Kitty's Lake House es una casa frente al lago de 3 estaciones con espectaculares vistas de la puesta de sol sobre las montañas y las últimas cien millas del sendero de los Apalaches. Una de las propiedades más singulares de la zona, esta casa tiene capacidad para 10 con toda la belleza que Maine tiene para ofrecer justo afuera de la puerta principal. Camina por el pico más alto de Maine (Mt Katahdin), el Gran Cañón de Maine (Gulf Hagas), rápidos de clase 5 en balsa de aguas blancas por la rama oeste del río Penobscot o simplemente relájate en la playa frente al prístino South Twin Lake.

We had an amazing time! The house was so unique and spacious with plenty of space for my wife and I and our 8 kids. Also, our hosts could not have been more kind, helpful, and communicative. I highly recommend this space to anyone who wants a fantastic getaway on a beautiful lake in the heart of Maine!

Amazing Experience

Amazing property at a pristine location overlooking the lake. The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful throughout our stay, especially helping us out when there was an unexpected snow storm that led to power outage. Brought us over buckets and flashlights and offered us to move to another property. We loved this property so much that we decided to stay on. Cannot recommend this property and Kim and Renee enough. Would love to visit again

Great Home Near Baxter State Park & Millinocket

We stayed for a week with my 4 kids (ages 5 - 13) and parents and loved this house! It's a wonderful lake house with everything that you could possibly need. The kitchen is wonderful and the bedrooms were very comfortable. Plenty of room to spread out as well as to convene for meals. The lake is beautiful.

Paradise!

This was our second stay at this magical property! We were there for a long weekend with adult kids and one high schooler. Everyone had had a bit of a stressful Fall and the home in its gorgeous was the cure for what ailed us. Gorgeous, super fun, creatively designed house with some of the best views I've seen anywhere, even on gray days. Convenient to lots of great hiking and mountain biking as well as kayaking/canoeing and (for the hardier souls) swimming. Highly recommend!

Peaceful and beautiful

We brought our kayaks and loved the ease of kayaking from Kitty’s beach. Views from the kitchen make preparing delicious food all the more pleasurable. Eclectic and surprising at every turn, the house requires some attention to footing. We had a wonderful time.

Fabulous, comfortable, quirky and beautiful

The house is one of a kind, full of delightful details and lovingly crafted. The lake is gorgeous, quiet and has amazing views of the mountains (including Katahdin). We had a great time exploring the area, rafting, and enjoying the lake and playing games and reading in the many nooks of the house. The owners were very responsive and everything was as advertised if not better!

Magical Fall Weekend

We had the most wonderful weekend at Kitty's Lake House! The views are nothing short of spectacular. We arrived late at night and the wow factor when I woke up the next morning and looked out the window can't be overstated! The hosts were super responsive and helpful. We were able to do quite a bit in a few short days - kayaking, hiking in Baxter State Park, even apple picking! The house itself was a lovely place to come back to at the end of an active day - lots of fun design details and cosy nooks for reading. On the last night we made a fire in the fire pit on the beach and the kids enjoyed s'mores. We would very much like to return sometime soon!

Even better than the pictures!

Our stay was amazing. The property itself is beautiful and quirky (in a very good way), it is well stocked with towels and pantry staples, etc, and the views and beach are everything we could ever hope for. Renee and Kim were great hosts as well. I don't think I need to further recapitulate all of the glowing reviews that are already here; they are spot on. If you were ever thinking of coming to the Baxter area, you will not regret staying here!

Wonderful trip to Kitty’s House

Our group consisted of 4 adults and 4 teenagers. We all really enjoyed the house. It had so much character. The views of the lake and Mount Katahdin were incredible. We took plenty of days trips including a boat ride around the Twin Lakes, white water rafting and bass fishing right near the property. A wonderful home and location for families looking to enjoy nature.

The vacation you always see pictures of

Kitty’s Lake house is a rare and unique find. The pictures don’t do it justice. Waking up with a view of a lake and the mountains every morning was a great backdrop for lots of time spent with our whole family. There was lots of space to spread out but the common areas were big enough that everyone could be in the family room or at the table together. Game night was a blast. We brought our own but lots are on the shelves. Having Kim share the history of building the house was a treat for us. Don’t bring large bags. The spiral staircase leads to the second floor. The loft is up a ladder. One family member packed in rubber totes which they learned did not go up easily. Many great adventures within driving distances! We even drove to Bar Harbor. Renee was fantastic about communicating. I felt like she was right there.

Magical place on a beautiful lake!

Just a wonderfully eclectic comfortable home on a beautiful lake. We loved how they tied the history of the home into current decor as well as the upcycled pieces. We had a wonderful time at this property! It has a well stocked kitchen for all your cooking duties. Highly recommended property. It could be a challenge for elderly or disabled but other than that, a wonderful spot for some R&R!

fantastic stay

We loved our week at the lake house and hope to get the chance to go back again. The house is unique, has wonderful energy and is well equipped. Kim and Renee were very available for any questions. The lake is great for swimming and kayaking and made us want to spend most of the time at the house. You will not regret staying here!

Fun, quirky house on the tracks

The house has lots of space, with nooks to read and play, and a great LP selection! Our small dog took a few days to master the spiral steps. We loved the outdoor space also, and got a kick out of watching the train go by up close. The beach area is small (I think the lake is high right now). Swimming and paddling were also great.

Heaven on Earth

We had a wonderful week at Kitty's House. The house was as promised - architecturally interesting and very well equipped. The views of Mt. Katahdin were spectacular and the lake water so refreshing. It was hard to come back to the heat of the mid-Atlantic. The passing train was fun! Bonus for us was co-owner Kim's regaling us with stories of the house and origins of some of its parts. Pure magic on the lake

Kitty's Lake House isn't your standard issue lake camp or rental—it is a living work of art, with surprises in every nook & cranny. It's a magical place, & we were extremely lucky to spend an entire month there during the Quaransummer of 2020. By the time we left, the whole family was deeply attached to this incredible place. The photos are accurate, but they can't capture exactly how unique & quirky (in the best way!) the house is. Kim, one of the owners, built it with salvaged pieces from the stunning old high school in town, so beautiful old doors, windows, chunks of pillars, & cabinets form the fabric of the house. There are nooks and crannies everywhere—the kids loved the secret reading room off the top loft's bathroom, and we all used the library constantly. There's a great collection of records/a big record player, so we listened to albums while enjoying the sunset over the lake most evenings. We have been renting houses for vacations for 15+ years, and the kitchen is one of the best-outfitted we've ever used. Lots of good pots and pans, kitchen gadgets, small appliances, etc., & generally well-supplied with all the things that are annoying to buy for a rental—ziplocks, saran wrap, tinfoil, pantry basics, etc. The bed linens were very nice, too. The views are out of this world—that western light, the sunsets, the mountains in the distance… It’s a gorgeous lake, with crystal clear water & a rocky/sandy bottom. Kim & Renee are excellent hosts. Great communicators, extremely responsive to our needs, fun to get to know, generally A+. We wish we'd had a chance to sit on the deck & share a socially-distanced cocktail! What you should know: We had a 3 year old with us, & that’s about as young a child as I'd want to bring. The staircases are spirals and ladders, so a toddler would be a nightmare to keep in check. (One bedroom/bathroom is on the lowest level of the house, with just three steps up between the front door/living room/dining area & the kitchen/deck level, so there *is* a place to sleep for someone who can't handle the spiral staircase.) There are three bedrooms with walls and two lofts, but the walls don't meet the ceiling all the way (gorgeous exposed beams and wooden ceilings!), so if tight sound insulation is an important consideration for you, this might not be your place. But for a group wanting to hang out somewhere STUNNING & venture out to explore Baxter State Park/the surrounding areas, I can't think of a better home base.

Beautiful Eclectic Home Nestled in the Woods on a Lake in Maine

A group of us were looking for a place to stay in Millinocket for the Millinocket Marathon. We came upon Kitty's place and decided to check it out. We were not disappointed. Both the views and house were beautiful. It was conveniently located to Millinocket, NEOC, and the rest of the Katahdin area. The hosts communicated well and were there for us if we needed them.

Welcome to Kitty's Lake House, the home I designed and built in honor of the memory of my Mother, who was as unique as you will find this home and the breathtaking spot it rests on. I grew up in Millinocket and moved to southern Maine where I work as a high school art teacher. My vacations always brought me home to this amazing place which gave me the incentive to build this one of a kind property.
