Holiday Home on Ilot Fortier Sea Shore
Take it easy in this unique & peaceful getaway.
Nestled by the seashore on the secluded Ilot Fortier, with a breathtaking view of the west coast mountains, mangroves and sea, this house boasting a large garden and swimming pool promises a relaxing holiday.
In a modest and rather rustic way, this 3-bedroom air-conditioned house, with 2 small bathrooms and a small well-equipped kitchen, offers simple comfort but everything you need for a break from your hectic life.
The Space
If you want a return to the authentic Mauritius of yesteryear, this is the place for you!
And for kitesurfers, Le Morne is nearby! Moreover, if you have a paddle, the direct access to the sea surrounding the islet is an invitation.
In addition, the unfenced pool is easily accessible from the veranda where it is pleasant to relax in the breeze and enjoy the peaceful view.
A forgotten treasure on the west coast of the island, this family home has 3 air-conditioned double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (shower), one of which is en-suite.
Somewhat dated in style, the property is kept clean yet well equipped, including smart TV, WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher etc. for your independent comfort. In addition, our housekeeper comes 3 days a week to lighten the cores you would wish to part with for holidays.
Due to the stairs and unsecured pool, this property is not equipped or insured to cater for babies and young children; however, on your full responsibility, we can hire baby equipment for your family holiday on request.
THE LOCATION: Ilot Fortier
Privileged island lifestyle.
A small hidden island preserved like a jewel by private owners lucky enough to have obtained their share of paradise on earth. This little piece of land is quickly accessible by car via a newly built road and a short invert bridge that connects it to the mainland.
This residential area is very quiet and safe; it is halfway between Tamarin / Black River and La Gaulette / Le Morne, offering the best of both worlds. Authenticity, nature, local lifestyle and enough civilization to feel at home. Restaurants, supermarkets and all amenities are within a 10 minute drive.
There are no white sandy beaches on this particular section of the west coast, but rather a mangrove swamp which is probably the reason why this part of the island has remained wild and well preserved. You still have direct access to the lagoon and by braving the silty seabed, you can enjoy salt water swimming, angling, paddle boarding, snorkeling, etc. without the risk of being bothered by the flood of tourists.
Not too far away, 15 minutes by car, you can choose one of the large white beaches of Le Morne or La Preneuse to get some coral sand between your toes, before returning to your peaceful holiday home.
CAR IS ESSENTIAL: Despite how much you like walking and wish to experience the public transport, we strongly recommend you rent a car. Indeed the nicest beach is not accessible by public transport and there is no taxi station in Ilot Fortier, therefore a motorised vehicle will come very handy!
For our guests, we can offer in addition, car rental services and we may help organising airport transfer shall you need. Just ask!
TROPICAL ISLAND = TROPICAL BUGS: They are tiny and armless, still mosquitoes can be a pest and our local geckoes are not enough to chase them all. While for in-door/out-door the plug-in or coil mosquito repellent are effective, we recommend you use anti-mosquito cream to freely move around, specifically in summer and from dusk.
Having the privilege to live in this region of the island still somewhat preserved and authentic, where the fauna and flora have kept some rights; we share the place with the local animals and insects whose habitats surround us. Inhabitants of sanitized cities, be reassured, the island is pacifist and its small animals too!
Guest access
The house and its exterior are entirely at your disposal to make you feel at home. Spacious enough for entertaining, you will be comfortable, however with consideration for the neighbourhood, large gatherings and late night parties are to be proscribed...
Other thinks to note
Please bring your beach essential that is not provided with your rental; beach towels, swimwear, parasol, etc…
And don’t forget anti-mosquito and sunscreen, pareo and camera! Creation guaranteed of countless precious memories!
Your Rental in Self Catering implies that you replace the consumable products and items you use.
Located in a very peaceful and safe area, all essential commodities are nearby. People living in this part of the island are very kind and helpful. The supermarket is 10 minutes walk from the villa and there are also some local cuisine restaurants in the surroundings and a lively bar to socialise….
There are endless activities to keep you occupied on this side of the island if you wish to get active!
Just to list a few places of interest to visit close by, as well as great activities around the area…
- Hiking Le Morne Mountain
- Kite Surfing or learn to do so, while others read a book at Le Morne public beach instead of watching your performance.
- Boat trip and Picnic to L’ile aux Benitiers
- Sun bathing of course! By the pool or at the beach
- Site seeing Chamarel, the Seven Coloured Earths, Gris Gris Public Beach
- Trekking (or just walking) The Georges National Park,
- Getting some knowledge of the Mauritius fuel at The Rhumerie of Chamarel
- Admiring and Bathing at Rochester Falls or Alexandra Falls
- Stand-up paddle excursions
- Boat/Catamaran trips (including dolphin watch and lunch at sea)
- Big Game fishing
- Adventure Park, zip lining down South
- More Zip lining up West, Walk with Lions, and meet birds at Casela Nature Park
- Horse riding on the beach
- Electro bike excursions
- Scuba diving
Well, you’ll need to stay much longer to get it all done as the list is truly incomplete!
Getting around
We strongly advise you rent a car to be able to visit the maximum of our beautiful island, and we can happily make arrangement for affordable car rentals. But if you are not planning to rent a car or want a folkloric local experience, it will take you about 15 minutes walk to the bus stop.
(Note that buses don’t run by night and don’t go down the small lanes, so not to Le Morne Beach)
