Wonderful Family Beach Trip

We had a great weeklong stay at 1 Curlew to celebrate our parent’s 50th wedding anniversary! The house was great for 8 adults and 7 kids. So much space and plenty to do. The location can’t be beat! You can walk to the beach and Coligny. The house is clean and well maintained and we had no issues! I hope we can come back!

Great house and location for a family holiday

We had four generations gathered for Thanksgiving and this house was perfect! Plenty of room for everyone and lots of seating for meals. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels provided. The kitchen has every pan and tool you could need! It’s a short walk to the beach or to Coligny shopping and restaurants. The bikes and beach gear were so nice to have.

We still enjoy the home. We have been to this home with our children as they were growing up, multiple times. The home functions perfectly for our family. As adults now, still is wonderful. Location is great. We will be back.

Fantastic!!!

We don’t usually do reviews, but felt like this one was a must! This property absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had 8 of us total, spent a week here with 6 kids (Ages 21-26). The property was clean, spacious and literally had everything we could possibly need. The location could not be any better! Waking distance to the Coligny Plaza shops, restaurants and grocery store. Very short walk down to the beach which was pleasantly just far enough down away from the very busy public beach. Being able to fit all 3 cars in the garage and out of the sun was fantastic. The elevator was a pleasant bonus with moving bags up and down. I’m not sure I can say enough good things about this place. We will 100% come back here again.Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Family Gathering

Very nice house. Pool was small but kids loved it. Pool deck was nice. House was well equipped with bikes and beach items. Location was excellent and the neighborhood and street were nice. House was user friendly. A few small negatives: toaster needs replacing; oven was unpredictable; one master BR night table lamp didn’t work; the ice and water dispenser on the fridge needed cleaning. Otherwise I would have given a five star overall review.

Great family vacation

1 Curlew was excellent. It was spacious enough that our family of 14 never felt cramped. The pool is a bit small, but that didn't stop us from enjoying it, especially the grandsons! The garage was absolutely loaded with beach things, so you may not need to rent or bring anything. There were 2 beach carts, 2 umbrellas, 5-6 beach chairs, at least 6 boogie boards and loads of sand toys. The downstairs A/C stopped working one evening due to a clogged drain line. A call to the property manager was quickly returned and an HVAC company was out within 3 hours to get the unit back up and running. Great service!

Great location

Overall this is a nice house with a great location close to Coligny Plaza and within easy walking distance to the beach. The house was well stocked with beach toys, bikes, cornhole, and a membership to play tennis at Van der Meer everyday for an hour. The kitchen was overall well stocked (although we did discover there were no oven mitts or pot holders the first night when we went to pull a pizza out of the oven!). It has a gas grill on the porch that worked well. There were a few things that kept it from getting 5 stars. First the listing on VRBO stated that an Xbox was available. Apparently a previous game room had been re-done to make a 5th bedroom and the XBox was gone. I realize thats not the reason you go to the beach, but for my kids it was pretty disappointing as vacation is one of the only times we let them play video games in the evenings. Secondly, the pool is quite small. We sort of figured this would be the case based on the pictures. But for a house of this size and price, it was disappointing to have a pool so small the kids couldn't really swim in it. Finally, we found three roaches on the second floor during our stay, which also left kind of a bad feeling about the house. The location is great and the house is overall nice. I think we would probably stay here again.

The perfect place for great memories!

Everything about this property was perfect for our family. Our mom and dad, and two daughters and their families (12 total) were very comfortable. Access to the beach was awesome. Home provided two beach carts which made lugging our stuff much easier. Loved that there was a shower with hot water to rinse off before coming back inside. House is a short distance from Coligny Plaza which was an easy walk or bike ride. The house felt like home. The amenities inside were perfect. Each family had their own space and own private bath. The elevator was a huge help in getting out things to the second and third floors. The kitchen was well equipped and such a nice gathering spot while preparing meals. We were there over Halloween and enjoyed carving pumpkins and even had room to room trick or treating inside the house for our littles. It was so much fun! Many thanks to the owners for sharing this beautiful home. We all loved and enjoyed our time there. Hope to be able to enjoy it again.

More than expected...

Our stay at this house was the best one we've had thus far on Hilton Head, and this was our seventh trip to the island. The house was everything and more than what the descriptions and pictures showed. It was clean, organized, spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. It really felt like a home away from home. The pool and deck area were just the right size for our group of nine. The location was perfect, walking or bike riding distance to the beach and Coligny Mall. We can't say enough about this property and will definitely rent again if we have a large group.

Family Vacation

My husband and I took our children and grandchildren to "The Big Red House" for a Thanksgiving vacation. The weather was beautiful and all of the kids played in the pool, the game room, and the beach. The house was even more beautiful than the pictures. Each family had their own bedroom and bathroom, this helped make the trip a success. If you have several families that need to spread out, this is a fabulous location. You can park the car and not move it until time to go home. We rented bikes, rode to Sea Pines and South Beach. We walked to The Pig for groceries, and enjoyed the restaurants at Coligny. If we take everyone on a family vacation again, this house would be our first choice.

location and clean

been to hilton head a dozen times, cleanest house we have ever stayed in , i arrived later in day by plane and sink in brother in laws bathroom was clogged, he told me within 15 mins man arrived and fixed it, no other issues, adult son in wheel chair and no problems to get him around house and elevator worked perfectly ( we have had problems in past at other houses), pool and deck area online looks small but there actually was plenty of room, love setup of house and location, we barely drove anywhere , easy access to beach, company that handles reservation is A-1, if available and fits schedule would definitely stay again
