The Bear River House is a century old farm house that has been completely renovated in 2022. The Bear River House is divided into two sides: The Main House and The Honey Suite. Both are separate and private, or for larger groups, both sides can be booked. This is The Main House. It is just south of Downtown Petoskey near Shopping, Restaurants, the Casino, Petoskey Snowmobile Club, North Country Trail, Petoskey Youth Soccer Association, River Road Sports Complex, Bear River Canoe Livery, Skiing, North Central Michigan College,. Hospital, and Little Travers Bay.

Definitely a clean house. Host communicated well. My coworkers that I traveled with enjoyed the property. Not far at all From activities/food. And for the price, not a bad spot. The only thing holding it back from a five star review, is the explanation more clear about sharing the entire building. Photos do seem to give extra volume to certain sections of the house. But not necessarily a bad thing just took us by surprise. We were traveling for work so really gave us a place to make our meals comfortably. And gave us a place to hang out at the end of our day. And again for the price, not too uncomfortable for sleep.

Our family stayed at this property over Thanksgiving. While the home appeared clean on arrival, we immediately discovered a significant bug infestation, especially in the second bedroom where our children were supposed to sleep. Pest control was sent out the next day, but we were unable to use the home during treatment, and no cleaner was sent afterward to remove the dead bugs left behind.Throughout the stay, we also experienced ongoing utility and maintenance issues. The water repeatedly went out due to breakers flipping, even when very little was being used in the home. The upstairs bathroom was only usable as a half bath because the shower rod would not stay in place. The downstairs toilet frequently gurgled and splattered despite not being in use, which created additional sanitation concerns.The final issue was the presence of rodents. The host provided mouse traps as the solution, but the problem continued. At that point, we felt the home was no longer suitable for our family, and we ultimately had to leave and stay in a hotel for the remainder of our trip. This resulted in unexpected expenses, including replacing over 500 worth of food and paying for hotel and dining costs.The host offered only one night’s refund despite the property being unusable for multiple days. I’m sharing this review so future guests are aware of the issues we experienced. I hope the host is able to address these concerns for future stays.

The Bear House

The old farmhouse has been renovated with a cute bear theme. It’s location is convenient for trips to the beaches, trails and nice local towns. The only downside was the ventilation, with no A/C. Otherwise, nice dining area with games for families indoors and out, nice open kitchen and laundry room.

Not what i expected.

The owner messaged me about three days before arriving, saying it might be delayed because of a busy cleaning schedule. We arrived about an hour and 40 minutes late and still hadn't gotten into the house. At that time, she told me it would be available no later than 7 (three hours after check-in). At 6:50, I asked about getting into the house. She didn't respond until after 7 and said it wasn't going to be ready for 30 more minutes. This wasn't the start to the vacation I wanted. Once we got in, the place was hot. They had two small AC units that helped with the heat but didn't cool the whole house. The plumbing was so bad we couldn't flush the downstairs bathroom toilet. The coffee bar that they talked about had coffee and half-and-half that was bad. The location wasn't bad, and that was a really good thing for us. We will never stay again nor recommend it for anyone.

There is no a.c units of any kind in this house. The temperature reached up to 98 degress with only 2 old box fans to keep the whole house cool. This house is not worth the money they are charging unless its in the winter time.
