THE CRAFTSMAN'S COTTAGE - A spacious 4 bedroom townhouse in the heart of Alnwick
A spacious townhouse in the heart of Alnwick, the Craftsman’s Cottage combines a dream location with distinctive interiors.
A period property that oozes character and is located just a short meander from Alnwick Garden
The medieval town of Alnwick is one of the most prized destinations in northern England, celebrated for its 11th-century castle, spectacular Alnwick Garden, atmospheric town, and proximity to delightful coastal and rural villages such as Alnmouth and Lesbury.
Set on the southern corner of Alnwick Garden (just a few yards from the legendary Barter Books second-hand book shop, which is set in a former Victorian railway station and spawned the renaissance of the now ubiquitous WW2 Keep Calm and Carry On slogan ), Craftsman’s Cottage places all of Alnwick’s key attractions within 10 minutes’ walk. Guests can stroll along the town’s cobbled streets, admire the Grand Cascade waterfall and other horticultural creations within Alnwick Garden and, of course, relive the magic of Harry Potter at Alnwick Castle.
Cottage is arguably something of a misnomer when it comes to the Craftsman’s Cottage, which comprises spacious living areas and four generous bedrooms. Stepping through the sunny yellow front door brings you into a light-filled hall with a large sitting room to your right, entered through double glass doors. Two windows, both with window seats, overlook the gentle bustle of Alnwick while a striking stone fireplace, beautiful antique furniture and a discrete television set an elegant yet relaxed tone.
Follow the hallway through to the dining area, which is set by full-height glass windows and a door that leads out onto a small patio. From here, you can head into the country kitchen, complete with lime-washed timber beams and a fabulous old brick fireplace containing a wood-burner, or towards a pretty ensuite bedroom, which benefits from direct access to the patio. Cleverly, the kitchen can be accessed from both the dining area and the sitting room, achieving a lovely sense of flow and convivial vibe throughout the ground floor.
Just outside the kitchen and dining area, a striking timber and black-painted steel spiral staircase curls upwards, ushering guests to the impressive master bedroom. Beneath whitewashed timber beams and illuminated by a double window with window seats, you’ll find a sumptuous antique bed, an inviting seating area and ensuite bathroom with shower. After a long day’s broomstick training at Alnwick Castle, when only a bath will do, there’s a family bathroom on this floor as well, in addition to a twin bedroom. A further double bedroom is located on this floor.
GROUND FLOOR
Main access from the front of the property (three steps up to the front door).
Access hallway with hanging rail.
Sitting room with large sofa, two armchairs, Smart TV, decorative fireplace.
Kitchen with small central island unit, ceramic induction hob, electric oven, 3/4 dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, microwave, washer/dryer, wood burning stove.
Dining area with seating for eight with doors leading out to a tiny rear patio with cafe table and two chairs.
Bedroom one with 4'6" double bed, built-in wardrobe, dressing table, side door leading to the rear patio area (this is the same patio area accessed via the dining area).
En suite bathroom with shower, wall-mounted hairdryer unit, basin and WC.
FIRST FLOOR
A spiral staircase with handrail leads to the first floor with a door with juliet balcony. Please note the stair is quite steep and may not be suitable for guests with restricted mobility or younger children.
Family bathroom at the top of the stairs with bath and shower over (rainforest head and separate mixer), heated towel rail, basin and WC.
Bedroom two with 6' super king bed, side tables, dressing table, chest of drawers. This large room also benefits from its own sitting area with sofa, two armchairs, a large window seat, decorative fireplace and a Smart TV.
En suite bathroom - shower with rainforest head and mixer, heated towel rail, wall mounted hairdryer, basin and WC.
Bedroom three with a 5'2" king size bed, side tables, chest of drawers, two chairs, Smart TV.
Bedroom four with twin 2'6" twin beds, side tables, large wardrobe, wall-mounted Smart TV.
OUTSIDE
There is a tiny patio area to the rear of the property offering some privacy. This has a cafe table and two chairs for sitting out. The size of this space means this would be limiting for outside dining, however the doors from the dining area do open up to allow fresh air and sunlight to flood in. A barbecue is not provided.
PARKING
Due to its position on the street, there is no private parking provision. Street parking can be found a few hundred yards from the property or in the public car park nearby.
BABIES & CHILDREN
The property is not felt to be suitable for babies therefore no travel cot or high chair is provided. It is important to note the spiral stair leading to the first floor which may not be particularly suitable for younger children.
DOGS
Sorry, dogs are not permitted at The Craftsman's Cottage.
GUEST AMENITIES
All bed linen and towels are provided. The bedding is hypoallergenic. There are wall mounted hairdryers in the bathrooms. Guest toiletries are provided.
WI-FI & MOBILE COVERAGE
Wi-Fi is available at good speeds. Mobile reception is generally good.
HEATING
Gas central heating throughout the property. There is a wood burner in the kitchen with an initial basket of logs supplied.
GUEST PRIVACY
The cottage sits on the main road leading into the centre of Alnwick and as such guests should be aware there may be some associated street and traffic noise, particularly from the principal front facing rooms of the property.
