Victorian Walled Garden. Stunning secluded property, 3/4 acre private garden
Welcome to the Bothy! Lesley has very recently transformed the old bee keeper's cottage and south facing greenhouse into a charming one bedroomed retreat in the heart of rural Pembrokeshire.
The Bothy is a stylish conversion nestled against the Victorian wall and beside the remnants of an old orangery. Wander through spring flowers, pick fruit in summer, listen to birdsong, star gaze or just relax on the South facing patio.
The Garden is in the heart of peaceful rural Pembrokeshire but less than 30 minutes from the stunning coastline. If you want to get away to tranquil surroundings but have access to historic sites and beautiful beaches this is the place for you.
The Bothy welcomes sociable dogs: we have two of our own who will visit! There are walks directly from the property and bedding for your pet is provided.
The garden was part of the historic Penty Parc Estate, the only one of three connected local estates still in private ownership and not open to the public. We are gradually restoring the garden but you will see an ancient yew and a border of hornbeams near your accommodation along with our more recent orchard area and fruit bushes. Our bees now live outside the South wall!
The Bothy has a bedroom, wet room, open plan lounge kitchen diner and a large sunny patio. Furniture, equipment, linens and decor are of a high standard with attention paid to the use of local materials in keeping with the surroundings. Outside there is an Alexander Rose Portofino patio set, an umbrella and a lounger for relaxing with birdsong or gazing at the starry night sky. There is ample parking.
The property is centrally located with easy access to local beaches, the coastal path, Preseli hill walking, a riding stables, Scolton Manor, The Scolton Manor Spa, Lys Y Fran Country Park and sites of ancient settlement. There is a range of outdoor activities on offer and easy access to cafes, Haverfordwest and the small market town of Narbeth.
There is plenty to se: prehistoric sites, castles, dramatic geology, or simply step back and enjoy the peace!
The Bothy nestles against the North wall of this secluded 3 acre garden and offers guests privacy, rural walks and easy access to the stunning rugged north coast as well as the vast beaches and many attractions of Pembrokeshire.
Enjoy the comfort of modern living within this historic setting as you gaze at the 700 year old yew from your secluded garden Evenings provide stunning sunset skies to the west and with no light pollution, the opportunity for spectacular star gazing. If you want to retreat to the heart of the Pembrokeshire countryside, this is the place for you! Lesley offers a warm welcome, is at hand if necessary, but otherwise you can relax in your own peaceful space.

My Restoration Project of the Walled Garden
You are staying in the three acre Victorian Walled Garden at Penty Park.
The Penty Park Estate was formerly the home of the Phillips family, descended from a second son of Picton Castle and eventually passed to the Lloyd family. The main house is next door to the Walled Garden and can be seen from the lane and West boundary.
As with many country houses of its type, Penty Parc started its journey into decline after the 1st world war and eventually went into bankruptcy in 1989.
I purchased the Walled Garden and surrounding fields in a completely derelict state in 2007 and have been trying to restore it to some of its former glory ever since. So far, I have restored the walls, the Gardener’s Cottage (my own home), the Old Boiler House, the Bothy and various areas of the productive garden. This will be a lifelong project!
Originally there was an orangery and greenhouse against the North wall. I was unable to restore what little remained of these structures but have established a fruit and vegetable growing area along the wall which produces organic crops for my business, The George’s in Haverfordwest.
I have also established an apiary outside the South wall to produce local honey. There is very little use of pesticides within the flight range of my bees, so the honey is a natural local product I am proud to produce and sell.
In its glory days the garden was feeding close to a hundred people locally and providing a huge amount of employment. I now raise fruit and vegetables, produce preserves and pickles , manage the trees and wild flower areas, and slowly tame the wilderness areas to create environments favourable to wildlife.
I am a dog lover who supports our local animal rescue, Greenacres, and have three resident dogs who are friendly. They will visit when you arrive but will only persist if you feed them. Wander the garden, fields and woods with your own pets - on leads as you pass the horses next door.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
My decision to buy the derelict garden could be described as madness! When you stay with me, you will understand. It is a life's work, slowly restoring the walls, taming the overgrown brambles, managing the ancient trees and returning the walkways to flower strewn vistas. The garden is now a haven for wildlife, flora and my bee hives along the outside of the south wall.
I feel protective of this little bit of Pembrokeshire history and am privileged to have contributed in a small way to a partial restoration of this beautiful, tranquil haven in the middle of countryside of outstanding peace and beauty.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
Why here - so many reasons! An ancient hornbeam hedge, a 700 year yew, the shelter within the walls, a sense of history and place, peace, tranquillity, silence, star gazing, organic growing, birdsong, shall I go on? You will enjoy a sense of place in the solitude of your own space but can venture forth refreshed to the drama, beauty and variety of this county of coast, castles, hills and ancient sites.
