Not what we hoped for but a great little beach
Our experience was in April, early in the season. (The last comment in the guest book was from last August). There was a strong musty/mildewy smell pervading the whole house, strongest from the bed and sofas. It remained strong overnight and was nasty enough that we checked ourselves out and found a room at one of the resorts, where we had a very pleasant stay. When we told the property manager about the smell she said it was from the limestone, but it was the same smell as when you accidentally leave laundry in the washer for the weekend, and associated with all the fabrics. There are also a lot of signs of water damage - most window frames and a lot of the walls were stained. A fresh coat of paint on the walls and window frames, with fresh dry sheets, would have made a big difference. The other challenge for us was that it’s relatively isolated. The property manager wasn’t able to answer our question about charging one of the local electric cars that tourists can rent (tourists are not allowed to rent a gas engine car) and we weren’t comfortable renting a moped, so we counted on walking and taxis. It turns out that taxis can be a little slow outside of Hamilton and the resorts at night. Walking is complicated by a lack of sidewalks and shoulders. On the rail trail it was a 40 min walk to a grocery store. BUT there is a great little beach (but in the back yard of the 1st flr residents) and several kayaks. The patio is a terrific, private spot with a great view. Nice kitchen.
