This property is BEAUTIFUL! The owners were easy to communicate with and quick with a response when we had a question. I will definitely seek this property again if I find myself in the Mendocino area.

This was a great place to stay in Mendocino! Quiet and hidden away, but close to town. Plenty of space in the house as well!

Karen’s Ferngully is a lovely, homey place within proximity to the town of Mendocino. Upon our arrival everything was clean and ready to use, such as the comfy bed and clean bathrooms. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sounds of nature and the sunshine. We enjoyed our stay and our dog loved it as well!

This property was perfect for 2 couples. Spacious and well supplied kitchen. Plenty of clean towels, hot tub and nice outdoor space. Enjoyed the deer that visited everyday. Convenient location for enjoying the coast and hiking.

Mendocino has been one of our favorite getaway destinations for decades, beginning with our first wedding anniversary back in 1982. We have never had any major complaints with the many vacation rentals there until we recently booked "Karen's Fern Gully" for our 45th anniversary. For some reason, the booking through VRBO was handed off to Pacific Blue Rentals. The property description on both of their websites failed to notify prospective renters that they would not have use of the fireplace - it was actually padlocked with no explanation. In speaking to the owner of Pacific Blue about this disappointing discovery, he casually mentioned that "none of the Mendocino rentals allowed the use of fireplaces because of fire concerns". As it was, a fireplace was one of the essential features in our selection of a romantic anniversary getaway. Also, the clothes closet in the master bedroom is locked for the owner's use only and, with a shared driveway and several neighboring homes having unobstructed views of the property, it does not offer the privacy that the description claims.

Im sorry that you had issues with your stay and I know the main reason was that the Woodstove was locked of and I ecxplained that we do not advertise the woodstove as an amenity, not on this property or any other that we manage, it's a safety thing for our guests and a protection for our homeowners. Im so sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us, sounds like we might not be a good fit for your travel needs but there are lots of other great vacation rentals here in our area that might be better suited for you guys! I do hope that you have a nice day and a fantastic weekend ahead!

Checking in was a bit problematic. The housekeeper was working alone (multiple cleaners were ill that day) and we couldn’t move in until almost 5:00, although she gave us access to the deck and a bathroom so that we could wait more comfortably. Also, while a key code for the front door was provided, directions for locking the door were not. We didn’t think to ask the housekeeper before she left, and a call to the emergency number was not returned until the next morning. The house was very clean, and it was well equipped and well supplied. It was very convenient to Mendocino, and Ft Bragg was an easy ride down the road. A doe and her fawn visited us a couple of times, and the bears were thankfully not in evidence. This is a comfortable house (*) and pet-friendly too. I can see returning on another visit.(*) The middle bedroom has a sofa bed, and the person using that room reported it as firm and rather lumpy.

Peaceful, quiet stay

Had a lovely time at this cozy Mendocino cabin. The cabin was spacious and surrounded by green trees. There was a big yard for our pup to run around and a hot tub to hang out in. We woke up and read books in the window seats overlooking the yard It was only a 5 minute drive to the town of Mendocino which made for easy trips to go out to dinner or shop around. Would stay again!

2025 Get together

The house was clean & spacious. We had five adults in our group and plenty of room inside and out. It's a quick drive to Mendocino village and Fort Bragg up the highway. All of us had a great time exploring the different trails & beaches. Hot tub was nice after a long day. Everyone in our party slept comfortably.

The location couldn’t be better. We were minutes away from Mendocino and an easy drive up or down the coast or into Anderson valley. At the property we saw a fox, several deer and numerous birds. The house is comfortable, although the third bedroom is small. The kitchen is well stocked and the rest of the house comfortable.

Overall stay was pretty nice. First day the water heater went out so we couldn't shower the entire trip but we were able to wash off with water in the hot tub.The owner and rental company were very quick to get the situation addressed; however, due to it being Labor Day weekend, the water heater couldn't be fixed. The rental company man , Carl, was extremely nice and compensated us nicely for the inconvenience. The beds were comfortable and the overall cleaniness were great. Other than the water heater going out it was great!!

Well needed respite

The property is secluded yet close to Mendo Village and less than 10 from Ft Bragg. Hot tub on a cold night was terrific. Lots of green! which was a welcome sight as opposed to the Sonoran desert. Several beautiful state parks within 10 miles provides an amazing opportunity to visit all of them. Botanical Gardens are well worth the trip and cost. Perfect cool temps. I wish the property had a washer/dryer on site so we didn’t have to go to laundry mat, but it’s not too far away in FB.

Quiet, Peaceful, Private

This property is very spacious and private. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with pans and small appliances, though we hated (really) the coffee maker. It is a one cup at a time machine that does not have an expanded water reservoir so you have to add water and coffee between each cup. There was a very nice selection of spices, both savory and baking. All of our other negatives are pretty minor: broken blue chair on the patio (unsafe), broken toilet seat bracket in master makes the seat move around, master bed is too high for us short people, I grabbed a couple of 4x4s from the wood pile to create a step so i could get into it. Directions for how to lock the front door would have been nice and would have saved some time. Plenty of towels and dinnerware. Oh, bring your own TV software/HDMI cable as the channels available are basic and you can't rent anything on their system.
