We enjoyed our stay at the cabin very much! We especially loved the outdoor space. We brought our portable propane firepit and enjoyed playing horse shoes and just sitting under the large trees having conversation and cocktails. The location to the Village is awesome to bike or hike to. The front patio was awesome for morning coffee and afternoon drinks while enjoying the view. The back deck was super zen while swinging and listening to the creek and the birds. The interior is a little dark for our taste, but the vaulted master makes up for it with the volume and light. We had a great trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Lisa, Thanks so much for your review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Cuchara is a very special place and we work hard to make sure our guests are satisfied with their stay. We agree that the creekside area offers a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and it has been a special treat to have our guests be able to use the firepit area this summer. Thanks again and we hope to see you again soon.

Cozy Cabin and Great Management

We had a great time and the management was very accommodating. The area had a power outage due to the storm and phone lines were a challenge. The management ensured we were taken care of through the situation. The creek in the back of the cabin is serene and the wildlife viewing from the cabin was a plus!

From the Owner: "Diana, thanks for your positive review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. The house is a very peaceful place, and the wildlife in the area is an added plus for us, as well. We were more than happy to work with you during the power outage (luckily, a rare occurrence). We hope you will visit us again soon."

The home was private and the location was superb. The beds were terrible, sorry, and the house is very dark, except for the upstairs, which we didn't use because my Mom is elderly and couldn't climb up the stairs and into the tall bed. All it needs is a ceiling light in the living room and brighter lights in the kitchen some extra light bulbs would have been good to have. There were spiderwebs and flying insects in and out of the house, which is reasonable for the creekside location, and we found sprays under the sink to ward them off. We enjoyed our stay because of the surroundings, but we wasre happy when it was time to move on, too. There is no place to empty the trash we had to take with us. We finally found a gas station dumpster in LaVeta to dump it in.

From the owner:"Thank you for your thoughtful review. We have had an unusually high amount of rain this summer, making everything beautiful and lowering the fire danger but the insects love it as well. We continue to deal with it both inside and outside the house. The upstairs bed is a custom made, hand carved bed from New Mexico and there is a step stool available to access it. It is very comfortable. We have overhead lighting in the kitchen and dining room to compensate for the low ceilings and multiple floor lamps in the family room to enhance the lighting. The upstairs has vaulted ceilings and passive solar lighting and is a very exceptional open space. We have replaced the mattresses downstairs to address the comfort issue. We cannot offer trash services due to bears in the area but if you give us a call, we are willing to help dispose of the trash. We are glad you enjoyed the area. It is a beautiful location."

What an idyllic setting with the babbling creek right off the back deck and robber jays and cottontail rabbits entertaining us in the front yard. The generous spirit of the homeowner is apparent with the variety of groceries they have stocked the kitchen with. The furnishings are a bit well loved with the linens being stained and threadbare and some of the furniture is a bit impractical, with the bed pictured pushed against a wall and very high off the ground. However, the setting is beautiful and very near a couple of trailheads and Cuchara shopping.

The creek by far is the best asset for the property. Needs cleaning supplies dish cloths, needs a way to get rid of trash, had to take trash home as to not attract bears. Master bed needs a low profile box spring but was comfortable once you got in. Ceiling fan in master needs dusted. Need wash cloths in showers. The grill was nice need a grill brush to clean it when finished using it. Rustic but that’s ok.

Owner’s Response: “Hi Robert, thank you for staying with us. There are dish towels in the kitchen drawers, and each bathroom is supplied with a complete array of linen, including wash cloths. We will add a steel brush for the outside grill and we always work with guests to provide trash removal. We will also look into supplying a step stool for the upstairs bed, however, it is a custom-built queen bed with a custom mattress and box spring that is very comfortable. We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have a wonderful stay!”

Please1. replace towels - at least the ones with permanent stains and holes2. try to resolve the musty/mildewy smell - it is overwhelming3. the upstairs bed is much too high to be safe - none of us could get up or down and therefore did not use that bed4.the food in the frig needs to be removed - the doors were full of partial containers from previous occupants5. the comforters in the twin beds bedroom need to be washed - they do not smell clean6. the coffee pot was VERY dirty7. take out the trash - WHERE???8. unplug ALL the appliances - even the frig and the microwaveWe would say that the photos of this property give a different impression than the reality. The pictures show a bright and airy interior whereas the reality is that the interior is dark and musty. This property was, for us, adequate because it was close to the rest of our family.

False advertising

Upon arrival, floors were dirty and cobwebs full of gnats were found in several places in the kitchen. Personal items like family photos, junk drawer posessions, and old food in the fridge were there. Living room furniture was uncomfortable and space was overall tight and awkward. Beautiful scenery outside, but back yard furniture is a little dilapidated and junky. Downstairs bathroom is impossible to get ready in. Upstairs toilet doesn't flush well, and faucet handles full off. There's a nice swing on the back porch, but it was build too close to a post to swing on it unfortunately. Not a terrible stay, but definitely didn't meet expectations.

Hi Ginger, we passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following: We strive to ensure that our guests have an exceptional experience with us and provide elevated levels of hospitality. Thank you for sharing your positive insight on the beautiful scenery! We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. - We consistently strive to ensure our cabin is meticulously cleaned before each guest's arrival. Our trusted cleaning company follows the same standards prior to your stay. This season, we've experienced an unusual and excessive amount of rain, which may have contributed to the presence of cobwebs. - As we value guest satisfaction, it's reflected in the positive feedback that many previous guests left about. They enjoyed the inviting and comfortable amenities found throughout our cabin and accurately advertised in the photos of our listing. Our cabin maintains a vintage charm and, while older in style, is clean and well-maintained. In addition, our photos feature spacious living areas, including the kitchen, dining room, family room, and upstairs bedroom/bathroom, all providing ample room for comfortable living. - In regards to the personal belongings, there are two small personal pictures placed on a bookshelf, and it's disheartening if anyone finds them offensive. This is our cabin, which we occasionally use, and we make sure to remove all personal items upon departure. - There is a designated kitchen drawer stocked with batteries, phone chargers, and other items that can be handy for guests during their stay. We make an effort to tidy it up after each guest's departure, though it may occasionally appear disorganized. - To ensure efficiency, we repaired the upstairs bathroom sink hardware and evaluated the custom carved seat swing on the back deck. We found that it swings fine as long as it is used as designed. We truly do our very best to deliver an exceptional experience, and we are confident that future guests will have excellent stays.

QUEEN, FULL AND TWIN BEDS. OLD. DARK.

The positives - the owner is incredibly nice and accommodating of the mistakes (see below). And the property manager is outstanding. The little creek in the back is pleasant. Unfortunately, it was (is?) incorrectly listed as having a king and queen. However, the biggest bed is a queen, the next is a full and there are two twins. We would not have booked it had we known it had smaller beds. We were given a portion of our rental fee back for the misleading listing AND thanks to the kindness of the owner. If you’re looking for a 60’s/70’s cabin without updates, this is your place. The online pics had to have been taken with floodlights…inside it’s very dark downstairs. First floor bath is tiny. FYI, if you have children or don’t like evil stuff, there are lots of books about ghosts, murders, horror movies and a framed print with a bloodied scene in one of the bedrooms. So be aware of the darkness therein.

Hi John, we’re sorry to hear that the listing didn’t meet your expectations, and after sending your feedback to the homeowner, they’d like to share the following:- We apologize for the confusion regarding the bed sizes in the listing. We delivered a king-size air mattress to accommodate your needs and issued a partial refund to address the inconvenience.- The home is a classic 60s/70s cabin, which many guests appreciate for its retro charm. However, we understand that the aesthetic and lighting may not be ideal for everyone.- The books and artwork in the home reflect a diverse collection, and we apologize if they were unsettling. We’ll review these items to ensure they align with a broader range of guest preferences.Thank you again for your feedback

dirty

we stayed on this property in July 2023. We had two couples and one individual. This property was cramped and not clean, and also very dark downstairs. The beds t downstairs were very uncomfortable. Bathroom downstairs very small. The cook wear was very old. I actually found mouse droppings in the crockpot that I was hoping to use. Mouse traps several places. Towels very old and raggedy. The upstairs was roomy, comfy bed, but had issues with the toilet flushing and no towels supplied up there. Outside had a area with a table and chairs that was very dirty. Grill very cheap and should be thrown away! I absolutely would not recommend this property!! I have never written a review, but felt this was necessary.

Hi Todd, thanks for letting us know about your stay. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they would like to share the following: -"We take great care to ensure that the property and house are meticulously cleaned before every guest's stay. You'll find the curtains are typically drawn, but they can be easily opened to welcome the warm sunlight into the downstairs areas. -All the spaces throughout the cabin are accurately depicted in the photos on the Evolve website, so it's a bit surprising that the guest wasn't fully aware of the inviting living space downstairs. -As for the downstairs beds, they're equipped with brand new bedding and toppers, and the double bed boasts a fresh mattress for a comfortable night's sleep. -The downstairs bathroom may be a tad smaller, but it's impeccably clean, highly functional, and well-lit, just as you can see in the Evolve pictures. -We've stocked the kitchen with a combination of new and well-maintained cookware for our guests to choose from, and we maintain the cleanliness of all cookware, including the crock pot, so you won't encounter any unexpected surprises. -Rest assured, we always provide towels in both the downstairs and upstairs bathrooms. We'll also be making an improvement by replacing the upstairs toilet to ensure a smoother flushing experience. -Before your arrival, all the outdoor furniture, including tables and chairs, is given a thorough cleaning to create a welcoming outdoor space for your enjoyment. And while the grill is on the smaller side to fit the back deck, it's perfectly functional and ready for your use. We hope this information proves helpful, and that these explanations provide some clarity. Please know that it is our sincere desire to provide a welcoming and enjoyable experience for our guests."
