Find peace and quiet in a secluded, 140-year-old farmhouse on eighty acres of managed prairie and flowers. This family-sized property is perfect for extended family and photographers who love to shoot birds and pollinators! Property near Walnut Grove, MN of Little House on the Prairie fame. This is the perfect retreat spot for avid photographers and nature lovers.

This home was homesteaded in 1874 by Johannes Jensen. He was a contemporary of Charles and Caroline Ingalls of Little House on the Prairie fame, who were also homesteading in that area. You can observe an unnatural looking hill beyond the end of the driveway that is the remnants of the dugout Johannes lived in prior to the house being built.

Great Family Stay!

We visited the area for a wedding, and needed a big place for our family. Caroline's place was comfortable, clean, and had plenty of space for us to spread out. She was a reaponsive and helpful host. Checking in and out was a breeze and we had everything we needed. Will stay again!

Perfect Getaway

Beautiful home, beautiful scenery. Loved the rural location, very peaceful with plenty of area for the kiddos to run around outside. Several small towns close by if you need groceries or want to dine in or do take out (I highly recommend Bonnie & Clyde's in Westbrook). House was clean, beds were very comfortable and host was quick to respond when we had questions. The perfect "halfway" destination for our Nebraska families to meet up with our Wisconsin family. Special thank you to the hosts for providing a wonderful place to stay! o House was clean, beds were very comfortable!

Beautifully Restored Farmhouse

I stayed here with my kids, best friend, and her kids. We had the best time at this home, and there were enough bedrooms for all of us (6!). First, the home is absolutely beautiful with so much charm. Second, it was spotless! The property was so peaceful with rabbits and deer running around. Such a gem to find! The owners were easy to get ahold of, were flexible with our plans, and responded promptly to any questions we had. Would love to stay here again in the future if we are ever back in the area!

Family Gathering For Son's Wedding

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this 80 acre farm home!! We had room for every family member that stayed. The property is quiet and very well kept! Hosts were very reaponsive when we had questions. Relaxing and beautiful home

The prairie house was a perfect vacation for all of us. It comfortably fit me and my husband and three kids, plus my mother and father in law in a ground floor bedroom. The property is beautiful and so peaceful, with fields of wildflowers and gophers, birds, and rabbits everywhere. The house was well kept up, renovated with new appliances, clean and comfortable beds, and nice cookware. There were even some building blocks for the kids. I would highly recommend this house for families and groups of friends of any size.

We had a fantastic stay!

This property is beautiful! We were a group of old friends visiting Walnut Grove and the prairie, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. It's a historical home, but modernized and spotlessly clean. The hosts could not have been nicer or easier to work with. Our only "complaint" is that we didn't stay longer to enjoy it more!

Lovely farmhouse

The house and property were as described. Beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting outside under the stars and watching the fireflies. Easy access to lots of parks. Would definitely come again.

Peace in the country

We had an amazing time staying here. It was very clean which is one of my top requirements! Bathrooms were newly remodeled but obviously still has the country feel through out the entire home and property. Beds were also very comfortable. We had fun sitting around the fire pit and enjoying the beautiful Midwest green and country life.

Refreshing!

A perfect meeting location for five life-long girlfriends to gather, with plenty of space, comfy beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and cozy sunroom for relaxing and catching up! A tranquil landscape view and no city sounds nor light pollution, we were blessed by the sights and sounds of nature and glorious starry skies at night. A convenient location to visit historical sights and parks. We would love to see the gardens in their full glory in summer! Hosts are very responsive and truly cared about our experience and their property.

My in-laws, wife, daughter and I stayed here while we were in the area during the first weekend of November. This place was perfect for us. Plenty of room and everything we needed for our stay. The house is in great shape given its age and is a beautiful property. We loved the history of the location. Thank you for your hospitality! We will most likely be back!

Nice place for a gathering

We had a sisters’ gathering of 5 gals here. It was great with lots of space and places for conversation. Everything was clean and nicely done. The property must be really beautiful in the summer when the gardens and prairie are in bloom.When I had questions both before and during the stay, I always got a quick response from Caroline. The house is an old renovated farmhouse, so there are odd steps here and there with slight level changes between rooms. Also, the steps to the upstairs are quite steep, make a turn, and do not have a railing. I mention this because people with mobility problems might find this a challenge. A couple of other small things were that the lighting on the main floor was pretty dark in all rooms. In order to play games around the dining room table, we moved a couple of lamps into the room temporarily. Also, I guess we would have preferred to have the dishes and silverware stored in the kitchen rather than the dining room cabinet. All in all, we had a great stay. We could easily envision staying here again with a larger group.

Nice quiet place in the country

Quiet, remote, charming farmstead

Loved this old farmhouse! It has been modernized but still holds it's charm. Beautiful prairie views, quiet, lots of room inside and out to roam or gather in several areas. Clean, comfortable and great host. If gathering in the area again, will definitely stay here. Thank you!

Pretty on the Prairie

We enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse. We particularly loved the restored Prairie where we watched birds and butterflies and, the quiet of the landscape. With the heat dome, it was nice to have AC, too.

Charming Country Farmhouse

We loved staying at this property! It’s nicely kept, clean, charming, nice furnishings, updated bathrooms, nice appliances, spacious yet cozy and intimate, very comfortable beds, and kitchen had everything I needed! The grounds are very nicely kept. Gorgeous gardens and lots of space to get away, take a walk and enjoy the prairie and its vast views. We did the Little House on the Prairie attractions, but enjoyed staying at the Farm the most! We are a family of 8 and hope to return.

Heaven on earth

This property was amazing and just what these big city folks needed! Our kids were amazed at how quiet it was! The location provided incredible stargazing, we have never seen so many stars in our lives! The house was big, clean and provided plenty of room to spread out. Our family’s favorite room was the sunroom…we all hung out there, played cards and spent much needed time together. We will definitely book again if we are back in the area!

Lovely stay

This modernized farmhouse was beautiful, comfortable, and spacious for our large group and number of kids. We had a great time playing out in the large yard and enjoyed spotting wildlife on walks around the farm. It was quite an experience for our city kids to experience a more rural lifestyle for our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed this home!
