Relax with the whole family at this stunning cabin nestled in the woods and surrounded by trees and the sound of nature. The home offers sleeping for 8 with large entertaining spaces. Enjoy the wrap around porch, hot tub, fire pit, and local trails for hiking and biking!

Located in Old Fort, nearby activities to Bair Necessities includes visiting the quaint town of Old Fort which is one of fifteen NC Mountain Heritage Trout Cities and is known for its pre-Revolutionary War era history, mountain biking, hiking and waterfall trails. Visit the Mountain Gateway Museum - exhibiting mountain lifestyle and history from the earliest inhabitants to the twentieth century. Summer music programs, festivals and a variety of other activities are also held there and at their outdoor amphitheater. After visiting the museum, head over to the Arrowhead Gallery and Studios which features a wide variety of arts and crafts while also providing classes and workshops! Following a full day of activities, grab some drinks and a bite at Hillman Beer where you can sit creekside on their patio.

Interior Features Include: Rustic, private, log cabin surrounded by trees. Beautiful wood table seating 6 guests with additional seating at the bar top. Full kitchen equipped with all essentials, stainless appliances and drip coffee maker. 2 TV’s in the home

Accommodations: Sleeps 8 guests. The large owners retreat on the main floor has a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom. Upper level offers a queen-sized bed in one room and two full-sized beds in the other. Game room is located downstairs which includes a dart board, foosball table, ping pong table, and other activities to enjoy time together. Satellite TV is provided for movies/tv. There is a futon in the living area downstairs and a third full bathroom.

Exterior Features And Amenities: Wrap around, covered deck with plenty of outdoor seating. Enjoy the firepit area, propane grill, and abundance of trees!

Other fun destinations near this home include visiting the adorable town of Black Mountain! The Little Town That Rocks features local independent stores offering unique shopping opportunities, as well as galleries, music, craft furniture, and breweries in this easily walkable historic district. Rocking chairs are located all around town so you can rest and take in the scenic view. This home is located within 30 minutes of beautiful Asheville, North Carolina where you can spend your day exploring the Biltmore Estate, comedy bus tours, tons of breweries, some amazingly tasty food, and so much more!

TV is provided for movies/tv and the internet is satellite. The satellite internet works well, but weather can sometimes affect the connection.

We have an exterior security camera that watched the front entry.

Great vacation property! The host was very friendly and available to guide and answer questions while booking and while staying at the property. Bair Necessities is a beautiful property with lots of great features. The living areas and bedrooms are all very spacious and inviting. We spent lots of time playing games in the living room around the fireplace. The game room down stairs is a great feature if you have kids. Ours spent hours playing, ping pong, foosball and darts. The hot tub was a great place to relax and refresh after a couple of the challenging hikes we did in the area. The kitchen is nicely appointed with everything you need to cook a meal, whether you are cooking on the stove top, oven or using the Black Stone grill outside. We made almost every meal we ate at the property and everything we needed from, pots, pans, knives, dishes, baking sheets, and even spices were supplied. If you're looking to eat out, Black Mountain and Old Fort both have some nice restaurants with surprisingly diverse fare. Bair Necessities has a list of restaurants in their Home Manual. The two we tried, Pure and Proper and The Bush were both excellent. Bair Necessities definitely gives you the sense of solitude you are looking for. There are several other properties within a few hundred yards but we never heard and rarely saw any neighbors. It is quiet, peaceful and picturesque. The star gazing is top notch. Overall I would highly recommend this property.

Lovely stay in the mountains

Our group of five had a lovely two nights in the mountains to celebrate the New Year. We enjoyed the hot tub, comfortable beds, great kitchen, and ample living space.

The cabin was great, the driveway can be scary at first but it's not bad after the first go and everything was very straightforward as long as you read the material in the binder.

Great communication from the get go! Kept in touch through text messages! Even asked if we wanted any Christmas decorations! (We went dec 21-24)Great Cabin for a multi generational family getaway. Teens could spend time downstairs w all the games while we adulted up stairs. Cooked 3 dinners, had everything we needed!!! We would bring foil, zip lock bags and more togo containers next trip! Had lots of blankets of all warmth through out the house, which was great! We had 2 dogs w us and the cabin was perfect for them. Little grassy area out front where they could play. Just a heads up, there is no typical charcoal/gas grill, it is a blackstone grill. Some may not be used to using that type. Also, it needs a good scrub! We just put foil down and cooked steaks on top of the tin foil. You will see some stink bugs, but if you've been in the woodsy area, you know thats extremely typical for a wood cabin. Highly recommend!!! Everyone from 8 yrs- 70 yrs loved it!

Mountain get away yet close to town

Comfortable cabin with amazing hot tub minutes from town. Drive is steep but all wheel drive navigated it fine without any snow. Beautiful views and wood fireplace was perfect. Nice to be able to bring our dog along.

Fantastic mountain getaway!

The house and view are fantastic! We had a mini family reunion there with our family of 5 plus one set of grandparents as well as some local family that came to visit during the days. The space was perfect, back porch and the basement with the game room were the favorite hangouts for the week. Location is great, remote enough to be peaceful but close enough to everything, would highly recommend this property!

Black Mountain Family Time

We loved the Cabin itself and enjoyed all the amenities that came with it. We don't understand why 2 of the smoke detectors were missing? I would hope they would be replaced before the next rental. We all enjoyed the cabin and would definitely stay there again!

Fun and games

Loved the game area downstairs and hot tub!. Lots of family competition in the evenings playing ping pong foosball and connect four! Lots of good memories made! Great area of outdoor activities all around! Wi-Fi at night not good but we enjoyed the no internet time together!

Beautiful home in the woods!

We spent 6 nights at Bair Necessities. The cabin is tucked back in the woods, thru winding roads. The woods are thick around the cabin so there are no mtn views. Short drive to Old Fort or Black Mountain in the opposite direction. Lots of great eating & shopping in Black Mtn. The house is beautiful and lots of room to move around. The basement had a lot of fun games for adults (kids would enjoy too) and the hot tub was awesome to relax in the evening. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for cleanliness was the amount of spider webs that were inside the house and outside too. They were literally everywhere as if the house hadn't had a visitor in months. We cleaned up the webs that were in our way and it didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves!

Truly a getaway!

An easy trip, with a surprise ending---as this property is tucked back deep in the woods for a perfect remote feeling getaway from the hustle and bustle. The interior of the property was clean, and boasts that true mountain cabin feel. Beds were comfy, amenities were adequate for cooking at home, and the game room was perfect for our pre-teen kids to enjoy while we were there! It was nice to be outside of Asheville and explore the surrounding towns...Old Fort and Black Mountain, and still convenient to go into Asheville for activities. The best surprise was being greeted one morning by two beautiful peacocks on the back deck! This doesnt need to be posted, but my only complaint would be the exterior of the home. There outdoor patio and furniture were covered in bird poop (seems this would be cleaned up a bit) and the porch seemed to be leaning, which didnt make us feel comfortable spending time outside.

Cozy getaway

Overall, we were satisfied with our stay. Pros: wood burning fireplace and wood supply; very spacious; lots of bathrooms; game room. Cons: wasps and dead bugs throughout the inside - contacted the management company on Saturday as I am highly allergic to wasps and they didn't call pest control out until Tuesday and no one ever showed up. Hot tub water was not clean, management company said they would reach out to the owner for part refund and I have not heard back from management company after further inquiry. We were attracted to the remote location, however future renters need to know that the wifi is very slow and minimal. We could connect our phones to it, but not computers. It is not a spot to work from home. The game room could use new ping pong paddles and needs darts for the dart board. The home is beautiful and cozy. It is the perfect getaway for quality screen free family time which is what we were looking for. We enjoyed it, just wish the hot tub would have been working and the pests would have not been an issue, especially for the price.

Sad Situation

The property had three major issues: 1. No Wi-Fi, I was essentially told that it isn’t the property owners issue and they won’t do anything to help. 2. Hot tub was gross and moldy, there were no chemicals in the house to even self service the hot tub, I was offered a refund and it was never given by the owners. 3. The owners didn’t get the last renters trash off the property and a bear destroyed the bear box and damaged my rental car. The owners claimed this was an act of god and would not provide me with the property insurance information. I had to contact VRBO for this information. In short, the property is not as listed and the owners treat you poorly. I asked for a refund since we left the property after the bear attacked. There was garbage all over and the owners were not going to clean it up. The bears would have come back that night and probably started into the house for more food. The owners denied any refund, claiming we should have known the risks of bears attacking and damaging the rental car.

In response to this guest’s concerns, we would like to address the following. The Bair Necessities Cabin is located on the side of a mountain in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, remote properties oftentimes are reliant on Satellite Internet. We are at the mercy of the way the wind blows sometimes. When our team went out to the property the next day, they connected and tested the internet connection and did not experience any issues. We were not notified about the condition of the hot tub upon the guests arrival, sometimes the home sits vacant for a few days, had we known we would have sent a maintenance person immediately, the hut tub did not become an issue until the grievances regarding the bears occurred. There is a sign in the home stating that trash service is on Wednesdays. Therefore there is a bear proof trash can as recommended by the Bearwise.org website. Generally bears are more scared of humans than we are of them. It is springtime, they just woke up and are hungry. As soon as we arrived in the office we sent our team to collect the trash and clean up. Unfortunately the guest already vacated upon our arrival. Generally a rental vehicle company will make insurance claims when an act of nature occurred. We understand that wildlife encounters can be scary. We also believe that concessions can be made in a reasonable fashion. We do believe this guest was not prepared for what a vacation at a cabin in the mountains could entail and we welcome him back for an enjoyable experience.

Cozy Cabin

This cabin exceeded our expectations! There were six of us who stayed here and it was very spacious. There were two peacocks that greeted us on arrival. We loved the big windows which brought in a lot of natural light. The drive to the cabin is quite smooth and the actual driveway is a little steep but we were all able to manage to get up with two wheel drive cars. The cabin was well stocked with firewood which we utilized with the lovely indoor fireplace. The kitchen was stocked with pots/pans and some main supplies like flour, oil, seasonings, etc. The hot tub was amazing and plenty big for the six of us. At night the front porch and deck was amazing for stargazing. 10/10 stay.

Perfect getaway!

Very nice cabin getaway that is a bit off the path. The road to get to the cabin is unpaved in some places and quite steep. The cabin itself is very clean and well maintained. We had no issues with any appliances or supplies. One very important thing for us is to NOT call for help. It's good to have service a available but much better to not need it at all. The peacocks were an unexpected, but welcome surprise. They blended in beautifully into the beauty around us. They were not bothersome, and seemed comfortable around humans. They visited us everyday, in the morning and in the evening. All in all, wonderful stay.

Boy's weekend

Great place to get away in the mountains, property was clean and spacious. Parking for more than 2 vehicles could be potentially challenging and the access road is quite steep. The game room and hot tub were excellent, kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

A little slice of heaven

My husband and I had a wonderful long weekend at Bair Necessities. We enjoyed our coffee on the back deck while listening to the calls of the wild peacocks, hawks, and the chattering of squirrels. Our time at Bair Necessities was so relaxing. We loved having a game room, such fun! We plan on coming back as soon as we can!!

Beautiful

Very spacious, the basement was so cool! The location is fun and deep in nature. A bear got into our lock box so that just needed replaced! The peacocks were so pretty and visited us every once in a while.

Great cabin!

We rented the cabin for spring break and it was the perfect size. And it was close to Old Fort, Black Mountain, hiking and Asheville. There are lots of hiking trails nearby. We loved the fireplace and hot tub. Everything was clean and well taken care of.
