Scenic views, ocean sounds, privacy, comfort, and security are all yours at this private estate on 25 acres of jungle. Plus, an amazing variety of wildlife everywhere you turn.
My three level, three bedroom home sleeps six guests comfortably with two king beds and one double bed on floors two and three. I have a studio apartment for myself on the ground floor. Your villa is private complete with a generous outdoor living area and a charcoal grill. Both units share the pool and a gas grill. Located in a private ocean-front community with over 1,200 acres of lush virgin jungle surrounding the estate.
This is a nature lover’s paradise! Many species of animals can be seen from the home including the famous white-faced monkeys, toucans, sloths, wild pigs, agouti, parrots and many more! This year I installed animal cameras and discovered an ocelot that walks through weekly! There is a large pond teeming with tilapia and a couple of goldfish. The orchard boasts many tropical fruits. Lounging in the poolside hammock with a bird book in your lap is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
Sunsets are amazing from the property every night!

About the host

I love the tropics. I lived in the Caribbean for 16 years and have owned property here in Costa Rica for almost 20 years. I was lucky enough to move here full time a couple of years ago. Is this TMI? I was pregnant with my now 38 year old daughter and was looking for a place give birth. Costa Rica's stats were great, good medical care, high literacy rate, conservation programs and goals, and broad minded social justice policies. All of those priorities are still in place and continue to be fostered. I consider myself a creative but am a bit of a dilettante - I dabble in this and that. The most obvious example that you will experience is my garden. When I bought the house the gardens did not include much besides grass and hibiscus. For the first few years I focused on my orchard and building my pond. Now I am looking toward plants that attract more birds and planting more flowers. Last year I planted an ice cream bean tree. The monkey's, the scarlet macaws and I can hardly wait for the first beans to arrive!! They are supposed to taste like vanilla ice cream.
Why they chose this property
Comunidad Ecologica Guapilena is a special place on earth. We are 400 acres divided into 20 privately held lots. There are currently 14 houses. I own 25 of those acres. It is legally an ecological reserve bordered on one side by a 100 acre refuge and above by another municipal "animal corridor" so the animals can get from the mountains to the sea. We are limited as to what we can use the land for. Add to that Costa Rica protects certain types of primary jungle trees. What you end up with is a magical jungle paradise. I have seen three types of big cats, herds of peccaries, anteaters, sloths, scarlet macaws, squirrel monkeys, whitefaced monkeys, toucans, 3 foot tall Crested Great Curassow (a big bird), guans, Chachalacas, the list goes on.
Even though you are officially in the jungle, 10 minutes away is the little village of Dominical, and about 30 minutes to the north or south are two small towns with a great variety restaurants, shops and services. It is a wonderful blend of convenience and jungle.
Right in front of the house are miles and miles of beaches. Quite often you can spend the day on the beach and only see 5 other people. There is kayaking, white water rafting, parasailing, fishing all within 30 minutes. We even have a vanilla farm nearby that also grows cacao - the treats at the end of that tour are wonderful.
What makes this property unique
What make this place unique? One word. VIEW. The house sits about 340 feet above sea level. You can see Manual Antonio National Park to the north and Cano Island to the south. That is 150 kilometers of view. The house is comfortable and colorful, tranquil and tropical. As I type this I can hear a female sloth calling for some attention. It doesn't get better than this.
