Enjoy your vacation in this historic, centrally located, stunning village home. Recently purchased, this house has been fully equipped and updated with a modern but comfortable, casual, river feel. This home is conveniently located on a lovely, quiet street, only a few minutes from the River and all that the beautiful village has to offer. Few minute stroll to the wooden park, grocery store, museums and the downtown shops and restaurants. Enjoy relaxing summer evenings on the inviting front porch or grilling in the spacious back yard.
Welcome to a piece of history on our majestic St. Lawrence River in our sweet little village in Clayton, NY. This charming greek revival home was once the home of the owners of the original Thousand Islands Dressing recipe, Allen & Susan Benas. Fun fact: You’ll find “Thousand Islands Dressing” when searching this property on Google maps.
Recently purchased in 2022, we’ve enjoyed renovating and furnishing this timeless beauty with a cozy, comfortable River feel, adding a bit of modern flair, while trying to honor her history. We personally enjoy traveling and have visited many countries. We've stayed in many homes and have made note of the amenities that we know make a stay more enjoyable.
This 2 story home features a kitchen, dining room, living room, family room and a large private office. There are 3 bedrooms, all with large closets and comfortable bedding. There are 2 brand new full bathrooms, one on each level. Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen with Keurig coffee maker, all styles of pots and pans, table settings for 10, toaster, blender, microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher and large stainless fridge. We know that eating out isn’t always the best option for your evening so we’ve provided a fully equipped kitchen for preparing your meals. We personally like to enjoy a full day in the sun and throw some burgers or a steak on the grill and relax for the evening! We’ve provided a brand new propane grille for your convenience to barbecue and relax after a full day. There is outdoor seating overlooking the sprawling backyard for you to enjoy as well.
A washer and dryer reside on the first level, guests are welcome to do their laundry when needed, which is something we personally always look for when renting other homes. The spacious front porch is perfect for gathering to relax at the end of your day.
Clayton is a quintessential town, relaxed and inviting, a Norman Rockwell vibe. We hope you’ll enjoy all Clayton has to offer. There are beautiful walking trails, state parks and picnic areas just a few minute drive away. The local grocery store is 1/4 mile away and it’s only a 5 minute stroll to the down town area and the St. Lawrence River. Enjoy shopping, dining and site seeing in our town. There is a beautiful wooden park located a hop skip and jump from the property. Walk north towards the river and make your first left. There are tennis courts and a basketball court next to an amazing children’s wooden park. A large grass area borders the park and every Thursday from 10-4 there is a farmers market there. You’ll find fruits and vegetables, honey, maple syrup, handmade crafts, and much more.
We suggest you visit Bellas’s for a fantastic breakfast or lunch on the water. Make sure to grab some baked goods to take away. Channelside never disappoints for dinner and has a fantastic view on their beautiful outdoor deck over looking the water. Visit our St Lawrence gallery on the corner of James and Riverside drive for a selection of River art and decor.
If you have more than a few days, make sure to check out Alex bay and Cape Vincent, our bordering small towns. They are each a 15 minute drive away in opposite directions. Alex bay has boat tours and souvenir shops and our convenient local River Hospital. We’ve provided a list of emergency contact numbers in the home as well for your convenience.
Make sure to stroll our river walk that extends along the river and downtown area. The 1000 Islands Harbor hotel also welcomes visitors to come in and enjoy their facilities. Enjoy a cocktail on their outdoor terrace while watching the ships pass by on the River.
Rules & Guidelines for your stay.
Please do make yourselves at home and we kindly ask that you treat our home as you would your own.
Please keep doors locked when you are not home. While this is a very safe area, a “Norman Rockwell” style village, we do still lock our own doors and feel that is safest.
Please park properly in the driveway and do not park on the grass.
Please dispose of your trash as instructed.
Please put used towels in the laundry basket in the laundry area or in the upstairs bathroom tub at the end of your stay.
This is a very laid back neighborhood, but we do ask in respect for our neighbors that there is no loud outside noise past 10:00pm.
While you are welcome to enjoy the inviting upper balcony, but we do ask that you refrain from pulling any furniture onto the 2nd story upstairs balcony. Please do not sit on the balcony railing. We have provided a seating area on the balcony for your convenience.
The home is equipped for a maximum of 6 guests. All guests must be authorized before check in.
No pets
No smoking / drugs
No parties/events
No unauthorized overnight guests.
No smoking or vaping inside the home, the balcony or front porch. If you must smoke or vape please do so on the grass and properly dispose of butts.
We reside in a neighboring property and are available for any questions or concerns you may have. We are interested in giving our guests 5 star service to earn your 5 star review. If there is anything you need during your stay please don’t hesitate to reach out!
