Cozy cottage on the Chesapeake Bay

Quiet peaceful home by the Chesapeake Bay. Wooded area with Loblolly pines and oak trees. Beautiful walking areas. Bird watchers dream...Bald eagles, Osprey, bluebirds, martins, buntings, woodpeckers, swans, geese, ducks, and migratory birds. Incredible views of the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Pianktank.

Wake up to the sun rising along the bay and relax watching the sunset on the bay. Can go fishing off the dock. A small grill is available for cooking near the picnic table. The area is full of mariner history back to Captain John Smith visiting Gywn's Island. The charming area still thrives from oysters and crab watermen. Water activities nearby. Be sure not to miss the local markets and seafood festivals

Enjoyed a relaxing anniversary weekend. Did some window shopping in Kilmarnock and enjoyed great seafood at a number of area spots. The house was a comfortable home base for our excursions and a great place to watch the wind/rain on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Wonderful trip to the coast

The property was easy to find using the directions provided by the host. The house was very clean and had everything and more that we could need. The view is definitely the star of the show. It was absolutely beautiful. We had a wonderful stay and would love to go back again someday!!

Love the new couches! It made the home way more comfortable. Had a problem with Roku but Glenda worked with my daughter to get it fixed. Can't beat the view!!!

Love this house

the week was HOT!!! (100 degrees) but the house was cool, clean, comfortable and well stocked. The view of the river/bay was breathtaking. Secluded and quiet which is what we were looking for. My husband wants to come back and he's hard to please. We had good communication with the owner when we had questions. Amazed how well-stocked this property was. We'll be back!!!

What a view

Our stay was really great. We took a long weekend trip on our motorcycles to visit the area. The home was great and had everything we needed, and I can’t say enough about the view. Sitting outside in the morning and drinking coffee was wonderful. We saw dolphins out in the river so cool. We visited the town of Mathews and ate there twice. Restaurants had good food. Went to Gwynn’s island and ate at the hole in the wall it had good food and it’s a beautiful island. We visited the town of Smithfield and Gloucester great places to take a ride. Thanks to Glenda for letting us stay in her home and we would definitely stay here again.

My third stay and can't wait to return!

I enjoy this cottage so much that I have booked a month-long visit twice and hope to do it again next year. The cottage is located at the end of the Piankatank River where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay. The views from the cottage, deck, and pier are lovely with incredible sunsets and sunrises. It is well stocked, very clean and comfortable. The hostess is quick to respond if there are any issues that need attention. To sum it all up, the stay there is almost like being at home but much more peaceful!

Perfect Spot

We have stayed at Glenda’s place multiple times and love it every time. It’s the perfect place to reconnect with my family and enjoy the peace of the Rivah. Everything is clean and comfortable and well stocked. Thank you Glenda!

Can't wait to return

This has become my favorite place for rest, relaxation and renewal. I always feel at home while at the cottage and have come to love Matthews County.

Wasn’t what we expected!!!

When we got to the property, the neighbors came out with their dogs and watched us as we unloaded our car. When we entered the house we noticed that the front door and the living room didn’t have curtains!!! The whole feeling of this place felt weird, we decided not to stay at all

Perfect weekend

The house was perfect for our weekend. Great views! The house had everything we needed. Appreciated all the extras like toilet paper, paper towels, condiments, coffee, and more. Super easy to check out. Sidenote, the only TV is in the master bedroom. Would probably be useful if the TV stand had wheels so it could be pulled into the living room for everybody to watch a movie. The house is 15 minutes away from a small winery, with tons of wine and food options and the town of Matthews, with a lot of antique shops.

Great Weekend

Beautiful views, plenty of room, and an amazing dock. We went crabbing and caught lots of blue crab right off the dock. I absolutely loved our time here and would definitely come back again. Thank You!

Based our stay here to visit Mathews Market Days and visit surrounding areas. Began and ended our days at the dock area. Gorgeous waterfront views. Quiet area. Would rather see a sofa in the living area.

Great Stay!

Second time we’ve stayed. My niece has stayed here before, too. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here, even though we spent most of it away from the house with family nearby. We did get to see the spectacular sunset one night though. It was amazing!

Quick Get-A-Way to the Bay

Check-in and check-out was very easy and clearly explained. The house was very clean and tidy, no musty smell at all. Glenda, the host, was very accommodating and quick to answer any and all questions thoroughly. The area is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views of the river and sunset. Overall it was a lovely experience for our quick get away, highly recommend!

Lovely stay by the bay

We had a great time staying at this property. The views were incredible. The area was wonderful. Not far from Gloucester. Several area beaches were nearby. The hosts provided a nice info packet for us. The place was clean and comfortable. Great place for a weekend getaway!

Glenda and her husband Loren have spent the last 25 years working internationally, with most of their time in East and North Africa, Russia, Romania, and Ecuador. They have four adult daughters who all grew up overseas. Glenda is a Nurse Practitioner and Loren owns a small fair trade vanilla business using vanilla from small-scale farmers in the Amazon. They both love traveling, hiking, and camping. Loren remodeled the bay house and built all the kitchen cabinets and door trim out of cherry wood.

We love this property due to the closeness to the water and the woods behind the house. Provides us with a lovely place to relax after a busy week.

You'll understand why we love it so much when you wake up and see the beautiful views of the water. Or when you are watching a storm cross through the bay ...it is beautiful to see the sky colors change from all shades of blues and greys.
