The Mermaid's Grotto at Nags Head
Stunning Oceanfront Sunrise views await you at this oceanfront private home in an ideal location in Nags Head, NC. Just remodeled, this home sleeps 10 & features 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 1 outdoor shower. The primary bedroom is up with a private balcony to enjoy spectacular sunrise views and features a king size bed & coffee bar and private bath. The 2 story Great Room features a wall of windows, a 77" OLEG TV & gas fireplace. Ideal location with quick access to everything you need, less than 1 mile Fishheads fishing pier & restaurant. Close to the Bodie Island Lighthouse and lots of shopping, restaurants, mini golf, The Wrights Brother's Monument & Jockey's Ridge State Park. Have an electric vehicle? There are supercharging stations within 15-20 minutes of the house. The outdoor grill is charcoal on lower level & a small electric grill on back deck. Please let me know if you are celebrating a special occasion. The best photographers, in my opinion, on the island are Beth & Wes Sneider. Ask me for their contact information. For babies: There is a rocking chair in the upper-bedroom as well as both chairs in the Great Room are swivel & Rockers. I do have an infant swing stored in the bunk room closet.

This is definitely a top tier Nags Head rental. It is really well maintained, clean, bright and pleasant inside. Super family room and spacious kitchen area with high quality appliances, great dishes, cookware, etc. Gigantic TV in family area. You can sit out on the deck and listen to the ocean waves. From the MBDR on the top floor has its own deck that looks over the dunes to see the beach and ocean. We did not want to walk over the dunes to the beach so we walked 1 house over to the public walkway. We could fit 4 cars in the driveway. One of the nicest rentals we have had in the OBX. We loved our stay at Mermaid's Grotto! The house was perfect for our family of 5. Everything was so beautifully decorated and so well stocked. It was close to shops and restaurants and many things to do, but also away from it all in the beauty of the south of Nags Head. Really the best of both worlds.Nadine was an amazing host. She was great to work with and very easy to communicate with. All the thoughtful details of the rental were noticed and appreciated. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish there was a larger entryway into the house to get sand off and leave items before transitioning into the living room and house. It was tight and made it tricky to enter from the beach sandy.But overall it was an amazing experience! We would go again.

Fantastic property. The house was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect- right on the beach dunes, just steps from the beach. Nadine is a fabulous host, extremely responsive. I would highly recommend the property.

What an amazing home! The location, decor, cleanliness, fully stocked kitchen, ocean/beach front, and quiet location make this a 5 Star destination. Just a short drive to Fish Heads restaurant and another 5 or so minutes to all shopping, restaurants, and entertainment Nags Head has to offer. The sunrises are something not to be missed from the primary suites balcony. Just a great way to start the day. You may find bigger, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a home that checks as many boxes as the Mermaids Grotto.

Great location and space!

Nadine's property is in the perfect location...right by the beach and in a bit quieter part of the Outer Banks. Exactly what our family of 6 was hoping for. We'd definitely stay here again!Some things not in other reviews / photos that might be helpful:- The kitchen is VERY well stocked with pots, pans, utensils. The stove / oven is gas. The electric grill on the patio works better than you'd think!- If you want a beach fire, get a permit. Easy to find online and available after 5:30pm if little wind.- Reserve your linens (sheets, towels, etc.) in advance!- No restaurants or other things within reasonable walking distance - just the beach! Plenty of good restaurants and grocery stores within a 15min easy drive. - Nadine is VERY responsive. Don't hesitate to message her.- There is a beach access point about 30 yards from the house. Don't run over the dunes, no matter how tempting :) - The house has plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, etc. We didn't do it, but you may want to look at also renting (or buying a cheap) larger sun shade. - Sunrises from the top balcony were the best!

Perfect Place to Relax and Enjoy the Ocean

We visited this home for a four day golf and fishing trip! It was wonderfully decorated, clean, and the perfect set-up with the private upper bedroom within the upper loft area and the three other bedrooms (all good sizes) included one with bunk beds together for a larger group. The owner was very accommodating and a great communicator. Nags Head Golf Links was close by and a beautiful course with insanely amazing views of the water! I would suggest to any families or adults on an excursion that they rent this exquisite home, we also look forward to coming back...soon!

Great family fun on the beach

The house design, layout, and care in details and proximity to beach were all great! We especially loved the children books, watering color paint books, and the sea shell poster under the kitchen table to match our sea shells to. We were also big fans of the Captain Stumpy the Pirate Cat books and ended up buying our own from the Manteo bookstore. Overall a big hit with our daughter. Thank you for a lovely stay

Mermaid’s Grotto

The Mermaid’s Grotto is in a perfect location. Very easy access to the beach and lots of space to spread out on the beach. The decor of the house is fabulous and the communication with the owner was easy and quick. We would definitely recommend this beach house to family and friends and hope to return.

Beach family getaway

This property is stunning. We especially loved the spacious living area, large kitchen island, master suite on the upper floor with private balcony & coffee bar, and outdoor shower. In addition, communication with the owner was superb. We continued to notice so many thoughtful details throughout our stay which made us feel exceptionally welcomed and informed.

Family Get Away

Family get away with our 2 childern, our Daughter inlaw, my wife's mother, and 4 grandkids. The trip for my wife and I was about time with the grandkids. Plan accomplished. This home is right on the beach, we had plenty of space for all of us. The owner was great with information and following up on questions. I would recommend this owner and home. Great place and location.

OBX Getaway

This house was fantastic and Nadine, the owner, was a wonderful host who was easy to communicate with when we had questions leading up to the trip! She even left flowers and an anniversary card for my husband and I who were celebrating our 10th anniversary. The pictures of this rental hold up in person. It was a beautiful home and location! I loved Nags Head as a destination as well. You are basically in the middle of the outer banks so day trips up to places like Corolla, Duck, Rodanthe, etc are easy jaunts. The area where the house is located felt peaceful and our beach was great for the family - not overly crowded or busy. Yet, where we were was fast and easy access to shops/shopping. A fantastic trip, a wonderful home, we would absolutely stay here again! A few things I’ll note for people who are considering this home because these are things I would find helpful to know or have pointed out to me: If you are in an electric vehicle (one family member has a Tesla) there are supercharging stations within 15-20 minutes of the house. Reminder this home has 2 full bathrooms (one for the rooms downstairs and one for the main suite upstairs). Wasn’t an issue for our crew but I think important to note if you are bringing multiple guests. Note to either bring your own linens or rent them since this is not included. We did a combination of both. The kitchen was well appointed and has a gas stove. It was easy to use. The grill outside is charcoal only.

The perfect sojourn

It was like a private writing retreat to reenergize and reconnect w old friends. It was exactly what I hoped for. I could stay forever perched on the upper balcony and ask for nothing more.

Beautiful home in a great location

We loved our stay at the Mermaid’s Grotto. Spotlessly clean and very well appointed; a lovely comfortable home so well cared for by the owner. Excellent response to our questions, and we even had a beautiful doe visit us on a starlit night. Would definitely return!

Beautiful House

The house was just beautiful!! The upstairs master suite ( where I stayed ) was spacious and the views of the ocean each morning when I woke up was stunning! You could not see the ocean from main floor ( where living room and kitchen were located due to the dunes being so high. This is not something that the home owner has control over , but should be noted in the description . We loved staying here! It should be noted also if you are unfamiliar with the outer banks , that the location of house is a good 10-15 minutes of any stores, rest ., etc. I loved being right on the beach ! Thank you for an amazing week in OBX!

Memorable week

The Mermaid’s Grotto made for a beautiful summer get-a-way. The house is decorated perfectly for the area and is cozy and clean. My family and I loved the location (away from the bustling tourist activity) but close enough that we weren’t far from anything. The owner was very responsive, helpful, and accommodating. She even made a mid-week coffee machine purchase despite providing a Keurig! We’d definitely visit this rental again!

Stunning renovation of this oceanfront home is matched by thoughtful details by expert host. Well-stocked kitchen, high end appliances, plush beds, giant tv (if you can tear yourself away from ocean gaze), even clear labels on light switches to make it all convenient. Top floor master has deck oceanfront too.My 17 year old doggie snoozed away while my brother and I escaped the city/Zoomathons. High end rental; responsive host. A+

Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed our stay! The house was beautiful, just as it appeared in photos. Nadine was prompt getting back to us when we had a question. There really wasn't anything she didn't think of, laundry room, games, plenty of dishes and pans, comfy furniture & beds, etc. We would definitely stay there again!

7 years ago I explored the Outer Banks from top to bottom and fell in love with this area. After being a top Realtor in the Lake Norman, Charlotte area, I'm ready to downshift to a quieter life on the ocean. I've traveled to many of the US beaches, Caribbean & Hawaii and it is my opinion that Nags Head offers the greatest variety of things to do with unsurpassed natural beauty. I purchased this home in November 2021 and have spent the last 8 months doing a total renovation on this home & love it so much my fiancée and I have decided to make it our primary residence. Before I make this my permanent home in the next year or two I've opened it up for other families to enjoy!

This luxury home was renovated in 2022 with soaring ceilings, beautiful Kitchen & bathroom shower tile, LVP flooring, high end mattresses & state of the art TVs in every bedroom. It's location is ideal just 4 miles from the Virginia Dare Bridge which shortens your trip to your OBX vacation. 3.8 miles from the Bodie Island Light house; 12 miles to The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge; 6 miles to The Oregon Inlet. This beach is located at the end of a cul-de-sac which is does not offer public access, so it tends to be less crowded.
