Perfectly located village house just a short walk from Methoni beach and Castle.

Hi Alexandra, Thanks for that lovely review. We're very glad you enjoyed yourselves. It was a pleasure to host you three. Maybe you might visit us again out of season one year. The sea is warm until mid November and everything, especially flights, are cheaper after the schools go back. Apart from the odd storm September and October are perfect months, temp is about 26. Best wishes, Nigel and Fiona

Thanks so much, guys. It was wonderful meeting you all and feeling such affinity with your big, wonderful family. H and I speak of you often and wonder how you're all doing. We try hard to emulate your incredible military-like skill, Sophie of marching everyone out of the house and down to the beach twice a day. You were perfect guests and we really hope to see you again sometime in the future . xxx

Thanks, Iris. It's always wonderful to see you, Gregor and your lovely family. I really hope everyone's fine and that you manage to get back to the carefree and idyllic way of life in Methoni soon. Best wishes to all, Fiona xxx

Thank you so much for staying with us for a whole month ! We're very pleased that you enjoyed it and are thinking of returning. Methoni is a real Greek village and even though the population is only in the hundreds, cafes, tavernas and shops are open all year round. It is relaxed enough that you can make friends with the locals while you are here. Methoni is an excellent base for a long stay as the car hire costs can be kept to a minimum. Our local car hire company can usually deliver to the Villa so that no precious beach time is lost. And by the way, the church bells do not ring at night - but they do make the most of the Sunday service !

Out of season or in and especially at Christmas, New Year and Easter it is particularly pleasant to be here in Methoni. Family members return home from Athens or abroad and the pretty church at the end of our road becomes a focal point for celebration. You don't have to be Greek Orthodox to join a candlelit procession here - all are welcome. That's how Methoni is, and why all our guests, whatever their nationality have felt like locals themselves within a day or two. A couple of meals in the local taverna and you are 'in' - gossiping about olives, olives and … olives ( Now is the olive season as you may have gathered )! Out of the heat of Summer is the best time to immerse yourself in the history, flora and fauna of this area - all at the same time! The sites of Ancient Bassae, Olympia, Messini and Nestor's Palace burst into life after the first September rain, and are dotted with wild cyclamen, arisaemas, crocus and Iris. Lizards, snakes and tortoises can be seen basking on the ancient stones. If you don't feel like driving there's Methoni castle, just a short and lovely walk away - the biggest and best preserved Medieval castle on the Mediterranean with over a mile of wild and barely explored walls, towers and tunnels. You are guaranteed to get back to the house with some great shots and probably a bunch of Spring flowers you considered rare before coming here. Methoni contrasts with tourist oriented areas which although very busy in summer, virtually shut down out of season. Of course the weather isn't as predictable, or as hot as summer, but this year Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing Day were a sunny 18C in the afternoons and we were enjoying sunshine until leaving for New Year in the UK. Thank you John, Summer and Aria for deciding to stay with us. We hope you can return one day…

We try to improve each year so our returning guests find something new. We've been able to extend the upper garden terraces and we've added an outside bathroom in Villa Aleiki to make life easier for sandy families and outside living. The grapevine is finally big enough to provide shade without it's bamboo roof and there are sun-loungers under the olive and citrus trees. We're pleased to see Methoni improving as well, without losing its uniquely traditional village feel. As you mentioned the beach has now entered the age of sunbeds and there are different places to eat alongside the traditional tavernas. This includes the new child-friendly garden cafe that you recommended to us ! In the end, nothing beats watching the sunset over Methoni castle, the most awesome castle on the Mediterranean. Thanks to you all for deciding to holiday with us for a second time, with a special mention to Oscar on his first visit.

We were very pleased to welcome these two families who are good friends and booked both the Aleiki and Phoebe Villas at the same time for their holiday ( the other familiy review is on the Phoebe review page ). Our guests opened the garden gates between the two gardens allowing them to share both gardens. They still had the privacy of separate villas to stay in. Since then we have had another booking for both villas by two families at the same time. If you are two families looking for a holiday together where your children can play safely and you can each have your own villa to relax in we suggest Aleiki and Phoebe Villas in Methoni.
