The Bungalow on the Shore in West Sound

Launch your island explorations and / or work remotely from the Bungalow in West Sound! Gorgeous views across Deer Harbor Road to the waters of West Sound. Southern outlooks include the boat masts in the harbor, sunsets to the west, and a bucolic orchard. Totally refurbished, this shoreline home is comfortable, fresh and charming. West sound Marina is just a short stroll down the street for boat moorage and/or Kenmore Air service. Public access on the shore offers beach combing, clamming, and sailing. Orcas Island Yacht Club is next door with summer sailing lessons for kids available in the harbor. Dine on the roomy deck or lounge in the Adirondack chairs with the soothing sounds of the creek next door as it tumbles into the sea. Relax in the cool evening air enjoying the charming ambiance of the propane fire pit. Families will love playing in the large level yard, observing abundant wildlife including families of deer, perhaps an otter, mink or racoon, and a plethora of birds. Cozy and secluded for a couple or small family, yet with sleeping quarters and dining areas for eight or more. On the main level is the master bedroom with king bed and attached master bathroom and second bedroom with queen bed, plus sofa bed in the living room. Second full bath is also on this level. Large loft has an additional two queens and two twin roll-aways for more sleeping options. Loft also serves as a rec room with roomy T.V. viewing area, games, and game/project table. Well-appointed kitchen with new propane range and hood, new refrigerator and propane barbecue right outside. Great room is a terrific gathering place year around with large dining table and cozy propane heating stove. A panel of windows across the space frames the picture-perfect view. Coffee/tea service is provided, as well as all bathroom amenities, and laundry room products. The house has a security camera, solar and power backup and there is an EV charger for your convenience, as well as high speed fiber internet. We love to recommend many local favorite hikes, shops, cafes and beaches for you to explore during your stay. We look forward to hosting you!

Ruth’s property is just gorgeous. We loved getting away to this beautiful oasis with our family for the week. Ruth was very attentive with responses and gave great recommendations of things to do. We would definitely stay again!

Great stay in Orcas

We had a wonderful time at the bungalow in west sound! It was in a great location near the water and close to everything. The house was very comfortable, clean, and had everything we could’ve needed. We’ll be back!

Perfect Island Bungalow

The bungalow was perfect for 4 adults and 2 children. It was clean and matched the description. Ruth was the most responsive and helpful host I've had with any short term rental and I'd recommend staying here to anyone.

Fantastic

I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Orcas Island. It was spotless, well appointed, convenient to our activities and exceeded our expectations. The owner went over and beyond to accommodate and make our stay enjoyable. Our evening meals were amazing on the porch overlooking the water.

Beautiful home and property, well appointed kitchen and it was a plus that paper products and soaps are provided since you have to travel to get here and everything is at a premium on the island. My oldest son loved the hammock and anytime we were home and not visiting our friends he was out there. The only reason for 4 out of 5 starts was the master bedroom mattress is super hard and the dressers in both rooms had sticky drawers, were older, and the antique of the two, were afraid of damaging the mirror on top the drawers were so hard to pull out. Minor things and would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Very homey/nice place to stay and excellent view!

What a wonderful stay we had ! The home was perfect in every way. It was exactly what we needed. Very comfortable home with fantastic views!! Ruth was very helpful with info on places to visit and wonderful restaurants to enjoy a meal. My family and I enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home. Wished we could stayed longer !

Perfect spot on Orcas Island

This was a great place to stay when we visited our adult son and his fiance who live in the Seattle area. The house was very clean and even better than the pictures. Wonderful spot on the deck for morning coffee with a view of the marina. The weather while we were there was spectacular with clear sunny skies every day. It was great to have 2 first floor bedrooms with lots more room on the second floor. The master bath with walk-in shower was beautiful. Eastsound is about a 10 minute drive and 20-30 minutes to more great hiking and views on Mt. Constitution and Moran state park. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Ruth was very responsive to any questions and had a lot of great suggestions for activities and dining.

Beautiful spot!

The house was perfect for us! Very beautiful place and perfect location. West Sound is very peaceful. The beach is amazing and very close. Make your reservations at Kingfish for dinner right now! Fills up fast. We would have loved a few more Adirondack chairs, but otherwise great comfortable furnishings. The house was spotless when we arrived. Truly one of the nicest properties ever.

Fantastic experience!

We loved this house. We come to orcas yearly and this was one of our favorite experiences ever. All is as advertised. Well stocked. Enough room for two families with 4 beds for kids upstairs. Access to waterfront and beach through fun lagoon down a steep but walkable path or else by crossing the street in front of the house.

Exceeded expectations!

The bungalow is a magical property and was the perfect place for our island stay. The house is comfortable, tastefully designed, clean, and stocked with everything you may need. The big open room upstairs is perfect for kids. The outside grounds are great for running around or relaxing in the hammock or by the fire pit, all while taking in the beautiful view of the water. We would definitely come back and stay.

Paradise at Waters Edge

Absolutely pristine. Everything was immaculate. I am not sure there was air conditioning but did not find any. Deer walked across the property daily ! Stunning view of Marina.

Perfect proximity to West Sound Marina

This was the perfect rental for our group of 6 adults and 2 kids. We chose it as it was within walking distance to the West Sound Marina were our boat was docked. Also is a short drive to the ferry terminal and main town. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out, kitchen was fully stocked with all pots/pans/utensils, and the upstairs room was fun for the kids. Those sleeping upstairs did say it was tough to sleep in as the windows had no blinds or curtains. Property was neat and tidy, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. Listing pictures accurately reflected the property and it's offerings.

Great place for groups

This is a beautiful home and property. There are just a few minor things that could be improved. Bathroom rugs are old/stained, we went to play several games and cards but there were missing pieces in most so those could be updated. And providing instructions on how to use the thermostat would have been really helpful! It was still a lovely place. Peaceful!

Great house for family

We had a wonderful stay at The Bungalow! The house was as described with many thoughtful touches for a great stay! Ruth gave us wonderful suggestions on activities to do on Orcas as well. The house was clean and well decorated. We loved the design and the space. Small touches like including soap, kitchen items, laundry detergent were appreciated. The notebook gave area info and clear instructions on the house. We also loved the location. We enjoyed watching boats in the bay and it was a quick drive to town and activities. The deck was a great place to relax. We were visited by deer and a peacock! Thanks for a great family getaway!

Quiet stay in Westsound

We typically stay closer to Eastsound, but prices there for 2022 were so out of control that we decided to try this part of the island. It's MUCH quieter, and our kids missed having somewhere to easily and safely ride bikes. Ruth's house itself is very well laid out for the group we had (parents, grandparents, 5yo twins) - the loft space is beautiful and airy, and the living room furniture was comfy and seated all of us. The kitchen is due for a facelift and was missing a few things (salad spinner and I can't remember what else), but serviceable. We loved the fire table and outdoor dining area and big grassy yard. Highlight for the kids was lots of sea glass to be found on the beach across the street - quieter has its advantages!

loved this location

very comfortable house in a beautiful location. we had a busy wedding weekend and were able to relax here. easy access to other locations on the island for exploring and a quiet place to return to at the end of the day.

Originally from Ireland and Germany, we met traveling and we love to put bags on our backs and explore other countries. In our travels we ended up on Orcas and fell in love with the island.

After many years of visits by land and sea, we finally have our own piece of paradise here and want others to enjoy what we love so much about this place: the beaches, hiking, sailing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, farm to table food, local wine, wildlife, birding, the lakes and the island pace of life.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

The hamlet of West Sound is a peaceful neighborhood overlooking the bay, with West Sound Marina, community docks, and public access beach. Beach access is across Deer Harbor Road and 30 yards to the west. The Kingfish Inn is a short walk for delicious food and drink. Conveniences such as stores and so on are located in Eastsound Village, five miles away. You can walk to some of the local produce farms from the house and we highly encourage it. Turtleback Mountain South Trailhead for a splendid hike is just 1.5 miles down the road.
