We rented this place for two nights, Friday and Saturday, and drove over 3 hours to find that the door code did not work. Called, emailed, texted the owner, no response, called his wife, she didn't know the correct code, and couldn't get a hold of him either. Called the maid, she said we could drive to Oakland to get spare key; she eventually drove to us and let us in, about an hour and twenty minute wait in the driveway staring at a dirt hill the whole time with no bathroom. Owner called to apologize and give me the CORRECT door code right after the extremely nice maid let us in. He credited us $35, which I wish I could have refused because it in no way compensated the two of us for an hour and twenty minutes after that long drive, and wanting to get our vacation started.
Arranging ACCESS to a property is #1 in my book when renting, thus the 1 star. It likely won't happen again but obviously it shows how much respect this Owner has for his tenants. When he FINALLY called he said he was in a movie and didn't get our calls, which is just so lame, and probably untrue. If I had a property on VRBO, and changed the lock box, I would update the entry information that very minute.
Otherwise place is pretty nice, great deck with views, it's small but was adequate for our needs. I just would never rent anything from this Owner again after he wasted our time so ridiculously.
