This is a historic mansion which sits on a bluff above the Illinois river. There are views of the Fox river dumping into the Illinois, the park below and the skyline of Ottawa.The whole group will be comfortable in this spacious and unique space.

Larry was an excellent host. The house itself is massive and perfect for our group of 7, as each got their own room. The location sits over the river which provides endless views. The house was very clean and each room is set up to be its own hotel room (mini fridge and bathrooms). Hope to be back, if Larry has us, as this was a perfect fit and checked every box.

You have to see this home! It’s is beyond the description. We were in awe the minute we stepped inside! A very nice kitchen and oh that butler pantry! The dining room the wall paper and original woodwork and doors!We were in the area for a convention and needed a large place we could stay as a group and have our board meeting. Larry was a wonderful host met us at the property and gave us a tour as well as a history of this amazing home. You can tell how much he cares about the house. It was clean and Soo many bathrooms and beds. And then there’s the porch over looking the river! It was just one wonderful surprise after the other. If I had family closer by I would rent it for the holidays so we could all stay together. We were beyond a 10 in satisfaction for our stay.

This is a beautiful home where our family comes together for Christmas. We are all able to have our own room and there are plenty of bathrooms. The dining room is large enough for all 20 of us to sit together and Larry was great to set it all up for us.

Amazing home restored lovingly with modern conveniences. The place is enormous with plenty of bathrooms And sleeping areas even for our group of 10! Kitchen was well appointed and the back porch was lovely with a view of the river. Will come back!

Great place! Larry gave us a wonderful tour and history of this amazing home! So much beautiful woodwork and craftsmanship that has been preserved and restored over the years! Quiet, view of the river, close to downtown with lots of food options.Special thanks to Larry for sharing such a wonderful home!

The house is a local historical home. When you stay here you will feel a wonderful sense of a period in time wrapped in the necessities of today. The host understands what this house represents to the Community and they have provided a cozy, family oriented atmosphere. We left with wonderful memories, both of Cora J Pope and what she stood for as well as new family memories and a desire to visit again.

Awesome mini vacation

Everyone in our family really enjoyed this house, we all had extra space to do our things. So many bathrooms , nice kitchen and plenty of dining space. We also enjoy the beautiful view of the Illinois River while having our cookout or at night during bonfires. We’ll definitely come back to this gorgeous home!

A unique home with many great touches

The house itself is gorgeous. It sits very close to a major thoroughfare and busy bridge. There can be much road noise at times. Rooms and bathrooms are great.

40th Anniversary Family Gathering

The Pope house is one of the most enjoyable properties that I have ever stayed at. Each room is appointed with beautifully crafted period furniture that makes you feel like you've stepped back into the 1900's - yet AC and wifi in all rooms like the 2020's. A beautiful and peaceful view of the Illinois River is seen from the porch. Plenty of spaces for gathering, cooking, eating, or taking time to yourself. I highly recommend this property and look forward to booking another stay.

Lovely Home

The Cora J Pope Home was was lovely. Larry took great care in adding personal touches to make it feel like a home. He responded to all our requests quickly and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. There was lots of space to gather as a family and the deck overlooking the river was a perfect spot for relaxing!

Larry was helpful, friendly, and responsive. He was kind enough to offer a guided tour of the property upon our arrival. House is beautiful and full of history; the library has binders with information about the house and original owners that I highly recommend perousing. Neighborhood is quiet and safe. Property is within walking distance of a beautiful river park and downtown Ottawa. I highly recommend visiting and plan to stay again.

It was a wonderful stay in the banks of the river Illinois,which give a nice atmosphere and calm. The house is well arranged with all the amenities. Larry ,the property owner,very nice, he explained about the history of house and gave us a nice house tour. overall its worth it for a vacation with a group of people.
