Lovely House in Need of Upgrades

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Lovely house in need of upgrades. We enjoyed the size of the home and how everyone was able to have their own bedroom and bathroom. Enjoyed the expansive deck space and open layout living area. Spent A LOT of time in the pool and hot tub. We loved how private it was. Unfortunately the house wasn't very clean when we checked in. A lot of the furniture was still sandy and there were clumps of dog hair in the corners. The furniture itself, both inside & outside need to be replaced. The playground probably just needs to come down & there was broken furniture near the canal. A lot of the doors stuck and were hard to open/close, and one of the rooms had a sheer curtain that made it hard to stay sleeping in the morning. We had to drape a blanket over it to block out the sun. Also, a lot of the TVs, we couldn't get to work. The owners just need to make small upgrades and then it would be perfect. Despite this, we had a great time and would come back.

Great location / house needs TL&C

While the location of this house was perfect; unfortunately our expectations were not met during our week long stay. This property needs a deep cleaning and some updates in order to function properly. The grounds need to be maintained better. While the pool area was functional for our young children, the backyard has a stench along with a collapsing shed. The refrigerator and ice maker in the home do not work. Although the property managers were attentive to our needs and attempted to rectify issues during our stay, the house fell short of our expectations and the listing.

July Family Vacation 2025

Rating Details: The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Beach, house, pool and hot tub were perfect. We had to go buy coffee mugs and frying pans for the kitchen. Not a single herb was stocked. You will need to buy ice. The parking area smelled like garbage. We moved the garage cans far away from the house. There is a shed , a children swingset and a swing by the water that had fallen down. Dangerous. This is not acceptable for children.

A Wonderful week with family

We had a wonderful week. The home worked very well for our needs. Overall clean and everything was in working order. The pool was very clean and temp was perfect same with the hot tub. When booking I didn’t see where I needed to opt in for linens and discovered there were non. I called Carolina Shores and they got me fixed up right away. The negative parts were the old shed in the back of the property needs removed, a large pile of dead branches and the old swingset that needs removed the grass was overgrown. When picking up my packet the young lady stated I needed to document any damages. I spent the first two hours doing this and felt like I was back in the rental business. After an email with 25 photos and calling John at CS the grass was quickly mowed branches removed with an explanation of the shed. Megan followed up with a nice call. Overall a great stay

Ready to go back to OBX!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved our stay at the Fancy Flamingo! We had three families (six adults and three kids) and every family had their own private room and bathroom. We loved the size of the house, and the private pool was perfect for us. The beach was a short drive from the house with ample parking available. We also got up early one morning to watch the sunrise on the beach - definitely recommend!We did have to call the rental company at one point and let them know that the AC was not keeping up in the upper floor of the house. It wouldn't get below 80 and while we realize it was a heat wave, we also had kids in the house to keep happy. They sent someone out the same day to get it serviced and it was perfect the rest of the week!There really were no cons to this house. The only thing we would note is the floor was in need of a good cleaning as our kids feet turned black after walking around barefoot.

Great quite location

Omly thing i would change is add some toilet paper to the bathrooms nothing like a long trip only to rush to the bathroom and find out thet are no toilet paper.. Yard was mowed - pool and hot tub was clean and a bouns plus the canal in the bag yard has great fishing..

5 Stars – Great Stay at a Cozy Beach House!We had a great time at this beach house! The location was perfect—just a short drive to the beach, which made it easy to go back and forth throughout the day. The house itself was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The neighborhood was peaceful, and the neighbors were very nice and welcoming. We’d definitely stay here again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet, beachside escape!

Great location and neighborhood. Pictures are not recent. Some amenities not at listed. Cleanliness was an issue but property manager did send someone over to do floors for us which was much appreciated. Kitchen accessories are lacking and disorganized. Had a lovely stay regardless.

Really enjoyed

The house is really nice. Quiet area. Really liked it here and one of the pluses was a pool and play set in the yard. Pool was nice. But the play area in the yard has some rusted out areas and we had to clean out the sandbox from weeds, trash. Could use some work. But overall, we really liked it and would come back.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house was plenty spacious for our large group(6 adults and two teenagers) . Each queen bedroom has it own bathroom and the two bunk bed rooms share a bathroom, and there was one additional bathroom as well. Having our own pool and hot tub was a huge plus, didn’t have to worry about pool hours and such, we could swim whenever we wanted. There were plenty of places to spread out with a sun porch and a deck/ balcony off of every bedroom. The drive to the beach wasn’t too bad, about 10 min drive, and we were given passes for the Beach access parking. Four of my adult children enjoyed the included tennis courts that were included as well. Although I don’t have small children, as a parent who one did, I thought it was great that there were many baby gates and a pack and play which would be great for those with small children. Also plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. There were a few maintenance and cleaning things that could have been better, but definitely not a deal breaker. The ice maker didn’t work so we just bought bags of ice. There were some lightbulbs burnt out but none that made too much of a difference. Yard upkeep could be a little better, but didn’t really affect us, the cleaning crew also missed a few things there was hair and sand in one of the bathtubs that we just cleaned out and my son found some trash under one of the beds that he just vacuumed up.. Some of the patio furniture is probably due to be replaced, but all still usable and fine, there was all new furniture on the upstairs deck off the kitchen, so they must be working on it. They must have a regular exterminator because for being down south and the only bugs we saw was one spider is remarkable. There was also a pool guy that showed up midweek to freshen up the pool. All in all, we loved it, as well as our adult children who can be quite the critics, lol, and we would definitely stay in this house again. The agency was also very helpful when we did

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This could be an amazing property, but lack of maintenance and upkeep ruined this place. Grass/weed was knee high in the yard until they cut it the day before we left. Shed in yard stunk to high heaven with roof ready to collapse. No landscaping has been done in years. Furniture at canal dock was beyond being able to sit on. Inside furniture is dated and sticky. Hot tub and pool were nice, but lack of tree trimming causes debris to fall in pool and I spent too much time skimming leaves and pine needles with old skimmer. Roaches live in the screened porch and one was inside one of the bedrooms. Never found soccer field or basketball court they listed and I searched. Would not stay here again unless they updated and started maintaining the property regularly. A more thorough map should be given at check-in if the amenities the list exist.

Beautiful home

It had everything my grandkids loved. A playground and a pool and very close to the beach. They had baby gates because there's a lot of stairs in the home and I love that because we had a 1-year-old with us and a four year old.The only thing I did not like was the mosquitoes are very bad so make sure you keep the screen door shut or they'll be in the house with you at night .

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were totally disappointed. Each summer our family takes a trip to a different North Carolina beach and we rent a house. This was the worst house we ever rented. When we arrived the linen from the previous guests was still at the property and ours had not arrived. The Sauna was filthy and it did not seem like house had been cleaned well. We had to have the cleaning company return to the house. Carolina Shores was quick to respond to all of our concerns. They seem like a great company. They should remove this property from their catalog until this owner invests in this property. The house is outdated, dirty, and filled with broken things. Whoever owns this house really needs to update it, invest in pest control, clean the spiderwebs, and update the furniture.

Plenty of room for the 9 in our group (3 kids) and we never feel like we’re crowding each other. Pool and hot tub are great and we will very likely stay again next year. Wish it was pet friendly but that’s the only real negative.

Wouldn’t stay again. Dirty. Outdated.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Long story short we arrived and the place was just dirty. I’m not talking nature usual a bug here and there. I’m saying black feet from walking around inside the house. The rusty table on the patio was falling apart. The decks all need painted and the nails fixed that stick out. The screened in patio was covered in cobwebs dirty cushions etc... The ice machine wasn’t working so I contacted the office. 2 days later I was told to pull machine apart and let it thaw out and refresh. ( it wasn’t that simple and didn’t want to break it so we just bought ice) Another note on contacting the office I expressed my concern about broken items ( toilet paper holder steps on kids playhouse mold in the shower curtain! ) They didn’t even acknowledge I mentioned the cleanliness of the house. When cooking dinner we had to dig through pots and pans due to rusted pans. We went to use the grill and the propane tank was so rusted it was unusable and couldn’t be turned on. We never even used the outdoor shower because it was so dirty and filled with bugs. I know nature happens but this couldn’t have been cleaned in a month if not more. Just gross. The neighborhood was very quiet and residential. We were the only rental on the street and that’s fine but honestly we were afraid to even play music by the pool it was so quiet. The internet never worked either. I e never written a bad review in years of vacationing in OBX but this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Flamingo Fancy - Sept 2020

Location, neighborhood and layout/amenities were great. The condition of the home leaves a bit to be desired. Exterior is unkempt (unusable, ratty patio furniture with a few exceptions; outdoor decor items rusted or broken; section of paint peeled bad screen on exterior door upstairs). Interior was cleaned by company so fridge and bathrooms were clean but the kitchen equipment (griddles, colanders...) were dirty and extremely disorganized. A few pots/pans were unusable because of rust but it didn't matter because there were multiples of everything but you had to open every cabinet to find something because there was no orgnization. No place to store food except for the counter. Closets all had crap just stuffed in them making some of them unusable. Doesn't allow dogs but it is clear that dogs have been locked in a couple of rooms and tried to claw their way out - superficial damage only. Bath mats and the few throw rugs are worn out or seem very dirty. TV in family room is WAY too small for a room that size - so don't plan on gathering around to watch a movie on a rainy day. The family room furniture is all wicker and the cushions are VERY old looking and don't have enough cushioning left to make them comfortable on this furniture. This home just needs some attention and needs to be refreshed to be great. Really enjoyed the pool and hot tub.

They need to hire a new cleaning company and update all furniture! Indoor and outdoor! All outdoor furniture was broken and indoor was old and uncomfortable. Besides that, great location and plenty of space! And yes, they need a grill that works too

Very Nice House - Great Location

House is as advertised, and mgmt company was easy to work with, especially during these tough times. Seen some comments about bugs, but think that is just a product of the house's location.

Spacious home with pool on canal

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: When we got there the house after paying for an early check in, the was dirty and had no been cleaned well, if at all. Mattress pads were gross, toothpaste in the bathroom sinks, and food left in the kitchen sink and the grass had no been cut. I called and reported the issue and they sent out someone from housekeeping who was awesome. We did stay up until midnight washing mattress pads and comforters. Aside from the rough start, the house was spacious. We enjoyed the 3 masters and the pool. The kids enjoyed the canal and fishing out back. This was our second stay here. The first time was great except for the grass not being cut, but after the rocky start it went great. They did get someone out relatively fast to resolve the issues. I was told the owner had been there and she didn't clean very well before she left. The home was in a good location but it could be hard to turn left onto the main road. The beds were very loud and squeaky. There were nightlights but none of them works, so if you have children bring your own. Kitchen was stocked well with pots and pans and kitchen utensils, however most were dirty so we had to wash them all before we could use anything. Overall, it was a great trip and we would consider staying here again.
