Looking to get away? This is the perfect location! Featuring classic architecture with modern amenities. The whole group will be comfortable in this spacious and unique space.

The historic “Hendee Mansion”, is a 4,600 SF house originally built and owned by George Hendee, Founder of Hendee Bicycle and co-founder of the Indian Motorcycle Co. The house still maintains most of its original architecture.

1st Floor Kitchen, TV Sitting room off kitchen, Dining Room, Living room (600 Sq/Ft), Sunroom, 1/2 Bath
2nd Floor - 5 Bedrooms plus one locked off for owners, Laundry, 3 Bathrooms.
1 - Master Suite - King Bed, Private bath & sitting/TV room (Additional owners room/closet locked off)
2 - Queen Bed
3 - King Bed
4 - Locked off Owners Storage Room
5 - 2 Twin Beds
6 - 1 Twin bed

House is old, but guest areas are in good condition. Air conditioning worked well and the house was comfortable. Kids had a great time exploring. We extended our stay by a couple of days and the owners were quick to respond and easy to work with.

Beautiful historic home with plenty of space to enjoy. Comfortable beds, clean bathrooms with plenty of towels, large bright kitchen. Quiet neighborhood on a pretty residential street, but easy proximity to major roads to get everywhere quickly. The hosts are very responsive and lovely people. Would definitely stay again.

Just as listed, the Hendee house is spacious and comfortable, with a few eccentricities you might expect in a 100-year old mansion, but none that hampered a very enjoyable 55th reunion of four college roommates and their spouses. We had no real problems fixing meals, dining, and visiting in the living room and veranda. The location was very good, just a few blocks from a very large forested park.

House was larger than expected, particularly the sitting areas. Kitchen was amply stocked. Check-in and out went smoothly. Only nit was that only one key was provided. With several people coming and going, it would have been nice to have another key.

Great for graduation groups!

This property was fantastic for our extended family’s trip to a Smith College graduation. It has easy access to the highway so getting back and forth was quick and easy. The house is enormous, well equipped and comfortable. We all slept well, and the kitchen is modern and well stocked for preparing family meals. The host was very responsive to our questions. I highly recommend!

Great Historic Home Close to Everything

Our group was a team of clinicians from out of state staying here at the house. They had a wonderful experience. The owner/property manager were very communicative throughout.

Great stay at the mansion, on a work trip

My coworkers and I stayed at the mansion for a conference at the Mass Mutual center. It was a short drive from our location, though we could have walked it in about 30 minutes as well. The mansion was very clean, instructions were very clear, and we had no issues. Thanks again for the stay!

Great vacation house!

We were 2 moms and 4 teens. We found the house spacious, clean, charming, and comfortable. The manager was great to deal with and there was plenty of communication in both signs and a folder at the house and messaging through VRBO. We would be happy to stay here in future and highly recommend it!

Hendee Mansion June 2023

We had a wonderful stay at the Hendee Mansion. There is so much character in this home and I wish the walls could talk to tell the stories of this house. Ken was great during check-in and out and we had no issues at all during our stay. The neighborhood was quiet and friendly, we spoke to a few locals and it was great. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Family Event

The home was used to house family coming from various states to attend an event in Northern CT. We found the home to be very clean, well stocked and spacious. Ken, who managed the property, promptly responded to inquiries and requests leading up to the visit, and questions we had during the visit. In addition to exceeding our housing needs, the homes history, decor and architecture makes it worth visiting just to experience it.

A beautiful part of history!

I recently stayed at the Historic Hendee Mansion in Massachusetts, and it was a truly memorable experience. Our group of seven was incredibly comfortable in this spacious 4,600 square foot home. The mansion's unique and intricate details, reflective of its 100+ year history, were fascinating to explore. We spent hours admiring the craftsmanship and imagining the lives of those who once stayed or lived in such an incredible place. Our hosts were awesome—very accommodating and always just a text away if we needed anything or had any questions. Their attentiveness and hospitality added a special touch to our stay. If you ever get the chance, definitely consider staying at this historic home. The combination of spacious comfort and rich history makes it an exceptional choice.

Spacious and Clean

The house is beautiful and clean. It is well-appointed with towels, kitchen supplies, coffee machines, kettles, toasters, plates, cups, etc. The kitchen is a good hang-out space. The AC worked well and there were ample fans. Wi-Fi was strong and there were several spaces for work at home. It was very nice to have a working laundry. The garden space was cute; I even saw a bunny hop by as I was working outside. The owner was responsive as needed to answer questions. The driveway fits 4 cars easily. There is a park nearby as well. The only thing I would say is that there were some issues with the door locks that felt unsafe, but having reported them to the owner, I assume he'll take care of it. And personally, I would prefer to have more than one easy-access exit. In this case, the only easy exit out is through the kitchen. The other doors (front and garden access) either required a key to exit or were marked with caution tape as use-only in an emergency.

Thanks fo the stay, and leaving the house in decent shape. I do apologize for the confusion with the door locks. Unfortunately it is an old house and people are not familiar with operation of old locks(The whole house still has skeleton key locks on the interior). Took me a while to get the hang of it too. We did a quick turnaround that day and I didn't see that back porch door key had been put into the lockbox and not left on the table in front of the door. Will add that to my checklist. The City of Springfield had the owners remove one feature of that back entry door lock. I don't know why. That was done before I took over management, but I have discussed with the owners about replacing the whole door with a more modern lockset. The front door is getting shaved to solve the sticking issue whenever it gets very humid. Works fine, just need to put a shoulder into it to lock it this time of year.
