This is where being a host becomes difficult,.... is when you must deal with dishonest & filthy guests. My wife and I have genuinely enjoyed hosting and sharing our homes in Taos. In disbelief, it brings down the whole experience to have to be here defending our host status under false pretenses. Jay and his group left food and garbage strewn about the home. There were un-cleaned drink spills, and a giant bacon grease spill that permanently stained our kitchen counter. There looked like evidence of a party... streamers, and popped balloons still out, and shot glasses shaped like men's privates. (as a gift?). We asked to be compensated for 3 additional hours of cleaning., as this is what we had to pay. This is not outrageous when you would consider how the home was left. Jay did not "do any dishes". The home "WAS NOT TIDY". It was shocking to read those sentences in his review. Based upon the way the home was left, and Jay's refusal to reasonably dialogue about the home's condition, we would clearly use all resources available to us to gain some clarity to help settle the situation amicably. We DO NOT invade privacy. But there was an underlying tone in Jay's outrage, and that was he was not being forthright, or reasonable. Jay's guest reservation was for 6 guests. Jay knew full well additional guest's get billed, as per VRBO. We used the doorbell camera footage, and counted 7 guests. When we asked Jay about this, he did not respond, and went straight to leaving a 1-star review. Synopsis: when asked to respectfully and honestly settle this matter, Jay got outraged,.... prematurely & unnecessarily. The initial inquiry was delivered with respect, but the responses were shocking. It was a level of arrogance and immature behavior I've yet to encounter from any guest. Sadly, Jay is not honest, and instead of owning their behavior and lies, he has taken to the review platform obviously to deflect. I would never allow this guest in any of our properties. All in all, anyone reading this review should know we asked to be compensated for additional cleaning, because we provide and extra clean home. We have regulations on the number of guests to help maintain wear and tear. And yet, we do expect to have open and transparent communications with our guests. This is all in the interest of providing a beautiful experience when visiting Taos and our homes.
