About this property

Applegarth Cottage, Hampton

Welcome to Applegarth, a peaceful and relaxing cottage down a quiet country lane. Only 2 hours from Sydney and just 30 minutes past Mount Victoria.

Surrounded by beautiful green fields in a secluded valley, Applegarth is perfect for escaping from the city. Our cottage is ideal as a base to explore Jenolan Caves, Lake Lyell, the Blue Mountains, quaint country towns such as Rydal, Hartley and Tarana and all that Oberon, Bathurst and Lithgow have to offer.

Located in Hampton, a rural village halfway between Oberon and Mount Victoria on the western edge of the Blue Mountains, Applegarth is a welcoming home surrounded by picturesque fields, native and farm animals and babbling brooks. Comfortably furnished with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and sleeping up to 6, Applegarth has beautiful rural views. Spend your time here exploring the creek at the bottom of the garden or star gazing while sitting around the outdoor fireplace.

The cottage includes a fully equipped country kitchen, a cosy indoor wood fireplace, air conditioning for the summer, an outdoor chiminea for the colder months and a tranquil brook flowing through the bottom of the garden. The north facing timber verandah will allow you to while away the hours and enjoy the expansive views over the nearby fields and mountains. Alternatively, have breakfast or drinks on the rear deck and just enjoy the sunshine and wide open skies.

Applegarth has 2 bedrooms (the master bedroom contains a queen bed and the second bedroom contains a triple bunk (a double below and a single on top) and a single bed. All beds have super comfortable mattresses, electric blankets and quality linen.

We have made sure that the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay: cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, lots of pots and pans, serving platters, wine glasses (including champagne flutes!), cheese boards and cheese knives, a 42 inch smart TV, a quality sound system (Bluetooth and digital/FM radio), bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets and quilts), throws for snuggling on the lounge, books, games and DVDs, towels, tea towels, a gas BBQ, a picnic basket and firewood.

We often get snow in winter. This is the perfect opportunity to make a snowman, cosy up by the fire and read a good book or play the board games we keep at the cottage. Enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee and watch the mountain mist or snow flurries roll in through the valley. On warmer days, the area has so much to offer including:

- the stunning Jenolan Caves (only 50 minutes away) or Glow worm tunnels at Newnes (1 hour)
- picnics, birdwatching, mountain biking, horse riding and hiking in the nearby national parks and state forests
- many world class cold climate gardens such as Mayfield and Hillandale
- fishing in nearby rivers or Lake Oberon and water sports at Lake Lyell
- foraging for wild mushrooms in nearby pine forests in April and May (Hampton State pine forest is just at the end of our road!)
- truffle hunting followed by a decadent degustation lunch in July and August
- a visit to the Japanese bath house for full body and mind relaxation
- use as a base for weddings at Seclusions or Waldara Farm
- wine tasting around Oberon and Bathurst or further afield at Orange or Mudgee
- local Farmers Markets – Oberon (first Saturday of the month) and Tarana (fourth Sunday of the month)
- enjoy a country pub lunch or dinner at the Hampton Halfway Pub (3 mins), the Rydal Pub (25 mins) the Tarana Pub (35mins) or head into Oberon or Lithgow townships for great cafes and restaurants.

Applegarth offers you the opportunity to relax and unwind, enjoy nature and connect fully with your friends and family.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

After booking you must complete our secure online check-in which comprises signing our rental agreement and uploading a copy of your Drivers License.

We may be available for 1 night bookings mid-week and on some occasions when a Friday or Saturday night is available. The calendar will be updated regularly. A three night minimum applies for long weekend and public holidays.

There is NO MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION at the cottage although good 4G access is available at the start of the road (2km from the cottage). We do provide satellite WiFi for our guests (so you can use imessage/whatsapp/messenger/Airbnb app to communicate) but it can be a bit unreliable in bad weather.

Our house runs on rain water only, so thank you for being mindful of water usage. You may want to bring your own drinking water if you do not wish to drink rain water.

We supply you with firewood, kindling and firestarters for your stay. There is a washing machine, clothes dryer, iron, ironing board and hair dryer available for your convenience.

The cottage is located two kilometres down an unsealed road but is perfectly accessible for a 2WD car.

The nearest grocery stores and petrol stations to Hampton are a 30 minute drive away in either Oberon, Mount Victoria or Lithgow so we recommend coming well stocked up with with groceries and fuel.

The Blue Mountains / Lithgow / Oberon/Bathurst area has a lot to offer in the way of sightseeing and local interest spots. We have included a folder of places to see and things to do including local restaurants and places of interest.

GETTING AROUND

The closest public transport is a train from either Lithgow or Mt Victoria (30 mins away). A car is really necessary to enjoy the area and all it has to offer without having to rely on public transport which is very limited.

We love to travel and see new sights and places. We like skiing, hiking and having the odd weekend in the country away from our busy jobs. We love to cook up a storm and spend precious time with those we love. We especially love sitting around a fire, drinking a good red and sharing stories with with close friends and family.

Applegarth Cottage is a very special home to us and we love relaxing in our magical secluded valley. We look forward to sharing our piece of country life with you and hearing from you about your stay.
