Guest access Check-in is fast and easy using our smart lock. Our official check-in time is 4pm, but we can often offer earlier access as soon as cleaning is finished. Just ask and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We cannot usually accommodate late checkouts due to tight cleaning schedules.
You'll have the entire property to yourself — there are no hosts on-site and no spaces shared with anyone outside your group. There is free off-street parking for two vehicles on our parking deck at street level.
Access to the front door is via a short flight of stairs from the parking area, and there are also a few stairs from the hallway to the living area.
Safe street parking is available for additional vehicles if required. Please let us know if you'll be bringing more than two cars.
Cass Bay beach is an easy walk down the hill. A shortcut between numbers 1 and 3 Mariners Cove gets you to the beach in less than five minutes.
While there are some buses on the peninsula, we recommend having your own vehicle to explore the area and make the most of your stay.
Bedding for the sofa bed is kept in the cupboard under the TV.
Other things to note ♨️ Spa / BBQ Guests are welcome to enjoy the spa pool and BBQ. Please follow the house guidelines to keep everything clean and enjoyable for everyone. • BBQ: Wipe down surfaces or wash the grills. Coals can go in the rubbish once completely cooled. • Spa: Please check your feet for sand, pebbles or grass before getting in. The spa lid must be lifted carefully and kept in the holder while the spa is in use. Please ensure the lid is always replaced when the spa is not being used. Extra cleaning fees may apply if the spa or BBQ are left excessively dirty (minimum $50 for BBQ, $200 for spa).
🐾 Pets We love animals, but due to host allergies we’re unable to accommodate pets — this includes assistance animals. Thank you for understanding.
🎥 Security For your peace of mind, there’s a single outdoor camera overlooking the parking area. It’s not actively monitored, but recordings can be reviewed if ever needed. There are no cameras inside the house.
🧦 Comfort Tip The house features modern tile and wood floors — stylish and easy-care, but they can feel a little cool on your feet in winter. We recommend packing socks or slippers to stay cozy during your stay.
🛒 Local Area Cass Bay is a peaceful seaside community with no shops or restaurants, so we suggest stopping in Christchurch for supplies on your way. Nearby Lyttelton (just 4 minutes away) has a small supermarket for essentials, plus great cafes, bars and restaurants. Don’t miss the Saturday farmers’ market if you’re here for the weekend!
🔥 Gas Supply The house runs on bottled gas. If it ever runs out during your stay, simply switch to the full bottle (instructions are provided at the house). Once you’ve switched it, please let us know so we can arrange a refill. 💡 Tip: If your cooktop still works, the gas hasn’t run out yet — no need to change bottles!
🔐 Smart Lock You’ll receive a unique code for the front door before check-in. The door locks automatically after a short delay, so you don’t need to lock it manually during your stay.
🧺 Laundry Please feel free to use the washer/dryer in the laundry space off the main hallway. There is also a second dryer in the master bedroom cupboard for our cleaner's use only- please don’t use this one during your stay.
🗑️ Rubbish & Recycling Cass Bay has limited bin collection (fortnightly), so we really appreciate your help keeping things tidy. Please use the bins on the parking deck: * Yellow bins: Recycling (paper, plastic, glass, cans) * Red bin: General waste
There are two yellow bins — please fill the first before using the second. Feel free to use the bins for rubbish from your stay, but we kindly ask that you don’t dispose of excess waste brought from elsewhere, as space is limited. Additional charges may apply if excessive rubbish is left behind to cover disposal costs.
Sorting your recycling helps keep the red bin free for general waste — thank you!

This is a beautiful home with stunning views. Well appointed kitchen for cooking. The host communicated with us extremely well and were friendly and very helpful to us. The local guide book they created helped us on some of our adventures. We highly recommend this place would definitely stay here again!
We had such a great getaway for our group of friends, such a Beautiful location and a beautiful Sunny property. Thankyou so much for providing a great house to getaway to.
The house is in a beautiful location with excellent views, and was extremely well presented throughout. As it's a little far from shops, you'll want a car although there is a bus service that passes very close by. We really enjoyed our stay.
We had an awesome time at Cass Bay, the place is amazing and we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Lyttelton!
Thanks Nikki & Chris!
Lovely clean house with some lovely little extras - nice views of the bay whilst having your coffee on the sunny morning deck..
well worth a stay of you are in the area :).
thanks Nikki and Chris !
We loved out stay on Cass Bay! The house was well appointed for our needs and even had an amazing cappuccino machine. The views were amazing and there was great hiking nearby. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. Thanks Nikki and Chris!
The location was great for our trips into and around Christchurch. The home has every amenity you'd want or need. It's very roomy, clean, comfortable, and quiet, with a nice view of Cass Bay. Perfect for friends traveling together. Highly recommend.
A beautiful home in a stunning location with comfy beds, great showers and a fantastic living/dining area. We could not fault our stay, and Nikki and Chris were such accommodating and helpful hosts. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed the area, wonderful location great hiking trails overlooking the bay. It was like having teo master bedrooms as one of other bedrooms was at the opposite end of hall with a bathroom.. After each day’s adventure we enjoyed the outdoor deck. It was peaceful and beautiful great host that was very accommodating
Mariners Lookout was everything it promised. We had a very comfortable 3 night stay at this well appointed, comfortable, clean property located in a beautiful area. There was nothing missing and our communication with Chris and Nikki was very friendly and accommodating.
The coastal walk to Lyttleton is beautiful.
We would very happily return to Mariners Loookout for another stay.
As soon as walked through the door, we knew this home was special. Nikki and Chris have thought of everything from a welcome message , cozy slippers , bath bombs and wonderful supplies for coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The view is spectacular and we were able to enjoy morning coffee on the cozy deck furniture as we watched the sun burn off the morning dew. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us
Our daughter, who lives in NZ, was in a serious motor vehicle accident and so we flew down on very short notice and we were so lucky to have Nikki and Chris's house available for 8 days. It was the perfect place for her to rest and recuperate and for us to meet and spend time with her friends. Beautiful views and deck and so close to Lyttleton yet in a much more serene bay, next door. Lovely hikes along the sea coast. Very beautiful, peaceful, inviting, warm home. Nikki and Chris were great and very responsive. Would highly recommend this home.
This home was personally built and designed by the owners with high end finishes, design elements with a stunning kitchen and living room with two very nice bathrooms and side covered porch and three bedrooms.
A foreground decididuous tree does obscure your center view at perhaps except in winter but the bay is especially viewable from porch and kitchen and one of the bedrooms.
The parking area is private for this property and sits just above it's roofline.
We highly recommend this property.
Such a wonderful place! The views are amazing and the home has everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. I loved hearing the bell bird in the morning while admiring the view with a cup of coffee! I was worried about taking my elderly parents away over July but the house is lovely and warm. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful place and for responding to my messages so quickly. We had a wonderful stay.
Wow this hidden gem is the perfect getaway from the city. Just a short 15 minute drive from Christchurch and I was transported to a small unique community overlooking the sea and surrounded by green hills and interesting cliff tops. The house itself is warm, super clean and had everything we needed. The hosts are so considerate and it's definitely the best bnb experience we've ever had. Communication with Nikki & Chris was very easy and they were very friendly, answering any questions we had about the local area and even city. The local shop is in a quirky town 5 minutes drive away which was super convenient. Can't wait to stay here again but for longer next time!
