it is run down and dowdy and is very expensive for what is offered as holiday accommodation
I think it is way over priced for what is on offer. The reception area and lounge is very old fashioned and dowdy. The smell of damp when we entered the main door of our accommodation was overwhelming. The cottage itself was brighter and didn’t smell as bad, but the ground floor bedroom was very cold. The main living area is cramped, with dining, lounging and kitchen in one small room. The kitchen area was well enough equipped although the frying pans were old and burnt black.
The beds were thin, lumpy and squeaky, but the bed linen was fresh.
The Games room was also dowdy, and hardly inviting. The indoor pool was the best facility on site and we made use of it three times. The garden furniture was old, rusty and dirty so we never used that.
The staff we encountered were friendly and one man came and showed us how to turn on the induction hob (which had no instructions) so we could cook an evening meal.
I really think if this place was brought up to a better standard they would be able to offer events for larger groups for eg weddings or parties, as it is quite isolated and private.
Other improvements might be to include some history of the estate rather than an uninteresting personal autobiography of the owner in their booklet. Some drying facilities for clothes/beach wear would be beneficial as the property is so close to the beach at Woolacombe Bay.
The charge for this cottage is exorbitant, given the problems with the estate. I would not return, nor would I recommend it to others, even at half the price. Luckily, we spent most of our time away from the property.
