Needs Help

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had several maintenance issues with this house which definitely did take time away from our vacation. I will say however that the maintence/rental team was very responsive and very pleasant to work with. As far as the home, it definitely is in dire need of major cosmetic help. Let's start with exterior - the yard needs to be cleaned up and cut back. In the backyard there's a horseshoe game but you wouldn't not want to step fatback there it's so overgrown. The pool area is nice, however, there is so much overgrowth and dirt around the pool area that it gets the pool dirty so quickly. I'm not even sure that the decks will pass safety as many of the boards felt like you would go right through them. As far as the interior, the whole house needs a makeover. The rugs are just gross. The bathrooms look like they're from 1970. The furniture is all old and rundown - they attempted to use cheap slip-covers to cover the sofas but they were so cheap, they looked worse than the sofas. I attempted to wash one of the covers on the bed and it was so old it literally fell apart in the wash. The kitchen is ok for a lower-priced rental but it could use some organizing and cleaning inside the cabinets and drawers. The biggest issue we had with the kitchen was that the stove caught on fire while we were boiling water! The burners likely hadn't been cleaned in a long time and we found ourselves with a grease fire (luckily we were right there and knew how to handle it.)The owners really need to consider some cosmetic help as well as just a good clean up for this rental home.

Family vacation

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The family vacation was wonderful. The walking distance to the beach was a little further that we anticipated. Upgrades are needed with cooking utensils, toilets and mattresses are old and very uncomfortable. Pillows and mattresses covers had stains on them. Just a few things that need attention. Overall, we had a great time with family. We loved visiting Duck. The pool and hot tub was a huge hit.

The description of property was very different than the property. Hot tub did not work, this was one of amenities that we looked for in choosing property. No offer of compensation for not having hot tub. There were some issues that took most of week to resolve (outlets not working). Internet went out and I had to spend almost 40 minutes on phone to service restored. Exterior in needs attention- nails sticking up, splinters etc. The distance to beach entrance is further than stated and there is no public access to sound near the property. I would not recommend this property or rental company.

Well worth the cost

Reviewer Comments: We had decided we would like to return to the Duck area as we had visited three years before. We have stayed in the Outer Banks probably 15 times or more in the last 20 years. This property had everything we needed and it seemed to be several hundred dollars less than other comparable properties. We were a diverse group with my wife and I in our mid 60s, my son, daughter and their spouses in their early 40s, grandsons 21,20,17,and 15; and a grandaughter age 8. Because of this we needed things that appealed to lots of different interests. The pool was great, and believe it or not everyone enjoyed the shuffleboard. The 3rd floor room with futons became a popular hangout for the older boys. The boys also rented bikes to get back and forth to town. The town of Duck is not as busy as other parts of OBX but there were things to do. Our stay was in late May/early June and some of the activities had not started yet. As far as complaints there are only a few minor issues. Two of the bed mattresses were uncomfortable and probably needed replaced. One of the couches in the great room was pretty hard. Some minor outdoor maintenance issues like spot painting, gate hinges could use some attention (just like my home) but I am really searching hard to identify problems. We have stayed in more upscale houses, and we also paid more money. Overall I think we got a lot of house for the money. It was roomy and had many features.

House okay, Beach Realty could use some improvement

At check in there was an issue because my brother and his wife arrived before me. They didn't want to give them the keys because he was only 24. On the website it says that if I wasn't there you can designate someone 24 or older to receive the keys for you. The pool got dirty because it stormed. When we called and asked for service they implied we got sand in it,but they sent someone out anyway. The pool cleaning guy was the most pleasant of anyone that we spoke to about the house. He told us the concrete was angled wrong so when it rains everything drains into the pool. They also came to our house to check up on us, which I thought was very odd. My husband said I was sleeping and they insisted they talk to me. They wanted to verify that our group was a family. I think they didn't believe that our interracial family members were related! I would have been happier with the house if Beach Realty would have been more pleasant to work with. I would recommend the house to others if they changed realty companies. The house did have a good layout and location to the beach, but could use some updates. The pool, hot tub, and pool table were nice amenities.

Reviewer Comments: this is a nice home but it is in need of some TLC when compared to other properties that we have rented, deck space is limited, with no usable covered deck spaces, which would have been nice during our stay (tropical storm Bonnie) the interior is nice and furnishings are ok, floor plan is a little goofy but manageable. the pool is nice however there was no maintainance done during our stay and pool sure could have used a good vacuuming thanks to the storm. Orevall this property didn't rate well with us, after 5 or vacations thru beach reality this was not the best bang for the buck... the location is not bad, its within a short walk to the beach, though the views are nothing to brag about.I would not rent this property again, while it did meet our needs, we have rented other that were better.

Bike Week Vacation

Fabulous Two Weeks

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We absolutely loved the Sailfish and we will be back. We have rented for past six years now and by far, Beach Realty was the best. The property was cleaned and well maintained. We did however need to suggest they consolidate the maintenance visits to one day per week and call before the visit, as we had quiet a few people coming and going the first week. However, Beach Realty was more than accommodating to help us resolve that issue expeditiously. The kids loved the pool table, the shuffle board, the horse shoes, the basketball net, and of course, the pool. We had some brutal days of sun and heat so we were so happy to have the shaded areas to recreate. We recommend the Sailfish and Beach Realty highly.

I had to clean the outside of the house myself due to all the spider webs and spiders, down right creepy. Never encountered this problem in other trips to the outer banks with other rental properties. The house has potential but needs to be power washed. The walk to the beach was a little long for me but was good exercise.

Big house with huge bug problems........

I have never seen so many bugs in one place. When we arrived, the lawn and weeds were severely overgrown and it honestly looked as if no one had been there for weeks. We immediately called the office and someone was sent the next day to spray for bugs but it still didn't help. The amenities in the house are great but I wouldn't recommend staying here until the issues I mentioned are resolved.

Wonderful Stay in Duck at The Sailfish

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We recently rented The Sailfish through Beach Realty. This was not our first time on the Outer Banks (previously stayed in Nags Head and Rodanthe) but it was our first time in Duck and our first time with Beach Realty. First off, we loved Duck. It is a quaint, quiet town -- not a ton of commercial attractions, but instead a wonderful well-laid out town. Being a bit off-season (i.e., prior to Memorial Day), the town was not crowded and traffic was light. The house was wonderful. It was clean and probably had the most well-stocked kitchen that I have ever encountered in a rental home. There are no worries here -- if you want to cook to save a bit of money, you have everything at your fingertips (i.e., ever imaginable pot and pan, crock pot, toaster, cheese grater, measuring cups, baking sheets, muffin pans, etc.) -- I'm a huge foodie and they had more stuff than even I do. The beds were comfortable and everything listed in the description was accurate. The only thing I was unable to locate was the playstation and the dartboard (but I could have missed them). Location was perfect -- you can see the Sound from the decks and the ocean is a short walk up the street.We loved the decks and the pool area -- the decks could do with a bit of updating as there were some loose nails and splinters, but nothing major. The house is pet-friendly and we brought our two Boston Terriers. You could not even tell that there had ever been another dog in the house and the furniture and carpeting was in good shape. The furnishings in the main part of the house are a bit dated, but very comfortable.Dealing with Beach Realty was a pleasure -- they were very responsive and answered all questions. Check-in was a breeze (we left before they opened on Sunday morning) but we stopped in during the week to pre-reserve the house for next year and they were very professional and instantly e-mailed us a receipt for the deposit. Nice house

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Nice house, lots of room, plenty of dishes and great open Kitchen. Electronics, TV, were not the best. Good internet system.

Week in Outer Banks 8-2/9-15

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Roomy house, plenty of room for our whole party. Pool was nice addition.Property was full of ants and spiders. Child-sized brooms, also vacuum didn't work.

Nice space - Could use some TLC

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our week was wonderful in that the weather was fabulous and our house had plenty of space. It was a perfect location as well with a short walk to the beach and access to the main road and the trail through Duck. However, we found the home not as clean as we would have expected (dead bugs literally hanging above the stove) and with a little TLC, the place could be so much more comfortable and accommodating. It lacked towel hooks in the bathrooms and there was no can opener in the entire place for example. We did buy a can opener and we were kind enough to donate it to future vacationers.

Sailfish paradise

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: older but beautiful home. The set up is perfect for a couple of families. Kitchen nicely stocked with everything you could need including plenty of utensils. Any problems were addressed immediately. All air filters desperately need replaced. Great stay overall!

A week in Duck

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great time at The Sailfish. The house was spacious enough for all of us and the big great room on the main floor was great for everyone to be together. The only issue we had was there was a storm and that storm made the pool very dirty which was a downer. The rental agency got it taken care of though. One other thing to note is that all the bathrooms require you to walk in a bedroom for use. This was not an issue for us as we were close family but was a little strange of a layout. The house is great location, close to everything and a short walk to the sound or the ocean.
