Pet-friendly cottage with tiki bar 15-min walk from beach

Cheeky Tiki is a destination within your perfect beach vacation. This charming beach bungalow offers 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a wrap around porch, and a fenced backyard with a custom tiki bar for post-beach leisure and entertaining. Our home is a great getaway for family, friends, and your dog(s).

Nestled in the heart of OKI, recently named North Carolina’s best-kept secret by Travel + Leisure, it is a 10-minute walk to the beach and a minutes drive to restaurants, bars and grocery stores.

The space
The Cheeky Tiki is nestled on 9th street, with beach access directly over the scenic intercoastal walkway.

Our Bungalow boasts 4 queen beds and 1 king bed across 3 rooms, including custom built in bunk beds the kids (and adults) will be sure to love. Our open concept living room, dining and kitchen allows for seamless entertaining and family time. Our kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, dishware and serving platters to make meals-in easy and convenient.

Enjoy coffee on our wraparound front porch, equipped with a gate for ease of mind with dogs and young children. A fully covered screened porch towards the back of the house leads you out to your fully fenced backyard.

The backyard boasts covered outdoor seating with a fire pit, a grill area, outdoor games including corn hole and a custom horse shoe pit, and a custom tiki bar––with a suspended TV, pool table, and fitness equipment.

Kayaks, beach towels, and beach chairs are also available.

Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire home minus an owner’s closet.

We have left a manual with house rules inside, and to help make your stay extra special, we have curated notes from our experiences on OKI. Please read through it and let us know if you have any questions.

Be sure to stay up-to-date on the weather for your stay. We require all guests to leave our bungalow if the county declares an evacuation, such as for a hurricane. Also, please be aware of rip current conditions before swimming in the ocean. Our bungalow is located in a tropical environment.

Please let us know if you have any questions about our house rules or environment. Accidents happen - if something breaks during your stay, let us know immediately.

We had a beautiful stay here at the Cheeky Tiki! The home is just a short walk or bike ride away. Lots of entertain in the backyard as well as a wagon and boogie boards in the shed. Lovely quilts and all the comforts of home.

Beach getaway

Visited Oak Island for the first time with my wife, daughter and our Pomeranians Riley and Kody. Found the Cheeky Tiki on Vrbo. The home is beautiful and well kept. The location was perfect with just a short walk to the beach, a fully fenced yard for our pups and excellent household amenities. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely do it again.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Cheeky Tiki as it was in a great location to get to the beach. We were a little disappointed by the cleanliness of the property considering the large cleaning fee; we found trash of previous guests under furniture, the pillows had stains on them, and some of the comforters had dirt on them. Additionally, for such a large cleaning fee I would not expect the guest to have to make all the beds at check in and strip them at check out. We enjoyed the beachy vibe of the house and felt it was spacious enough for our group. The kitchen is well sized and there are plenty of seating options for everyone.

Very well equipped with all your vacation needs. The beds were wonderful. Beautifully decorated. Plenty of things to keep the kids occupied and busy! Great outdoor space to enjoy with your fur babies!! Communication with host was top notch!!! We had an amazing time

Thanksgiving retreat

The Cheeky Tiki gave our family opportunity to spend Thanksgiving together with our dogs. Upon entering it was clear how clean everything was. The layout worked well for us. Each bedroom had pleanty of charging stations and screens. My son was able to work and zoom while the rest of us socialized. He was not interrupted by our merriment. Thanksgiving dinner was easily cooked in the modern spacious kitchen. We spread out on the welcoming farm table. The table became family central each night to play board and card games. When we were not at the table we were in the yard with our dogs. Multiple games to choose from or sit by the fire pit. Many walks with the dog were taken to the beach. General consensus was not to do much exploring or looking for restaurants. We took turns cooking and enjoying our comfortable retreat. Great time was had by all.

Better not the best experience

I’m glad that the property manager was able to accommodate us little early as requested. i’m so thankful for this. And when we check in the process is so smooth and the outside location is cool with a hammock. When I enter into the house we sense some mold odor near the sofa by evening probably around 6 or 6:30pm that odor. Then I have gone to backyard eagerly for the Grill they have listed in the amenities. The grill was super nasty and all my grill plans got collapsed and the backyard sofa seats were too dirty with some stains on it. This made the entire crew felt bad. Most Importantly AC controller is not showing the exact room temperature and in the evening we felt like its not working at all and I lowered the temperature and still the digital meter showed wrong temperature. This made things even worse the temperature was super cool in the midnight which made us uncomfortable to sleep. Overall experience, All I can say is it could have been a better experience with the grill, backyard seatings and the AC control unit should be fixed as soon as possible. My opinion it’s not worth for 700 per night with all these flaws. I appreciate the property manager. Thanks.

We love this quiet neighborhood; it offers quiet mornings on the front porch, walks on East Yacht Drive, and a short walk to the beach across the intercoastal walkway (located conveniently right on 9th Street).

We are within 10 minutes of the nearest grocery stores (Lowes, Publix, Food Lion), 15 minutes from most dining on the island, and about 20 from Southport.
