Shangra-La is a beautiful property located in a central area that is convenient for day trips to the many areas to explore in Northern Michigan. We had four older adults, lol, and four twenty-something young adults; two bedrooms were not used. There is plenty of seating indoors, outdoor on the screened porch, and on the deck for your party. Sue and Kiwi were lovely, and gave us tips and information for our stay.

Shangri-la was a wonderful place for our annual family Labor Day trip. The house was great with plenty of outdoor space and all the room we needed for the eleven of us. Proximity to the beach made it even better! Sue was a wonderful host who filled us in on the history of the house and was eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. (The cookies upon arrival were a special touch!) We would highly recommend Shangri-la for your next gathering!

Nice break in Michigan Up North (Lake Charlevoix)

Had a very nice week-long stay at an antique rooming house/cottage on Lake Charlevoix in Northern Michigan. We went there because we had 16 and it hit the budget. We were very pleased wi the result! Sue was an gracious landlord. If you want the Holiday Inn, you'll be disappointed. If you want classic quarters, this is it!

Good for the price

Very roomy, serene, peaceful, unable to launch boat due to low water level. Check with Sue before bringing your boat. Water was cold. Good central location to surrounding cities. Ask about designated smoking area. Sue was a gracious host. Made sure all needs were met.

Family reunion at Lake Charlevoix

Close proximity to the lake and golf cart available if needed. Location within 20 minutes of Charlevoix, Petoskey and Boyne City. Sue, the owner, was available and helpful.

Very Nice

It was a very nice place. It looks small in the pictures but plenty of room! We had 8 adults and 2 children. Loved the screened in porch! The decking around the house was beautiful. We would stay there again!

Great end of summer get away!

Wonderful place!

This house was very accommodating for our large family! The very large covered porch and outside deck made it so comfortable and roomy! The host was so nice and showed us around her property, telling us its history. I highly recommend staying here!

Amazing place for a large family!

The owner was very accommodating. The entire family loved the house and the area. Everyone enjoyed the water. The history of the home is very interesting and it has been updated and very well maintained over the years. Actually, it looks even better than in the photos. We would definitely stay in the future.

Gather and Travel with Friends

This was a great place to gather and launch local site seeing. Twelve of us traveled from New Mexico to see and experience northern Michigan with it forests, beaches, and waterways. Great to all gather at one house to share our experiences of the local area and towns. Host was very accommodating and helpful.

A true gem!

The property and location exceeded our expectations. It was perfect for our extended family gathering that included kids as young as three and adults nearly 70. Lake Charlevoix is absolutely beautiful and so close to the home. Additionally, Lake Michigan beaches are about a 15 minute drive while Boyne City and Charlevoix are also very close.

Family vacation

Had a great time getting all the siblings, grandparents and young cousins together. Favorite space is the screened in porch. Plenty of room for our family of 11. Lake is beautiful, short walk to the private beach. Dads pontoon was able to pull right up to the dock from another local dock. If the weather had been better would have spent many days down at the beach area. Great distance from lots to do- Boyne city, Charlevoix, ORV riding trails, golfing, parks, wineries. Favorite spot was Gypsy Distillery, farmers market, tacos and tequila for quick lunch, and kids park next to marina in Boyne City.

Wonderful historic get away

We had a wonderful family reunion and there was more than enough seating for everyone. Sue was the best host we’ve had on VRBO and hope to visit the area/rent again soon!

Perfect! 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay in this comfortable, historic home. The central location makes visiting Boyne City, Charlevoix, and Petoskey by car a breeze. Speaking of breeze, the large screened porch was a favorite for morning coffee, relaxing mid-day, and for group dinners at the large picnic bench. A small private waterfront beach on Lake Charlevoix, and a general store are easy walks.

Great place for our rehearsal dinner

This was the perfect place for a rehearsal dinner. The porches were so spacious and beautiful. Sue and Kiwi were very friendly and wanted to make sure we always had everything we needed. The golf cart was a nice surprise that our girls used to go to the beach and back. Everything was very clean. Would recommend and stay there again!

Wonderful property for family memories

This was a beautiful property for all ages. Sue was a gracious and wonderful host going above and beyond for our family. The house is stocked with everything you could dream of for a great vacation. She is generous and kind and the use of the golf cart was so much fun! The lake is gorgeous, clear and not crowded. Great clear and shallow to splash around in with little ones (don’t forget water shoes, it is a little rocky). Great rental, exactly as listed and so much fun. Thank you!

Northern Michigan paradise

This home was absolutely perfect. The host, Sue, tended to every detail to ensure our trip was stress-free and enjoyable. The home was spacious, charming, clean, and well equipped. We loved all the outside living space. We ate all of our meals on the screened in porch. The close proximity to the water was such a treat. It was a perfect beach for our grandkids (and the adults!). We loved everything about Shangri-la!
