Historic 1904 cabin on Clark Lake in Nisswa

Step back in time in this charming 1904 lake home that is featured in the local history books! Conveniently located a quarter mile from a public boat landing and the Paul Bunyan Trail. It's an easy 3 mile bike ride or walk to downtown Nisswa for shopping and dining.

Enjoy swimming off the dock, boating, and watching the sunset on peaceful Clark Lake. There is a gas grill, paddleboat, kayaks, lily pad raft, firepit, yard games, swing set for small children, and beautiful flower gardens around the 1 acre property for you to enjoy.

The first floor has a full bath and one bedroom with a lake view (queen bed). Upstairs there is another bathroom with a shower and two bedrooms. The largest room overlooks the lake and sleeps 4 (queen bed, twin daybed and trundle). The second upstairs bedroom sleeps 3 (queen bed, twin). Additionally, there is a built-in daybed (XL twin) in the living room. The little boathouse is the perfect place to nap or relax with a glass of wine and listen to the loons.

The house has been carefully renovated to maintain all its historic charm while providing modern amenities including wifi, smart tv, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and AC units in all bedrooms. There is also a record player, board games, puzzles and lots of books for guests to enjoy.

There are lots of pontoon rental businesses in the area for guest who would like to rent a boat and park it at the dock. Bikes can also be rented in downtown Nisswa.

We enjoyed the Labor Day weekend with family at The Historic1904 Cabin. People went fishing, paddle boarding, swimming, biking, and making snores around the campfire. The home was perfect for our crowd and we loved the historic, natural beauty of the entire property. Everything was perfect!

Relaxing getaway

We (5 adults and a toddler) had a great week at Grey Gables on Clark Lake. The cabin is comfortable, charming and rustic in a way that makes you feel like you're really getting away to a lake and the Northwoods. We really appreciated being close to Nisswa for groceries, shopping and when we didn't feel like cooking and the Paul Bunyan State Trail for bike rides. The hostess was very responsive to our questions and provided helpful recommendations for the area.

Beautiful location

Beautiful big house on the lake. Very cozy and plenty of space to spread out! Close to Nisswa which is a perfect town for shopping. Hostess is awesome!

Step back to a quieter time

The cottage is quaint and obviously well loved. We felt honored to be allowed and welcomed into such a historic family home. Its old and mismatched furniture and decor fits perfectly into this setting from another era. The house is clean and the owner was very accommodating—prompt to reply and beyond gracious in handing a few minor issues that arose. We are all senior citizens and the stairs are steep,; the path down to the lake uneven and there are lots of small level changes and small steps on the first floor. If you have mobility issues, this could be a problem. The view, the charm, the quiet and the flowers made our quiet sibling reunion just what we were looking for.

Extended Family Fun!

House was clean! Grounds are beautifully maintained and so inviting. It was a very warm week and the window a/c units in the bedrooms kept up. Kitchen fully stocked and had everything we needed. Great selection of books! Only note was the lake is shallow at the dock and the kids didn’t like the feel of the plant growth and debris that came in from the lake maintenance work for swimming. Beach nearby was a hit. Totally fine for paddleboarding and other lake activities

Ideal lake cabin experience

We felt right at home in the cabin from the moment we arrived. Everything we needed for an extended family stay in a well appointed cabin was thought of and in place. We enjoyed bon fires, fishing from the dock, and being on the lake. Maja is very responsive and checked in to make sure all was going well. We will be back!

Beautiful 1904 cabin in Nisswa

This cabin is the perfect fit for a lake vacation with extended family! There are three ample bedrooms and 2 full baths. The decor is lovely(an unusual situation for most cabins where faux leather recliners are the usual). This is the kind of space one wants to stay forever. The lake is lovely and there are lots of boats and boards to use. Loons ! The Paul Bunyan Trail is a short walk away. We rented bikes and rode every day. Internet is so strong it even reaches the dock! Because of the age and charm of this cabin... it's reminiscent of cabin life in the good old days... definitely an extra special experience! But, now there are all the modern conveniences! We had a wonderful time!

Picturesque escape for a girls weekend!!

My friends and I booked this beautiful VRBO for a girls weekend and it was PERFECT! The photos do not even begin to capture how beautiful this property is, inside and out! There was plenty of space for 10 adult women to sleep comfortably, and we really enjoyed the space in the sun and dining rooms to play games and share meals! Thee weather one day was perfect to use the lily pad, paddle board and kayak!! I would rent this house again in a heartbeat! It was truly lovely. Also, access to the Paul Bunyan trail is so close!! A few of us brought our bikes and enjoyed a quick 10 mile loop one morning. I’d highly recommend taking advantage of the proximity!

What dreams are made of…

I fell in love with the pictures and even more so when I saw it in person. The boat house on a rainy summer afternoon was magical. The attention to detail the owner has taken restoring this house property, down to the hidden garden surprises is truly an adventure we had every day just walking around. The path to Nisswa was fun for our family to enjoy together. The lake at the end of the dock is very shallow which was reassuring as a mom with 2 small kids. Close to the exciting Gull lake nearby, but a quiet lake to escape to after a busy day. Every amenity we needed was provided. Some stuff for our 4 and 6 year olds, some great reading material, and… comfy beds! We would love to go back.

Nice location

Played golf at Preserve, Deacons, Classic. Central location in Nisswa. Quiet spot on Clark Lake. Very Comfortable accommodations for our foursome.

Pure Magic

This cabin was so amazing. It is old and historic while managing to be comfortable and the things needed in this day and age. There were so many historic features to take in and appreciate. It was meticulously clean and had all the basic amenities one would expect to find in a rental. The character was so so charming and every space was large and comfortable. There was AC units in every bedroom. And even during the day the areas without AC stayed remarkably cool despite 80+ degree weather. Beds were comfortable and I wasn't missing my bed while we were there! The lake is fairly shallow, but that was great for our group of 3-9 year olds to swim off the dock. Lake had good fishing and an area of deeper water for water activities. The bonus of a paddle board, lily pad, and paddle boat were perfect and provided hours of entertainment. The boathouse was a charming little place to feel the breeze off the lake and play cards. The owner was very attentive and relaxed. You can tell the time and care that goes into the upkeep of this beautiful cabin and property. We were very very pleased with both the cabin and the owner.

Great Place to Stay With Friends

I was so lucky to find this listing before it gets completely booked up. The pictures online are accurate, but almost don't do the place justice. It is so well manicured, decorated, and the owner has thought of everything to make our stay wonderful. We had 8 girlfriends there for a 40th birthday party celebration and it was the perfect place to stay. There were enough beds, it was nice and peaceful, and Nisswa wasn't too far for us to go shopping or have dinner and drinks. We have a couple more friends turning 40 this year and will definately book here again if it is available.

Summers at Grey Gables feel like you are stepping back in time. The house was built as a summer cabin in 1904 and is featured in the local history books so it's very fun to read about. There are even signatures of guests on the garage door dating back to the 1920's!
We have updated the house and done our best to preserve the character and style of an old cabin with the decor.

We hope you'll appreciate this peaceful place and treat it gently as it is an antique! We don't allow pets or bachelor/bachelorette type parties out of respect for our neighbors and our home.
