A lovely cottage set in a village location with easy access to the South Downs Sussex coast and many local attractions. Lychgate Cottage is set within the grounds of the owners’ property but maintains its privacy with its own outside area and access. It is just a short walk to the village high street with local shops and amenities and yet has easy access to the myriad of countryside walks in the local area. The accommodation is all on one level and is perfectly suited for two. The galley style, well-equipped kitchen has an Edwardian style glass roof which allows wonderful light into this area. The lounge/dining area has a comfortable sofa and armchair and entertainment provided by Freeview television. The comfortable double bedroom is accessed from the lounge and has en-suite facilities. Outside there is a patio area with table and chairs for those sunnier days. Directly behind the property is the beautiful parish church which you can access through the garden area. Henfield is a lovely market town with a great choice of independent and individual shops. It’s an interesting little town to explore and from here you can walk or cycle on The Downs Link along the old railway line and head north towards the old station at West Grinstead station or south towards the Downs and Steyning and enjoy some beautiful scenery as it follows the line of the Adur. Just five miles to the south is the popular vantage point of Devil’s Dyke. At nearly a mile long, the Dyke valley is the longest deepest and widest ’dry valley’ in the UK. Everywhere you walk history surrounds you from Iron Age forts to Victorian funfairs. When John Constable described the panorama from Devil’s Dyke as ’the grandest view in the world’ he wasn’t wrong but there is so much more to discover here than just a beautiful view. Within 15 minutes’ drive are delightful country villages encapsulating a wealth of history. From Bramber with its enchanting historic 15th-century timber-framed house of St Marys to the vibrant small town of Steyning full of narrow streets with many timber framed Tudor style buildings as well as some fine Georgian townhouses. The wonderfully historic town of Arundel is just half an hour away and is well worth a visit . This stunning place is dominated by the symbolic Arundel Castle which is seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Arundel offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tea rooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality. Thirty minutes to the east and you will be in Lewes full of cafes, restaurants and bars. The River Ouse flows through the town dividing it into two areas between Cliffe High Street presented in beautiful period style with its gateway, a paved bridge crossing the river and the main High Street that heads up the hill. The castle at the top of the town is open to visitors as is the Barbican Museum opposite. It offers a peaceful area immediately off the High Street. In the town’s Southover district is Anne of Cleves House which is also open to the public. It was left by Henry VIII as a settlement in their divorce. Visiting Lewes on the first Saturday of the month is recommended when the thriving Farmers’ Market comes to town with lots of delicious fare on offer.
From the top of the South Downs the chalk hills slope away towards the vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Brighton just twelve miles away where you can enjoy the decadence of the Royal Pavilion, once the summer home to the Prince Regent, or experience the ’vertical pier’ of Brighton’s futuristic i360 which is the world’s tallest moving observation tower at 138 metres. There is such a wide range of diverse restaurants, bars and eateries to keep you energised to enjoy the vast array of attractions in this beautiful coastal city. Other places to visit include Nymans Gardens and Sea Life Centre. Shop, pub and restaurant in Henfield.

Lychgate
We spent a lovely few days at Lychgate Cottage. We did find it a bit difficult to locate the property once in the village and didn’t have a telephone number to contact the owners or Vrbo. The cottage was very cosy and equipped with everything we could want and more. We were supplied with lots of essentials on arrival (ie tea, coffee, bread , milk etc) and more. Anthony and Marilyn welcomed us on arrival and Marilyn showed us around the cottage. Henfield is a small village only about 5 minutes walk from the cottage and has 2 supermarkets a pharmacy and several other small shops and 4 pubs. We were extremely happy with the cottage and would highly recommend it. Marilyn and Colin

As one guest described it: "In the beautiful village of Henfield just 12 miles from Brighton. The property was designed as a granny flat and is attached to the owner's house, so the furnishings and equipment all first class and top quality. Though only one bedroom, all the rooms are a good size with large amounts of storage space throughout the property. The property is just a three minute walk from Henfield centre, which has an excellent supply of independent shops including two good supermarkets, a post office, banks, restaurants and a small museum. There are numerous walks in and around Henfield and the local countryside, and the South Downs and Devils Dyke are only a few minutes drive away. The owners couldn't do enough to welcome us and make our stay in Henfield a memorable one, including a welcome basket of local goodies on our arrival and a bottle of wine to celebrate the arrival of our first grandchild in Brighton during the week. An excellent holiday home for two people, we cannot recommend it highly enough and will certainly be coming back!" We love providing the very best experience for visitors to our area.
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
Some of our guests describe it for us! When I arrived I was met by Marilyn who showed me into the cottage. She was so lovely and accommodating. I was amazed of how well equipped the cottage was. Every draw in the kitchen gave another surprise - everything you could think of and more!. The comfy living room area was just what I needed - I was in the area on business so to return in the evening and being able to relax in a comfortable chair (it reclines) and either watch tv (has freeview) or watch a film (house has a huge supply of dvd's) or read (bookcase full of books too). There is also good wifi. Very comfortable bed in nicely decorated bedroom and good quality linen (both bed linen and towels). Good size en-suite bathroom too. Nothing was too much trouble for Marilyn and she certainly made sure that there was everything there for a perfect stay. Marilyn had left for my arrival fresh bread, milk, local butter and cheese and eggs in the fridge. The kitchen cupboards had a good selection of herbs and there was even tea, coffee, sugar so that there was no need to have to quickly go out and shop. Marilyn had also put her own jam and biscuits too. Small things like washing up liquid, washing machine liquid, hand soap in both the kitchen and bathroom and shower gel made it feel like even the little things had been thought about too. The whole feeling of the house made my stay a fabulous one. The house is just a 5 minute walk down into Henfield which has a lovely charm to it and a superb base to be able to explore locally and the South Downs. My whole stay was fantastic and Marilyn and her husband were great hosts. They are there if you need anything (a quick knock at their door ) whilst at the same time respecting your privacy and not imposing on your space. I was sad to leave and I will be returning to this "little gem" that I have discovered. Thank you very much Marilyn and Anthony
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
Our guests describe it! Great location as quick walk to the centre of the village. Fully equipped with lovely touches including all essentials available and also home made biscuits. Cleaning also included. Marylin was away when we arrived and her son was waiting for us as arranged, so no issue on arrival. When leaving we realised we were over on luggage weight and she very kindly let us leave item behind to pick up on next visit. So kind and helpful.
