Welcome to Finlandia! Finlandia is a dog-friendly Avon oceanside cottage ready for you and your family to enjoy. Finlandia has its roots in - you guessed it - Finland. Read to the bottom to learn more.

Finlandia is nearby local shopping, dining, grocery, and watersports. And of course, Finlandia is just steps away from one of the nicest (and widest) beaches on Hatteras Island, giving you access to endless beach days during your stay! Finlandia is also located about 1 mile north of the Avon Pier.

Inside Finlandia, you'll be greeted by an open living area complete with a flat-screen Smart TV and seating for the whole crew. When it's time for meals, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals during your stay including stainless steel appliances, a stocked kitchen, and both traditional and Keurig coffee makers. With breakfast bar seating for 4 along with dining room seating for 4 as well, everyone can enjoy meals together as a family.

Even better? Take advantage the beautiful Hatteras Island weather and dine on the large private sundeck at the picnic table! At Finlandia, each bedroom is perfect for you to relax and unwind after a fun-filled day on the Outer Banks. Additional amenities at Finlandia include an electric Weber grill, outdoor shower, fish cleaning table, Nest thermostat, and high-speed WiFi provided by Silicon Travel with concierge service.

A little history:

All beams for the home were manufactured in Kokkola, Finland by a company named Bothniahouse. Bothniahouse was known for building log homes, still popular to this day in Finland. The logs made their way to the US and Finlandia was built on site in Avon. It reportedly may be the only home on the island like it.

While the home has been updated, some of the original features and details remain. All inside walls and ceilings are the original wood beams, In the back bedroom, you will even see the back of a stone fireplace that was at one time a centerpiece of the home. The laundry room was at one time a sauna room. If you look closely outside the home above the main door area, you will still see an exposed beam that has the original stamp from Kokkola, Finland and Bothniahouse.

Great place for a small family and a dog or two! The house has a great history and is very well equipped, especially the kitchen. Short walk to the beach and a nice low traffic street to walk your pets. We will definitely be renting Finlandia again!

Great stay with our boys! Good location, quick walk down the street to the beach and the boys loved walking across the street to DQ for ice cream. If you have kids with lots of beach stuff invest in a beach cart one made for the sand! The house was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for making meals.

Property is super nice: property is very well maintained. Well stocked. Close to grocery store and little “downtown area.” Beach is literally right down the street. The property’s location is awesome; it’s not far to go to ocracoke or drive up to nags head. It’s pet friendly so that’s a plus! Had some small issues during our stay, but the owner was very prompt in responding and communication was excellent. For our family of four, 2 indoor showers would have worked better. The outdoor shower was helpful though. Our entire family enjoyed our stay!

Excellent cottage for a single family

Finlandia was a wonderful home for our small family. The host is on top of everything and the house was fully decked out with furnishings and home accessories. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

We loved our stay at Findlandia. Short walk to the beach. The owner Ken was very attentive and reached out multiple times to ensure we had everything we needed. Excellent communication. The house is very well-appointed and clean. They had new appliances and several conveniences (paper products, towels, and linens; not to mention the wonderful outdoor shower with awesome water temp and pressure. We also had access to beach chairs and boogie boards. If ever in the Outer Banks, we will definitely look to stay here again. Can’t say enough. (Even accommodated our pup) Thank you for a tremendous stay.

Wonderful spot for me and my boys' getaway

Great location. Comfy couches. Slept three of us very well. If you take a dog, remember that all the houses on OBX are on stilts and your dog should be comfortable with decking stairs. Be sure to practice outdoor stairs with your dog before booking anything on OBX. Great host and had a super time with my boys.Ed Stoll

Wonderful December Retreat

My best friend (over 50 years) and I spent 3 nights at this beautiful little cottage. The location is right off Route 12 and about a short block to the beach. The beach is absolutely beautiful - wide, clean, and wonderful! Definitely will be booking again in the future.

Charming beach cottage

Great location, close to shops and restaurants and 2 minute walk to the wide, open beautiful beach. Perfect spot for a couple or family with littles. Compact, one story once you’re on the deck keeps everyone together for easy monitoring of wee ones with back bedrooms to tuck them away during nap and bedtime. Large deck mostly private is great for morning coffee, reading, cocktails or dinner on the large picnic table. House is unique with cool history. Comfortable and clean. This was our second visit with our dog. We’d go back again.

We are Ken and Todd, two long-time friends and work colleagues. We have both enjoyed the Outer Banks (and Hatteras) for many years as visitors. In 2019, we decided to buy our first beach home to share with our families and make available much of the year for guests. We hope you enjoy Finlandia as much as we do.

One of the best beaches in all of Hatteras with a private walk to the beach at the end of the road and a well-established dune system. And, some of the best neighbors you can imagine. Perfect location near shops, restaurants, and grocery stores and an easy drive the Hatteras lighthouse, the Pier, and some of the best fishing in the country.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

The most unique home on Hatteras Island. Basically, a tongue and groove log home built on-site and manufactured in Finland. Nothing like it. Not a single sheet of drywall in the entire home. Check out the guest guide at the home to see historical pictures.
