Great location

The property is what says it is. You do have to bring your own linens. Great location and the service desk of the property management group you rent from was kind when I voiced any concerns.

Great little home for a week on the beach

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our 2nd year in this house. The beach, just steps away, is fantastic. This house has everything you need (except a washer / dryer - that would be awesome.) It's a no-fuss, on the sand, little bunker that's perfect for a small group. It's hard to find houses for 2 - 4 people near the beach, and this fits the bill.Sadly, upon arriving at the home, I had to do a lot of cleaning. I had to clean the fan, shower, toilet, and bedroom. It wasn't swept (I had to dump the vacuum twice), the tub had hair and sand, the coffee maker had moldy coffee. The carport had lots of trash. The furniture felt dirty and we covered it with sheets. This really is a great place, and should be cleaned as such.Overall, we'll be back and just hope the cleaning crew does a better job.Because of the condition of the furniture and lack of cleaning, I would hesitate to recommend this house to a friend - especially if they were first time OBXers. I'm afraid it would turn them off.

Would stay again; rental is not for everyone

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It’s an original “salt box,” style home. The negative: Upon arriving, the carport was full of sand and when we reached to grab a chair to sit outside, all but one in the stack were cracked. The outside shower would have been useful since this house only has one bathroom, however, you would need a shovel and hedge clippers to clear out the sand piled in and foliage growing inside. The inside was not cleaned very well, but we were able to make do. The worst part was the trash under the beds from previous guests. Again, this is on the cleaners and not the house itself. The kitchen is not something we cooked in, as it had a small older stove/oven. The AC units do not keep up, however we are in a significant heat wave right now here. Also, there’s a clothes line, but no washer or dryer.The positives: We would stay again. We had a great time and it’s the perfect no frills place to hang with friends and family. Maybe we just had a cleaning crew that was tired. Cleaning beach houses is hard work. I’m somewhat local and have done it myself. The location is great. It’s a quiet street. It’s a nostalgic type of house for old beach house lovers. Beautiful wood inside and a coziness to it.

Reviewer Comments: I stayed at a location in the Outer Banks, NC and I have to say it was an AWFUL experience. The house was INFESTED with roaches, spiders, and ants when we got there. The rental office workers did close to nothing and only once was a pest control worker there to spray. We had ongoing problems and the company did NOTHING. We ended up leaving early and had one guest that stayed to return the key. The house itself had major issues, the floors in the bathroom weren’t even nailed/secured down, all the doors were rusted to the point that you had to be careful not to grab the knob or your hand would be cut (like mine). The kitchen floors were water damaged, stained, and coming up at the edges. Nonetheless, the living room and bedrooms were fine and looked exactly like the pictures.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Checked into the home 04:30pm 08-19. Kitchen was still dirty, food under the stove hood, in the sink. I didn't mention this to management as sometimes cleaners get behind and things get missed. HOWEVER the Master BR has no 1 but 5 YES 5 air conditioners, of which on night 2, one of the 2 large ones quit. Called mgmt. asked if it was okay to use a window unit, they said yes. NOT OKAY, the power breaker kept tripping. We called mgmt, they said they were "Reporting it to Maintenance"...A home burned up and lives were recently lost due to a fire in Kill Devil Hills in a rental home, we weren't staying. Checked into a Motel for the rest of the 5 days of our week. Asked for a 450.00 refund, as we stayed 2 days, were offered $150 by the owner?? When i said no, they recinded that offer with no counter. NUMEROUS CODE VIOLATIONS in this house, should have taken prior reviews seriously but gave the benefit. OUR mistake. Building Inspector and Code Enforcement officer have been contacted.

Great stay in a nice little house on the beach

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: All in all, this little place had everything needed for 3 adults. One of our priorities was easy walk to the beach; this fit the bill 100%.You need to pick up & drop off physical keys from the rental office, about a half hour away from the house. The office is close to the Wright Memorial Bridge, which may alter your route.We used 2 of 3 bedrooms. The front bedroom w/ king is the old back porch which has been enclosed. It's large with two chairs, TV, king bed, dresser, and 2 standing a/c units. Kitchen was small but useable. We used stovetop, fridge, microwave, & coffee maker, all in good working order. The house comes with a good supply of plates, glasses, silverware, cooking utensils, pots, pans, and some glass mixing bowls. There is a can and wine opener.There are no linens in the house at all. The shower is very nice. Note it's quite a step in & out of the tub - larger than normal. All water and plumbing worked just fine. The tv & wifi worked great.There are 3 stand alone a/c units in the house: 2 in the main bedroom and 1 in the living area. The other 2 bedrooms each have their own window unit. If you don't like white noise, this place may not be for you. It didn't bother us, but note the house is somewhat loud with 5 air conditioners constantly running.There's no washer / dryer. This is the only reason we didn't immediately book this house again. We travel light & like to do laundry to cut down on packing. We will still consider this house when looking for next summer, but a similar place with a washer / dryer would win out for us.The outdoor shower is nice. There's a shower head and a hose for getting sand off. We used the little charcoal grill with no problems.The shining star of this stay was the location. S Nags Head is perfect for getting around. The beach is gorgeous. If you're looking for a no-frills beach stay, this is a great place. Carolina Shores is friendly and great to work with. We'

The house is old and you can tell the owners have not done much work to keep it up. The house cleaners that go in behind the renters did nothing before we got there. We cleaned it up in order to stay because of shortage of reasonable rentals. Was a perfect size for us. Would love to own one that size. No steps to climb. The air condtion is not efficient. Never got under 78. They are not maintained properly. Owner should invest in central. No washer/dryer. Laundry mat very expensive. The living room furniture was nasty.

The picture on website must be from when the house was built The doors are rusted/ yes salt water rust things need to replace doors/knobs. Floors nasty inside. Location is Awesome, Foot Steps to Beach

Location is awesome. Private Beach Access just foot steps away. Very nice small “alley” neighborhood with 5-6 houses, can not ask for a better location, I would consider it “shared” beach front. Would be a great place for multiple families to rent houses beside each other for sure, The small window air conditioners struggled to keep the unit cool, and needs a larger BTU AC in living room, if you kept doors closed bedrooms would cool easily, living room stayed around 75 to 79 degrees with all ACs on and bedroom doors open. The front door needs painting as the rust looked terrible, and the rear door looked to be rusted shut. ( did not try to open that one ) Outside shower had to be cleaned of trash from previous guest, and yard itself had trash that had to be picked up, I would totally stay here again, as the price is unbeatable but would also pay more to stay at same property if they upgraded stuff like the carpet to a floating floor, vinyl etc.. as it would not be so dingy feeling. Overall place just needs some basic aesthetic touch ups, some routine maintenance and repairs, and updating. If location is most important, this place is awesome, if you are going to hang out mostly inside, I wouldn’t recommend.

This little house was perfect! It had everything we needed to enjoy our time at the beach for a great price. No frills or unused amenities. We had a great stay and would recommend it to any group of 6 or less on a budget!

Nice older place

For the price it was a good deal. Everything worked and was clean. Saw bad reviews but found them to be inaccurate. I think people expect to get the same house that they expect for twice as much. Expect a 900 a week house for 900 a week. Location is just accross the dune from the beach. Walking distance from pier with resturant and bar. Close to outlet mall food lion and independent shops and restaurants. Very few chains. Prices of the restuarants and stores comparable to home unlike Myrtle Beach and Charleston.

Knock it Down!!

The company who manages this property should dump it! I will never rent from them again simply because the property was such a nightmare. Dark, moldy, falling apart, hot, outdated. The rental company lists its name as Sea Shelter. The actual name attached to the cottage is Sea Bunker and that’s what it looks like. I don’t know when the photo shown was taken, perhaps it was photo shopped, but that is Not what it looks like. Faded, pealing paint, rust running from the nails, torn screens, roaches and spiders!!!

Renter be cautious

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a great location but I called the office after reading some older reviews and was assured things had been addressed. Some were. We didn’t see bugs but the flies at this location were crazy (not CSR problem but an issue trying to eat because there isn’t enough space to eat together inside). The homeowner is not interested in keeping this in family friendly condition. Our grandson was cut on a rusting door. The AC is room by room, main one needs replaced. The appearance of clean was there but we found molding Cheetos under the bed. Linens were clean but had to be rented. Not so much as a K hand towel is there. Or pot holders! This is probably fine for college kids, think Frat house. It is steps to the beach and FatBoyz Ice Cream is up the road and delicious! If I figure out how to post pics of the rusty doors and exterior that really no longer looks like the picture, stained furniture and beds as well, I will. The check in process is ridiculous. You have to go to the rental office to get a key. I own a cleaning company in a mountain resort and clean multi-million dollar homes and they all have exterior lock boxes. This should be a standard. Every renter was at the office at the same time trying to get keys and we were parked on the side of the road causing a dangerous situation on 158. This also meant that although we came in on the S end we had to travel 20 miles N to get a key AND then we had to go 20 miles N to rerun the key and rented beach towels. Sue and Brenda were good about quickly responding to me but communication could have been better. I had a question about check in and was referred to “per your signed rental agreement”. Well I didn’t print it off and bring it and phone service was iffy so getting my email up was iffy. A quick “It’s almost time to check-in to your vacation rental. Here are some reminders about check-in” email would have been wonderful. A company dropped in to replace the

No Frills - Yet Solid Good Experience

What you see is what you get. The one-level beach cottage is simple, sufficient and provides readily accessibility to the beach. The cottage was clean. The AC worked in all rooms, and the amenities were basic yet adequate. I was appreciative for the basic accomadations and ability to walk over the dunes to the beach.

For what we needed it for, it was perfect

We had family that rented a big house two doors down. So basically we just needed somewhere clean and close by to sleep in. This was perfect, especially when you factor in the price.

The "window" above the bed in the king room and the "window" next to the bed in the queen room are THE SAME WINDOW! Very dirty smell all through the house. The blinds and air conditioners all caked with dust. The king room has 3 walls of Windows and no curtains just dirty blinds it looks like it was the sun porch at some point.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The beach bunker "sea shelter" has 2 positives: location and price. Otherwise, I would not recommend. We arrived to a house with the door wide open and grasshoppers all over inside. The place smelled of mold/urine and was not cleaned. The couch and cushioned chairs all had stains on them and the carpet is long overdue for a replacement. It felt like the bunker had been flooded on a few occasions. The bathroom was decent. In order to cool the house (and remove the moisture smell) you have to run 6 portable AC units. Very loud. Also the exterior could use a power washing and a paint job. Again, the location and price are great.....

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: One house from the beach! The pier was within walking distance for fishing & eating. The property is older but the price reflects that. A/c was window units so they were a little loud but they pumped out the cold air! Property management company was available whenever I needed them and very responsive and accommodating. The only somewhat negative thing I can say is the bathroom needs to be cut down about an inch at the bottom because it rubs and is loud and wakes up people when I use it but that's a very minor detail. Overall we were quite happy with the property.

Great location / Condition was marginal

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Had a great time and the rental was 100 feet from the beach in a quiet location. The condition of the house left a bit to be desired. It was not particularly clean and the sink,leather couch and carpet should be replaced. Small fixes like new faucet aerators in the outside shower and bathroom and clean fabric couch cushions would have made the stay more pleasant. Overall a good deal and decent place in a great location.

Don't have high expectations, the bathroom is in bad condition, the carpet is really old, there was lot of dust on the screen covers. It was very affordable and walking distance to the beach..
