests enjoy their own oasis whilst being conveniently located to shops, restaurants, and the beach! Nestled down below street level, this villa 2 storey sleeps up to 4 with cooks kitchen, private outdoor space & high speed internet and office area for WFH also makes this place popular with both families or business travellers, staycations or overseas visitor- longer term pricing negotiated on request. A dedicated driveway and carpark space are provided. There are stairs leading down to the accommodation, making it secluded and private.

Fabulous gem!

Great place in a great location! Perfect size to relax and great kitchen if you are keen to cook. IGA across the road has great food and not far to beach and cafes. Hosts were very friendly and check in and out was easy. We stayed for a sporting event and would highly recommend and stay again if we are back in Perth!! Thankyou

Our family stayed in the property for 10 weeks, it was fantastic, tremendous location about a mile from the beach, with a grocery store right across the street. Great community, our kids went to the nearby school and loved it. Transit is nearby, my wife commuted to the CBD every day. The apartment was everything we needed, very nicely done on the inside, and there is a decent amount of space, with some great outdoor space as well. Overall we couldn't have been happier.

Fantastic location

We stayed for roughly eight weeks at the start of 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The property is well equipped, with everything we needed. For the majority of the time there was just two of us but for three weeks we had friends visit and with a bedroom, shower and toilet for each couple there was amble room. Jacqui and Peter were not intrusive but always on hand if we needed them. We found the location for us ideal, on the weeks when we didn’t rent a car we could walk to Scarborough Beach, we purchased pushbikes and cycled to local attractions (albeit Wembley Downs is hilly in places). An Uber to Elizabeth Quay was only a few dollars and we also rented bikes whilst there and cycled around the Swan River (the Perth cycle path infrastructure is fantastic). We also played golf at the local courses, which for public facilities were excellent and again, only a few dollars in an Uber. We’d have no hesitation in recommending the property.

Simply outstanding

Jacqui has been a fabulous host. All queries were answered in a timely manner. My family and I have loved staying here, so much so we extended our stay twice! The unit was spotless and modern. Everything you would need for a short or long stay has been considered. Location is awesome, local shops a 2 minute walk and public transport a 5 minute walk which takes you directly into the city. Walk to the beach and Karrinyup and Innaloo (major shopping complex’s) are a quick drive away. The only thing to mention is that guests with mobility needs would find the property tricky to access as there are a number of stairs to enter and exit the property. Overall this is an outstanding property and I would highly recommend it! I would definitely stay here again.

We have been hosting since 2019, when my husband, a builder, and I, an interior architect, completed our dream villa project. Since then, it has been a wonderful experience watching our guests, both long- and short-term, enjoy holidaying and living in this quiet oasis in designer luxury, a short work to the shops and short drive to our many wonderful beaches.

Why they chose this property

Wembely Downs is nestled between City Beach and Scarbough - both famous for their beaches. Wembley Downs is a hilly western suburb characterised by its many mature trees, making it a sought-after place to live and a great base for holidaymakers to enjoy Perth beaches, restaurants and nightlife attractions that surround the area.

What makes this property unique

Guests always return to our property as it is a very stylish, quality-built, architecturally designed, standalone house with many unique features, including fully operable full-height glazed doors that open the house into the garden when the weather is fine, which is often. The finishes and lighting have been hand-picked by me, an interior designer with 30 years of experience. Guests most often comment that it feels like a beautiful home away from home and is deeply relaxing and tranquil. The best compliment I can have as this was our design intention.
