About this property

Exclusive Pambula Beach 5-Bed Right on the Sand with Premium Direct Sand Access.

Welcome to The River Mouth Beach House, a beautifully appointed 5-bedroom coastal retreat set right on the sand at Pambula Beach. With rare direct beach access from the front yard, sweeping water and river views, private coastal heritage, and premium comfort, this is the only home of its kind in town. A family property since the 1950s, it blends modern amenities with authentic fishing-village character.

Previous guests have commented that, although the photos are beautiful, they still don’t compare to the incredible feeling of experiencing the property firsthand.

This is the only property in Pambula Beach where you can step straight through the front yard and onto the sand — no roads, no public pathways, and nothing between you and the ocean except dune grass and shells. Morning swims, barefoot coffee strolls, and dolphin sightings often happen here.

Our family story began in the humble beach hut still standing on the grass below the house. In the 1950s, Olive and Walter, along with Dawn and their growing family, lived in that quaint shack just metres from where you’ll stand today. From these early days, the river was central to daily life — providing fresh fish for dinner, a playground for children, and a constant reminder of the family’s deep ties to this land and sea.

Later, Uncle Ken who was a local commercial fisherman and beloved barefoot character, built his cottage on the property. He repaired nets on the grass flats below, with trawlers moored at the nearby jetty. His original fibro cottage was removed in 2007 to make way for the modern duplex you’ll stay in today. But his legacy remains everywhere.

Dawn and John lived here for most of their lives. Though they have since passed, their creativity, humour, and love for this shoreline remain in every beam and board. Their son now owns the property, and we are honoured to share this cherished place with guests who value both comfort and story.

You’ll find genuine touches of family heritage throughout:

• Island bench and dining table crafted from Uncle Ken’s cottage timbers
• Fishing poles overhead, 60–70 years old
• A chandelier built from a traditional dip net
• An entertainment unit made from timbers salvaged from the Empire Gladstone shipwreck — pulled up in nets and saved "for a rainy day”. These are not décor choices. They are memories.

Perched just above the sand, the small beach hut has become one of the most painted icons on this coastline. It’s been featured in family portraits, art shows, and countless holiday albums. Guests now enjoy it for shade, picnics, and quiet reading between swims.

Absolutely amazing

Everything about this property was incredible - from the ease of booking and communication with the property managers to the location and facilities within the house. We stayed with family including 3yr old twins and the property managers had been so thoughtful in stocking the fridge/pantry with local produce and even cake mixes/popcorn for the kids. The house contains everything you could need and more - we barely had to leave. And with access to the most incredible beach frontage and beach hut, we didn't really need to nor want to leave! We'll be back!

Paradise for the whole family

From the very question I asked Sally and Rob were friendly, helpful and excited to be able to share their gorgeous home with my family. We have struggled to find a place that satisfies all our needs - adults craving a rest, a couple of teenagers wanting activity, a 10 year old wanting adventure and a young man wheelchair bound wanting to get as close to the water as he could. We hit the jackpot with Rivermouth. The house exceeded the pictures! Sally and Rob set us up with gorgeous local delicacies and shared the many stories around the history of their house. Every water toy was experimented with, multiple gamenights were enjoyed, marshmallows were toasted on the fire, my son got his wheelchair down to the beach and us parents enjoyed a couple of sunsets tucked away. I can’t recommend this beautiful escape enough and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Thanks again Sally and Rob - my family have reconnected, recharged and laughed hard for a week.

Best stay yet!

Cannot fault this place! We were greeted by Sally and shown around what is the most accurate home vs pictures we have seen. The outlook over the water was breathtaking and changed daily making dinners special on the balcony. There is a range of sporting goods to use while there and for us we wanted a safe place for our two you kids to play in the water. We really did not want to leave and would happily return and recommend this place to others. Often the photos online are let down when you get to a place but this was not the case with Pambula beach. 5 stars! Cheers Sal for the hospitality!

Perfect Pambula River House

We have been doing a Christmas in July for about seven years. Each year we find a house and spend the week. Pambula River House did not disappoint. Unimpeded views of the river and ocean. Dolphins playing in view from the balcony, clean, comfortable and well set up. We love to cook and the kitchen and pantry were perfect, An impressive array of cookbooks an added bonus for me. Great spaces both inside and out. Read an entire book in the week, walked on the beach, watched crazy people swimming in July, played the best game of Monopoly, watched sunrise from the balcony across the river bar, lulled to sleep by the lapping of the water in the river. Need I say more. Perfect Pambula.

Fabulous in every respect.

Sally and rob were wonderfully kind and thoughtful. The house location can’t be beaten and the quality and aesthetics fabulous. Can’t recommend highly enough. If you don’t enjoy everything about being here - take a look in the mirror. And ask yourself some hard questions about where it all went wrong.

Unbeatable location and house, helpful hosts

We stayed for a week over 2018 Christmas - my wife and two sons, their wives and our 3 grandchildren - a rare whole family Xmas together. We had high expectations, and they were more than met! The house is superbly located overlooking the river beach and the mouth of the Pambula River. The river beach is reached by a short path from the house (<50m). It is safe and terrific for children, protected from the ocean by sand bars at the river mouth. The ocean beach is accessible by walking along the river beach to the river mouth and continuing. The house has been built to maximize the views including from a lovely balcony area. The house is also situated to catch a gentle sea breeze, helping keep us cool on the hot days. The house is superbly designed with 5 bedrooms and a number of discrete living areas all connected and with views. The fittings and facilities are first class. We mainly self-catered - everything we needed was there - and we have some adventurous "chefs" in the family. There is also water equipment including kayak and fitness gear in the garage. This was complemented by some delicious locally produced food placed by Sally and Rob in the fridge when we arrived. Sally and Rob also put up a Xmas tree for us as well as being willing to answer questions and give tips for what to enjoy locally. Rob's family have lived near the river mouth for a few generations. Rob's craft work and family mementos help decorate the house to give it character. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have been to the area a number of times - never in such classy accommodation as this! It is a beautiful and interesting part of Australia.

Just WOW!

We were smitten by this property from the minute we found it online, and that feeling lasted until the very end of our stay. The view and location are just unbeatable. We were two families with young children and we couldn't have been happier in this amazing, immaculate house. Fantastic spacious areas for us to relax indoors and outside. The kitchen was kitted out with every convenience. We could watch the children play on the beach from the deck above, and bush walks and swims at the adjoining surf beach were a regular outing. Sally and Rob were super helpful, accommodating and friendly hosts. We hope to come back.

About the host

Host profile image
This property and surrounding land, including the beach at the front, has been in the family since the 1950's.
In the early 1930's my Mother, Dawn, moved with her family to the little hut with the veranda located on the beach at the front of this house. Hard to believe but her entire family of 5 lived there.
In the early 1950's Dawn's brother Ken purchased the land, and built a cottage where he lived until his passing in the early 2000's. Uncle Ken was a local deep-sea trawler fisherman and a bit of a character, he despised wearing shoes and was often seen walking into Pambula in just his bare feet, even in the coldest of frosty winters. He made his living from the sea and was often seen mending his fishing nets on the rocks below the house at low tide, with his beloved trawlers moored at the jetty beside.
In 2007 Uncle Ken's fibro cottage was pulled down to make way for the new Duplex homes here today.

What makes this property unique

This is the only property in Pambula Beach where you can step straight through the front yard and onto the sand — no roads, no public pathways, and nothing between you and the ocean except dune grass and shells. Morning swims, barefoot coffee strolls, and dolphin sightings often happen here.
