The Kauhale Makai Resort (Village By The Sea) is an ocean front property conveniently located in Kihei on Maui's leeward shoreline. Nearby beaches offer calm waters for swimming, snorkeling, and all your favorite ocean activities. It's a short ten minute walk to popular shops and restaurants and the perfect jumping off place for exploring the island.

Located next to Waipuilani County Park with access to six tennis courts and the coral Waipuilani Beach, perfect for morning jogs, long walks, and quiet sunbathing. Calm ocean mornings are popular times for kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and canoe club activities. Trade wind afternoons are popular with wind, kite, and wing surfers. You will enjoy this beach-side location's gorgeous ocean views, famous Maui sunsets, and view of Maui's dormant Haleakala volcano year around. The waters just off our shore are Maui's Humpback Whale Sanctuary. If you happen to be here from December to May when the Humpback Whales make their annual migration from Alaska you will have a front row view of these majestic creatures winter playground where sightings happen daily.

This renovated condo has a private ocean and mountain view lanai (balcony). Fully equipped kitchen and central air conditioning. Tasteful furnishings and two queen beds. We have tried our best to provide you with all the comforts of home with no less than 4 ways to enjoy your favorite cup of coffee. Including an adjustable coffee grinder, drip coffee maker, french press, stove-top espresso maker, and pour over pot. You should find everything you need to prepare all your favorite meals should you choose to dine in. We have also provided many items to help you enjoy Maui's most popular beaches and activities. You will find beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, beach blanket, ice chest with cold packs, umbrella and even some beach toys for kids.

Amenities at Kauhale Makai feature a gold putting green, swimming pool, kid’s pool, spa hot tub, volleyball court, and two shuffleboard courts for your enjoyment and exercise. There are four gas grill barbeques and tables to dine outdoors. It is a quiet setting for people who want the feeling of being away from the crowds yet very close to restaurants, shops, and popular beach parks.

Loved every minute of time in this location!Very clean and orderly and completely lacking any problems. The host is attentive and responsive to every question I had about best places to eat or visit. The pool and hot tub were as clean and comfortable as the condo. I will definitely make every effort to return to this condo and host my next visit. My host even seemed to control the weather, making this stay beyond excellent!

Great place, very clean, good view of beach and sunset. Everything we needed is there, cookware, dishes, nice fridge, even containers for leftovers. All kinds of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores within a few minutes' drive. Fantastic place to stay!

Beautiful condo in a great location

Condo was perfect, great beach view from the balcony, especially at sunset. Location was very central to the island, everything was just a short drive away. Close to town, so it was easy to run out and get food or anything we needed. Would definitely recommend and return!

Beautiful view

We enjoyed our stay very nice place. It was perfect for my husband and I. Being able to sit out and enjoy the sunrise was A+. I had an issue and it was quickly resolved. The places he recommended were great.

Fantastic condo

We had a fantastic stay at Shawn’s place. He is super responsive and answered any and all questions we had. The complex is beautiful. Great views of the ocean and sunset with excellent pool and hot tub area. BBQ area is also set up well. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Stay

My daughters and I had a wonderful time at this condo. Shawn was helpful with tips from the time I booked and available anytime I had questions, not just about the condo but the island as well. The condo was fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy a day at the beach. 5/5 would recommend.

Great location

We enjoyed the location and the bed was super comfortable. No great storage as there was no dresser to put clothes in so had to live out of suitcase. Could use a better beach umbrella as the one provided does not have a cork screw bottom and flies away in any wind.

I'm so glad you liked the new memory foam mattress. It is a personal favorite and we've had such good feedback about it. Regarding the umbrella, in Hawaii we use the bag that the umbrella comes in as a sand bag. We fill the bag with sand and use the loop to attach it to the umbrella and place it on the windward side and it holds the umbrella in heavy wind. As I mentioned we are waiting for the last pieces of furniture to be delivered. It's been months and we are still waiting. I am sorry you felt you that we deserved a negative review for these things. They will arrive soon. I hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise we would love to have you back again.

Great location and view

We enjoyed our stay in this 5th floor condo. It was clean, quiet and well stocked for all our cooking needs. Plenty of onsite parking and respecting neighbors. Beautiful yard and beachfront for easy access to get the toes in the ocean. Great place to stay to get anywhere on the island too! While on the deck, we had the Sunrise to your left and sunset to your right. We definitely would return!

Great stay in Maui

This was a wonderful jumping off point for our stay in Maui. The condo was clean and well equipped. Shawn was always available and very attentive. One thing to be aware of, the pool was a little smaller than what I expected based on the pictures in the listing but it was clean and great for a quick dip! Also, the beach in front of the condo is rocky but a short drive will get you to some very beautiful and fun beaches!

I'm so happy you had a nice vacation. Please come back again soon. Just a little information about the beach for those who don't know. The beaches change all the time. We had a storm recently that carried away the sand which is why it was a little rocky. Little by little the sand will be deposited back on the beach. Some parts of the year it is a big wide sandy beach and after a south swell it will be much smaller. The big waves wash away the sand. It constantly ebbs and flows. Most of the time it's a pleasant sandy beach. It's always great for a stroll. The bonus after the storm is all the shells are exposed and deposited on the beach for all the collectors out there.

Perfect Place to Stay in Kihei!

The property was just as advertised. All pictures and descriptions were accurate. Shawn was responsive within minutes and addressed all questions and requests. Complex is safe, quiet and right on the ocean. We watched beautiful sunsets steps away from the beach or from our balcony. Plenty of free parking. Close to everything in Kihei. We enjoyed our stay and hated to leave. We would definitely stay here again.

The condo was as advertised, just like the photos. The host was great, made sure to provide recommendations on places to eat, and even provided a free coupon code for free grocery delivery to the condo. The complex was clean and quiet. The beach and pool were also nice. It was nice having a beach that we could just walk to, plus the condo had beach chairs, umbrellas, and a cooler, everything needed for a beach day! I would highly recommend this property to any couple looking for somewhere to stay in Maui.

Great from the start

Everything about the stay was excellent! As soon as we booked, Shawn sent an email with tips for our vacation activities. He responded to all messages promptly. The condo is great - view, comfort, etc. The kitchen is well-stocked - even had a blender! Location was away from the hustle of touristy section of S. Kihei but within short distance to restaurants, etc. We watched the sunset from the beach just yards from the condo. Would stay here again!

Nice condo with ocean views

I enjoyed morning coffee on the balcony looking at the ocean. This condo was perfect for myself and my husband. Nicely decorated and fully stocked kitchen. The bed was comfortable and you have access to the balcony. The sink and mirrors are outside of the shower and toilet which is great. We used some of Shawn’s great recommendations for activities and dinners. A nice pool area and grounds. I would rent again

Shawn was an awesome host and communicator! The place was clean and nice beyond expectations. They had everything! And even thought of everything we need. Including the ice chest (with ice packs!!) Wonderful!

Quiet, well maintained building and grounds. The condo itself is updated, well stocked and clean. Shawn was always available to answer any questions and provide recommendations for restaurants and activities. The view from the lanai is nice for the ocean and for the mountain. You can walk a long way down the beach and the sunsets are worth it! We're not sure when we'll come back to Maui, but this will definitely be where we look first. Thanks Shawn!

Kauhale Makai is resort complex located on the south shore of Maui. The beach looks west giving it a unique perspective looking out towards the islands of Moloka`i, Lanai and Kaho`olawe. This west facing beach grants sweeping ocean views and spectacular sunsets. The beach is a long beach that is often a resting place for the many sea turtles. It's a wonderful beach for taking long walks. It is a short drive to town for world class restaurants and shopping. Yet, close enough to walk and just far enough away to not be distracted by the hustle and bustle of the busier areas of Maui.
