We absolutely loved this apartment. It was beautiful, cozy, and perfect location for our many day trips around VT and NH. Kris and Jeff were wonderful host, giving us tips on things to do in the area and even suggested Quebec City versus Montreal. They were correct! We would definitely stay there again if we ever make it back up to Vermont.

Sweet

Kris is very welcoming and extremely responsive. The apartment is cozy and clean. My husband and I spent three lovely days exploring St Johnsbury and it was a pleasure to return each afternoon to Fairbanks Retreat. Folks should be aware that the stairs up to the apartment are steep. Also, the street is steep. We loved the Kingdom Trails Assn hike out of Lyndonville. Unfortunately, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail has been closed since last summer near St. Johnsbury, but you can probably catch it in Danbury. We also walked in the St Johnsbury municipal forest which was very nice, although icy and yak traks are needed.

Exceeded expectations

My daughter and I stayed here the night before she was taking a test at a local school. We really just needed an affordable place to sleep for the night, but this was so much more. Cozy, inviting, spacious, and too many thoughtful extras to name. From a basket of extra toiletries in case you forgot something to an extensive assortment of coffees and teas with every type of coffee maker available, a dishwasher, loads of games and a spacious living room/dining area. My daughter and I found ourselves wishing we had a reason to stay longer!

Fall visit with friends

The second time I have stayed here. This time with my wife and two children. A perfect apartment for our family to use as a home base for hiking and visiting with friends. We spent the days out and about hiking and exploring and came home to a warm, comfortable, clean spot where we could relax and play games and recharge. Host has created an excellent space!

Overnight stay

We enjoyed our night. The only challenge was the stairs for my parents who are in their late 80’s. It was okay because they only had to navigate them briefly, but it would have been rough if we had been staying longer. Thank you for making it such a pleasant stay!

Peaceful Stay at Fairbanks Retreat

My adult son and I had a lovely time celebrating my birthday at this two-bedroom get away! The hosts communicated readily and anticipated our needs-they even at out a signed birthday card and glass filled with chocolates! The apartment is on the second floor of an old house which sits on a steep hill in a quaint neighborhood filled with picturesque old homes. There are also a lot of great restaurants within walking distance. We biked, hiked and went to the museum and dog chapel. We had fun! If you can manage walking up the steep steps to the apartment then I highly recommend staying here-it was a great value and the hosts live downstairs if you need anything.

Fantastic Place

The apartment was very clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, the coffee bar set up was much appreciated. All four of us were very impressed and would highly recommend. Only thing to keep in mind is stairs are very steep as advertised.

Comfortable and welcoming

We had an amazing stay. The appartement is comfortable and welcoming. It is clean, the host went the extra mile for us to enjoy our stay. We enjoyed the location of the appartement and where able to indulge in good food, visit the museum of St Johnsbury and much more.

Enjoyable stay at Fairbanks retreat

My family of 4 stayed at the Fairbanks retreat for 6 nights in July. We came to Vermont to mountain bike and the locking shed in the back yard was perfect for keeping our bikes safe. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was well stocked stocked. Walked to dinner at Prohibition kitchen, several other restaurants were within walking distance (5-15 minute walk). Great communication with the owner who lives right below. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Fairbanks Retreat

This is a lovely place to stay. It is well managed and kept up. The beds were very comfortable and the owner left us a sweet greeting that made us feel very welcome. We look forward to staying there again if possible as we have family in the area and found the location just perfect and near downtown St Johnsbury.

Great Location, Cozy & Comfortable!

Hosts thought of everything we might need. Loved the Coffee Station in the kitchen ! Keurig, Nespresso, French Press & Mr Coffee! Comfortable beds, lovely balcony! We would stay here again. Thank you Kris!

Home away from home

Immaculate stay. Over and above hosts with special touches. (Chocolate kisses for our anniversary, snacks, toiletry items if you forgot anything, coffee/tea bar. We loved sitting on the porch for morning coffee and in the evenings! We will be back!

Visiting family

Second year staying here. We didn’t even research for a different place We were close to my son in lyndonville, able to have dinners and play games on our deck in evenings. Close enough to hiking areas (within walking or driving distance), corn mazes, Sunflower farms, and able to walk into St. Johnsburry for shopping or a meal. Love this place!

Steep stairs

There is a very steep set of outdoor stairs with some uneven treads leading to this upstairs apartment. Having walking issues, I would not have been able to climb it without help. Seems to be 1 parking space for guests. This is in a hilly section of St. Johnsbury, not close to restaurants or shops.
