Welcome to Harbor Island! The Blue Mermaid is the perfect place for you, your friends and family to relax and make memories. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house has the bonus of a 2nd story bunk/play room, screened back porch and is 100 yards from the beach.
Bedrooms have 1 King, 1 Queen and 2 twin beds. The 2nd story has 2 additional twin beds. Games, books and movies are available for families to spend time together. The home is everything you'd expect a beach house to be. Clean, comfortable with all the amenities you'll need for your vacation.

Peaceful and Relaxing

The host was timely and accommodating. The house is spacious and clean. We really enjoyed morning coffee on the front deck and evening naps on the back porch. Well worth it!

The Blue Mermaid is an ELITE property on Harbor Island

Our stay was absolutely wonderful and perfect. The Blue Mermaid was clean and extremely spacious. The hosts were marvelous from the booking through checkout. We were there to be married in the beach and they even surprised us with a bottle of champagne to help celebrate. There simply isn’t enough space to convey how wonderful this location, this property, and these hosts, truly are. Thank you for a wonderful vacation and wedding experience!!

Perfect for large families!

Our family enjoyed staying here. It was large enough to handle 5 kiddos with plenty of extra space. There is a lot to do on the island to keep the family busy. The golf cart and kayak were a hit with the whole family. Be sure to check out the clubhouse for daily activities they have for guests. Food trucks were always there for some tasty treats. We will be visiting again soon. Thank you for making your property family oriented!

Fantastic Beach House

This house had everything we needed, and more: the photos don't do it justice. The kitchen was well stocked and included a massive fridge/freezer, plenty of appliances, and spare pantry supplies. The large living room was filled with books and games and comfy chairs. All the beds were clean and comfortable. Upstairs there was a suite, perfect for a family with young children. Tons of sheets and towels. Outside was a large screened porch, perfect for just chilling. There were bikes, beach toys and chairs, a wagon, even a kayak! It was a very short walk to the beach, though a bit further to the pool, especially with small kids. A new store has opened near the pool which is handy for last minute supplies, and there were food trucks each afternoon. Enjoy your stay- we did!

Relaxing family vacation

The house was really nice! We had 8 adults (19 and older) and a 3 year. We all felt like there was plenty of space for us. There are tvs in each room so everyone could watch something different if they wanted too. The beds were comfortable. My 3 year old I put in a pack n play (that was provided at the house) in one of the closets because there wasn’t too much space around the king bed for it. Worked out nicely! The kitchen had all the pots and pans we needed, even a big one for our low country boil! We really enjoyed having access to the golf cart and the kayak! The beach was nice, very calm, so if you are looking for big waves, or more than a little wave, you probably want to go to a different beach. It was nice for us because we could use floats and not get dumped over every two seconds and my 3 year old could walk out in the water and not be afraid of it. Also the water is pretty shallow for quite some distance so you don’t have to worry about it just dropping off. The pool was nice, a decent size and the pickle ball court was nice on the breaks from the storms that we had our last day there. The only down side was the bugs…but there was bug spray in the golf cart and on the back porch so it was manageable. My husband didn’t like that there wasn’t very many golf courses close by but I was fine with it. Lol. Overall a nice place, very close to the beach and very relaxing!

Great beach experience

A great beach location. Helpful owners who have thought through the needs of the occupants. Local seafood boat dock close by. Good kitchen. Also, very close to a good seafood restaurant. Comfortable house with games, bicycles, kayaks, golfcart. Hunting Island state park, hauntingly beautiful, nearby. What else do you need?

Best Harbor Stay

Our favorite trip to Harbor by far! We enjoyed cooking each night and spending quality time with our family. We also loved days at the beach and night golf cart rides. This house had everything we needed and more and was beautiful and CLEAN!

It was great!!

Great location, clean, kitchen was very nice and the under cabinet lights added a very nice touch. Front deck did get hot but, manageable. The neighborhood and pool were the cleanest and very well kept. The pool was nicest public/neighborhood we have ever experienced. Granddaught wants to go back next year.

Nice little getaway

Nice little house for a smaller family. Owners had one room closed off. Be careful and cautious for your little ones. The house butts right up to the marsh, and one day a 3ft snake fell from the ceiling of the screened in porch. Don’t try to do anything outside in the back yard without bug spray. We got ate up by mosquitoes to the point where we just stayed inside. Other than that, it’s a nice little relaxing vacation home.pretty much everything we needed was provided. And Not too far from the beach access.

Great family time off

We really enjoyed our time off at the house. We enjoyed sightseeing in the nearby park and nearby cities. The house is very comfortable and clean and has everything you need. The host is great and it was very easy to communicate with her. Thanks for sharing your house!!

Lovely, quiet neighborhood close to the beach

This was a great house for our long weekend, family vacation!! One row back from the beach with the beach access super close too. We thoroughly enjoyed the house - especially the kids in the upstairs room! It’s not as new or updated as some but it was clean and perfect for our needs!

Great family place

We loved the communication with the owners and the ease of the process. The property was way above expectations (which weren’t low to begin with). My siblings and my self and our partners had a wonderful time in this lovely, spacious house with excellent amenities. I will be looking to book this property with these owners again. Highly recommend!!!!

Family Vacation July 2021

This house was great for our family vacation needs. I had grandchildren that stayed upstairs in the bonus room and that worked very well. It's not on the beach ,but not far in walking distance to two beach entrances. When we first rented the property it was owned by different people and had 2 golf carts. We were excited about those for trips to the pool, but we ended up not having them ,because of repairs. The new owners transition well for rental purposes. The owners are going to update inside and I'm sure it will look awesome when they are finished. It's nice now, but new more comfortable furnishing will be great. They had many different beach items to use if you need them. We brought most of ours, but it there if you need it. This was our best family vacation yet at Harbor Island. We will definitely consider staying here again. Thank you, Anthony and Joanne

Amazing!!

We have been taking family trips to the beach every summer for almost 10 years now and this house was definitely one of our favorites so far. I loved that all the main bedrooms are downstairs and the upstairs is a huge bonus area with tons of beds so we were able to put all the kids up there together LOL. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. There are tons of games, books, and beach accessories to use. And the location was great! It's right across from the part of the beach where all the dolphins seemed to be hanging out. I couldn't even keep count of how many we saw! The house did change owners after we rented it but before our stay and when we rented it a golf cart was included, but was no longer available during our stay. It was really disappointing but the new owner made sure to let us know ahead of time. And there were several bikes and a kayak so we made the best of it. For anyone with a bad back, I would recommend you bring a padded mattress topper. Between my husband and I, we've had 3 back surgeries and the beds were so firm we couldn't get comfortable. I'm not complaining because I know there isn't a mattress in the world that will work for everyone, just a heads up for anyone else with a back like mine. The only other recommendation is for the new owners, it would be awesome if you closed in the outdoor shower. With only 2 bathrooms and everyone coming in from the beach at the same time, it helps to have an extra place to wash off and change without people being able to see you :-).

Relaxing time at the beach

Harbor Island was beautiful. The house was just a couple minutes walk to the beach and the weather was perfect! Everyone had plenty of space to just relax and enjoy the week. Perfect spot.

Updating a Great Spot

We had been to this spot under previous ownership and loved the huge marsh-side back porch and perfect family layout. The new owners upgraded the Wifi, which matters for me as an online college instructor that worked during both stays. We love Harbor Island, the full time residents are so sweet and welcoming. We enjoyed biking, tennis, basketball and the beach during our stay. We hope to come again. Make sure you check out the gorgeous white birds in the fresh water lagoons during your stay. It feels like something you would only see in a zoo. It is awe inspiring to be so close to the beauty of the low country.

Harbor Island is the perfect place for you, your family and friends to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the low country. This region is steeped in history and culture, close enough to Savannah and Charleston for a day trip, far enough away to relax from traffic.
The low country barrier islands were used as a place for inland families to escape the Summer heat. There were "beach camps" set up along the islands and marshes, many only accessible by boat. The Blue Mermaid pays homage to these historic getaways, low key and easy going. That being said, the home is fully supplied for your vacation needs. The front porch is where you'll watch the sunrise, the screened back porch for the sunset. Linen services are provided, including sheets, bath and beach towels. The kitchen is equipped for all your family get-togethers, with enough cookware for those family breakfasts and even a low country boil! Bicycles, beach toys, boogie boards, a kayak and a golf cart are available for guest use. We also provide a Hunting Island park pass for 1 vehicle.
As premier hosts, we listen to our guests and are committed to your experience. That being said, the home has been updated for 2024. It's been painted and equipped with more comfortable, updated furniture. Tables are provided for outdoor dining and new linens for your comfort. A golf cart is available for carrying your gear to the beach has been added at our guests request. Please note that use of the golf cart requires the purchase of $79damage/liability insurance through VRBO.

The Blue Mermaid is our own personal getaway. It's equipped to be comfortable and fun. The artwork has been collected from all over the country and brings back great memories. Please note that the use of electronic video and audio surveillance equipment on this property, including baby monitors, is prohibited without the express written consent of the owners prior to the reservation. Any violations of this rule will be subject to a monetary fine and reported to the local authorities.

Harbor Island is a private island with restricted entrance. All vehicles must display a vehicle pass to enter. These passes must be ordered in advance. Your rental includes one vehicle pass with each reservation. Additional passes may be ordered at an additional charge. Please let us know in advance how many vehicles will be in your party.
